And that REALLY matters.

I agree with 4 years, 60M guaranteed, last 2 years voidable. 28M, 30M, 32M, 34M, 124M total contract value, excluding incentives. What I can see from OTC is that his base is 25.5M due this year which has been partially paid for (roughly 19.5M due). Via OTC the franchise tag for 2026 is 28M.

If he doesn't accept? Play out your existing contract and we will franchise you in 2026 (~53M). Take it or leave it deal.

In the above scenario we are overpaying him. That's more than respectable IMO.

Ditto Evans age matters hence he didn't get anywhere near 30 million

The more I keep digesting stuff about Terry, the more i am thinking making him play out his contract, and either let him hit FA or franchise him next year.

I agree, but that's going to make him sour.

Which is why I think they should essentially give him the franchise tag now. Guarantee his 2025 salary, toss in a $10m signing bonus, and then give him $28m for next year fully guaranteed which is the franchise tag amount. Just bite the bullet now for 2026.

You're essentially ending in the same spot, but you guarantee next year this year. It's a risk because if he falls off a cliff, you're stuck with $28m guaranteed for 2026. But if he doesn't, it's the same amount as he would get under the tag.

And you've guaranteed $50-$60m over the next two years.

If he balks at that, I dunno what you do. You can always add non-guaranteed years at the end, or something like, "year 2 of the extension (which would be the 2027 season) becomes fully guaranteed if Terry is on the roster on the third day of the 2027 league year." And make that $30m salary. So IF Terry is still performing at a top 5-10 WR at the end of 2026, he's a lock to stay on the team with a guaranteed contract for 2027. If he drops off, he can go to FA or re-negotiate.

And if he needs is his AAV ego stroked, then toss in 2 more years at $40m per that are not guaranteed which he will never see.

But if he balks at $50-$60m guaranteed over 2 years, man, that's a tough look for my guy.

$28m/year would be an absolute haul for a 30 year old receiver. Especially one who has always been very good but never truly in the top 5 elite category. It would be wild if he refused to take that and ended up completely screwing himself. Which means he'd either 1) Make ~$19.5m this season and goes into FA as a 31 year old receiver - and he probably won't even sniff a $28m/year offer or 2) Make ~$19.5m this season, gets franchised for ~$28m in 2026, then becomes a FA at 32, in which case he'd be lucky as hell to get anything more than a 1 year deal for ~$15m.

I trust Peters to decide when to move from the carrot to the stick, I don’t feel any particular way about the fines, personally. That won’t be the reason why it does or doesn’t happen, and that pressure point alone wouldn’t change whether a deal is possible or not. Just seems preemptively vindictive when they clearly think they can still salvage this.

Also, it’s “brass tacks”. Brass tax gave me a good chuckle though, I imagine it’s the financial cousin of “paying the iron price” from GOT 😂

The 28 a year is what Keim thinks this team is willing to go but he doesn't believe the Terry camp finds it acceptable. He more or less said he thinks if Terry's side would take 28 million the saga is over.

Now i don't know if that means ripping up his current contract whether its 28 million going forward. But apparently, Terry's side aren't a fan of the 28 million number.

So not sure they'd be biting the bullet. If that's the figure they are willing to compromise on. I am gathering biting the bullet would be giving him the 30 million plus he wants and apparently decent size guarantees.

If that's what they think then they are fucking crazy. We are just fans (that want him here) and we can see the dollar versus age view. See my post above, 30m guaranteed over this year and next year... the last two years are voidable

Listened to G&D on the way home and they were talking the Fowler report and how his only real source for this is Terry’s agent. The way they were talking, it sounded like Peters has only offered a minimal raise from his current salary. Which got me thinking, if the team is really at $25M or so - I can see how that would rub Terry the wrong way.

Of course every negotiation starts a ways apart, but $25M and not budging probably has Terry salty af. At some point, he’s going to have to get over it- because it sure doesn’t appear AP will be the first to break.

If I’m AP, I’m putting my maximum offer in front of Terry and saying take it or leave it- or the fines will stack up. But I’m not a GM so…

Judging by Keim who I trust the most.

He didn't give a figure but considering he's made it clear in multiple podcasts he believes they'd go to 28. They are at 25-26 or so as the opening offer.

Terry over 30 million. This part is from other reporters not Keim. But Terry likely around 34.

Keim has hinted that its Terry's side that's the more stubborn, that its the side that won't budge.

And if Terry accepted 28 mllion a year, they likely have a deal.

This team doesn't want to go 30 million plus for Terry apparently.

And the idea that Terry will be 31 at the start of the contract is the theme of the movie from the team's standpoint.

Not sure if this is a correct read, but I think Terry or his agent are close to breaking. The leaks are coming fast and furious now. Either that or they're so pissed off they don't care. If it's the latter, it's one more reason Terry needs to dump his agent. Even if he wants the trade, even if he is the principle driver behind the leaks, and is willing to sit out... his agent is failing to A) get him the contract he desires and B) failing to give him the advice he needs.

