Nothing wrong with pastry.

It's all good. I was a little unhappy with Sean Taylor as our pick and then super unhappy with Laron Landry. I just thought no team needs two safeties picked that high.

I remember writing something titled "The problem with pastry" all about it on ES. To some degree, even though it is even more of a passing league I still think of safeties as pastry. Washington needs more meat and veggies than desert. OTOH, with all the big plays we give up, maybe we need light and flakey to top off the meal.

If Daronte Jones sticks around and its the Flores scheme which most indications are it will be -- then the safety is sort of the backfield wizard that helps with the presnap-postsnap disguises and shifts. Harrison Smith was that guy in Minny.

That's Caleb Down's game so he IMO is tailor made for this defense. He's still not my top want at 7, but would dig it if they drafted him.

I liked Kam Curl and thought it was a mistake to let him go. I would not draft a Kam Curl with the seventh pick in a draft. So, saying he's a rich man's Kam Curl just makes me want him less.
Kam Curl was a HUGE part of our defense. He was a pretty sure tackler, enabled our coverages to be successful and understood his assignments and got to the right place.

He wasn’t a guy that really was a hitter or a ball production guy.

He is quiet good.

That is why I used him as a comparison for Downs. Downs isn’t a big ball production guy. He doesn’t take in picks. But he prevents big plays just for being where he is supposed to be and understanding the scheme.

Downs is a better hitter than Curl, tackles just as well, is a better athlete and despite being a similar style is definitely around the ball more often and making more plays on it and has a larger NFL frame.

They are similar. But they are not the same.

I’d take Downs. I’ve wavered a bit but as we get closer he is a guy I’d be really happy with IF Love and Tate are gone.

He, Styles and Delane fall in that next grouping for me. Actually think all three are better prospects than Tate, but Tate’s McLaurin level possibility, floor, offensive player & position value all scream immediate impact to me.

And as much as I’d love to draft for the future, I don’t think we’re in position to go more developmental.

With all the talk of needing a WR to compliment Terry, wouldn’t Love help in that dept too? Tyreek Hill lead the league in reception yardage in 2023 and was 2nd in 2022. Just saying by taking Love #7, doesn’t mean we are totally ignoring receiving production. I understand eventually you need to replace Terry (maybe as soon as next year), but Love is an elite talent, Tate is not in that category. Love could have a Barkley type effect on this team year one.

Yes. This has been one of my may points on why Love is so beneficial for us.

Many fans aren’t seeing that, though, and see “RB” and only think of running and not blocking and receiving as well.

I honestly don’t understand anyone saying, “RB that early doesn’t make sense”

I’d take Jahmyr Gibbs or Bijan at 7. No questions asked.

Love is a real popular pick with fans, from really all potential teams who might take him, I was listening to someone who knows the Titans brass saying he wonders if that FO caves into their fan lust for Love especially with the new stadium opening.

Very popular pick with this fan base, with some stragglers. He seems though a mixed bag with national-local media -- not in the context of him as a player but the idea of taking a RB early even with their familarity with him being a passing weapon.

Go to Reddit. Lots of fans don’t want Love.

ok.

on twitter, its different, I follow a lot of fans, and Love's a rock star with them. But the few who don't like the idea really really don't like it.

I am not guy who is in favor of drafting RB's high. I formally focus on the strength of the draft which normally goes hand in hand with BPA at positions of value and need to the teams roster.

Due to the team failing at WR to date, if Love falls to 7 even I believe they should take him. Add the mega weapon

If they don't, they better have moved out of the position and received a wealth of draft capital (which I do not believe will be offered)

My guess is the Cowboys are in on Downs or Styles.

#16 #33 and #44 would be my starting point with the Jets.

If they want to move up badly enough, that would be my ask.
