Happy hour starts in 5 minutes
Look, I like to play golf when I'm playing golf. It is not intended as 'exercise' - I get that elsewhere. But having to park and walk, it's still a lot better than not playing golf at all. The funny thing is, my partner that doesn't want to play when it's cart path only could really use the extra steps.

This.

I hated to walk even when I was young and full of energy. I just want to get to the ball, as you said riding in a cart still offers a lot of walking around the greens etc and still decent exercise. But like you said I'm there to play golf, if I want a workout I go to the gym.
 
This is the 11th hole at Indigo Creek in Myrtle Beach. My first alligator and my ball is at my feet with the green right behind me.

I played my first round of 2026 yesterday. Front 9 I struggled making good contact. Driver was good all day - at least in terms of hitting them straight. I didn't miss a fairway yesterday. 2nd shots were sketch for most of the round. It got better as the round progressed and by the last few holes I was playing better.

I hit some great putts yesterday which is the only thing that saved me from an embarrassing score.
 
I'm trying to shorten my backswing this year and instead work on a bigger follow through. I'm hitting more fairways this way and I've increased my distance too.
 
This video is helping me increase swing speed. I try to get in at least 25 of his bucket swings per day. Easy drill for the indoors on carpet.

 
I'm heading out tomorrow, trying to play once a month before it gets too hot. I've had to completely rethink and play the game since I can't torgue like I used to and get 280 plus off the tee. Learning a whole different swing for strategy vs power is not easy mentally, brain says 8 iron, body says 6 now.
 
Played Indigo Creek in Myrtle today and was able to coax the wife into the alligator picture. This is hole 11 and this gator was in the same spot last week. For some reason the wife didn't give me a smile, LOL.

I live on Hilton Head Island. Whenever someone new to the island asks me what they should know about it I say, “If there is any body of water, even just a big puddle, assume there’s a gator in it.”
 
With all the gators I've seen on courses since I moved to Florida there's only been one that I was ever concerned about, mainly because it was a 15 footer with zero fucks and you knew it knew by how it just walked around the course like he owned it. I did once have a alligator snapping turtle come out of the water at me on a course few years back. I'm sure courses near the everglades might have the pythons swimming about in those waters but I do not know anyone who has encountered one on a course.

When my buddies come from up north there so intrigued by gators amongst other crazy wild life here, maybe I'm just numb to it after living here 23 years now.
 
All I know is, of all the ways to leave this planet, getting snatched by a gator, dragged into the water, and drowning while he death rolls me (then pulls me down and wedges me under a log to tenderize for a week) isn't in my top 10 wish list.

I had a tee shot land about 5 feet from a big gator on a Myrtle Beach trip a few years back. The sick twisted Marine in me wanted to take the shot anyway but I was talked out of it by smarter wiser friends.
 
This was our first gator so pretty cool.

It was not that big and his first move was towards the water. He flinched when we got close and took a quick step towards the edge so it was obvious he was afraid of us. We got our pic and left her alone.

Yes to alligator food being a horrible way to go. My biggest fear is being shark food. Jaws screwed me there.

As I’ve learned living here, gators are mainly scared/wary of full grown humans…that is, unless they’re 12+ ft dinosaurs. They are also pretty much opportunistic hunters. That is why you never walk your dogs near the lagoons here.

Mating season is almost upon us here, so they will be much more active. It really is a sight to see a big bull male lifting himself up and down on the bank of a pond while growling, as an attempt to interest females, as I did while teeing off on the 7th at Oyster Reef a few years back. General rule of thumb is: don’t mess with them, and they won’t mess with you.
 
I bought a new driver, a XXIO brand - they specialize in clubs for lower swing speed players. I took it out for the first time on Saturday. I have not hit so many good driver shots in a long time. I am very happy with it as I estimate I'm getting an extra 20 yds minimum on every drive and just about every tee shot I took was straight as an error (my miss is a fade).

Very impressed with it.
 
Anybody say putters? Think I’ve got 7 in the garage now, since I pared down when moving to the island by getting rid of about a dozen. Bought the Odyssey Jailbird last year, and LOVE it! Might even last 3-5 years in my bag🤷‍♂️
 
I have a 10 year old Taylormade Spyder. I love it and I doubt I will ever buy another putter. It was candy apple red when I bought it but the paint on it quickly started chipping off so one day I took a pocket knife and removed all of the paint. I think the metallic finish just looks cool as hell. I'm a pretty solid putter so I have no reason to replace it.