Keim is a solid coverage guy, but I doubt he has any more clue regarding what will happen than your above average intellect fan does. The team has never given him breaking news and whatever he says is just a guess.

Your first problem was listening to Grant and Danny. That's your own personal life choice, and you do you, but it's generally not good for ones intellect or knowledge, and typically makes one dumber than when they woke up.

Having said that, I don't think we have really any idea what Peters has offered, because the team hasn't said "boo" about what they are offering, the only information we know is coming from Terry's camp, and I don't know that we can really trust that source.

I'm still trusting Peters to not to come up with a number which is insulting and pays Terry his worth.

I think any kind of trade is off the table because I think AP would want something of value that can help the team this season as well as a decent draft pick packaged with it. I also am pretty much of the opinion that worst comes worst, Terry is playing this season regardless. I don't see him holding out of regular season games and am assuming that the second preseason game is likely the deadline in his head for when either a deal is done or both sides agree to shut it down and let Terry focus on being ready for Week 1 without the extension hanging over his head like a dark cloud. (Still doesn't mean the extension wouldn't happen at some point, but I think Terry still has a desire to be ready to go for the actual season). I also think that unless the front office is severely low-balling their offer, Terry should probably take what is being offered, otherwise there is a good chance he could be tied up for two more seasons anyway via the franchise tag.

That aside, been reading about JD5 without TMC on the field and the way I see it, it's not that JD5's game will take a hit. He is going to ball out regardless. He will get his stats and find ways to make plays because that is what elite QB's do, however that doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt the passing game in the sense of taking away a pivotal piece that opposing defenses have to account for. I actually really like the WR 1-3 room, when they are all healthy & on the field, however I don't think WR 4-6 are the caliber (Jaylin Lane I will credit as an unknown to be fair, and even Luke, although for him specifically, it is wait & see) that can make up for Terry. Reports out of camp for the passing game specifically seem to suggest JD5 is even better than last season but the one area they see struggles in is the downfield passing game because no one seems to be beating coverage the way Terry does. So I think it is incorrect to say Terry not being on the field wouldn't effect things. Now there are other ways to make up for that, like if the run game takes a leap forward after being a whole lot of nothing outside of JD5 last season.

Forgot Keim for the second, who has broken news many times by the way, but his gig is more knowing inside stuff that has eerily been right again and again and again and that's what we got here. I wish there was another reporter on the beat at his level but no one comes close.

But aggregating stuff coming (agree likely most from Terry's side), it seems like there is a good shot the team is around 25 as an opening offer. Of course you don't start with an offer as to where you want to end up. But I get the impression, not just from Keim, that the Terry side has just rode with their desire and hasn't come down.

I know some say that Russini (speaking of someone who actually does get things wrong but not always) comments indicated movement from Terry's side. But even taking her comments she flat out saying "nothing signficantly changed yet."

The interpretation some made about her comments that Terry's side is budging is based on her comments that there are parts of the contract that they want to overlap with Metcalf but it doesn't have to be the exact APY. But we don't know where he was-is has to be as to exact APY. An APY can be manipulated in so many ways. It's possible that its a change from them.

But she is saying its not much of a change within her own comments so even if we want to ride with her alone, I don't think it shows for sure Terry's agent budging. Fowler said the other day, not much movement. And also said the Benglas are closer to a deal with Hendrickson than this team is with terry becuase the hangup with the Benglas isn't APY but guarantees. And he said both the APY and guarantees are equally important to Terry. I don't trust eveything Fowler has said but I do trust its coming from Terry-Terry's agent, that much is clear.

Common sense, dicatates eventually timing will bring some movement. Weeks back someone posted here comments from an agent from another sport, lecturing about how the deal should be done any day, and there is a good chance that the FO and Terry's agent are tangoing together in cahoots partly for appearances and just let the dance play out and it would be resolved in the very near future. So in short we should all relax. That didn't happen.

And as I commented at the time, it didn't jive with the reports out there at that time. But eventually you'd figure its going to unfold and settle of course. You figure one party I gather will blink some and if past is prologue its likely going to happen out of the blue.

I don't get the sense by anyone covering this that Terry and his agent are close to breaking as to the current negotiations. But...

But eventually you figure timing is going to crash on this. We aren't far from game #2 which most see as a pivotal game to get ready for the season.

If Terry's side is going to play this card to the end, i don't see the value of missing games or getting off to a cold start because of lack of practice or risking soft tissue injuries for not being in camp level shape.

If they play this to the end, IMO they don't want to sit out a season at 30 years old or miss games which results in lesser stats or whatever. I get Terry is stubborn about this. But it will be a lose lose for him to play out this card. The team has the leverage, not him.

At some point the FO and coaching staff will also sour on TM, its obviously hurting the teams preparation. I think its already a no brainer that a WR becomes priority #1 heading into next season, these protracted negotiations are not helping Terry one bit. Even without the TM drama I think WR was always going to be a big priority next year due to TMs age anyway.
