Stroud came in at #20 after his stellar rookie season, and JD arguably had a better one, including leading his team to the NFCCG. I wouldn't be surprised to see JD in the top 15.
 
Laremy Tunsil is ranked in the 70's and has been a consistent pro bowler for the past 5 years, leading the league in pressures twice and Terry McLaurin with a high last year of 82 catches and 1096 yards is ranked 20 spots higher at #52? That's a joke.

Those statistics don't put McLaurin anywhere near the top of the heap at WR.

If I want to be critical I can look at the raw production and come to the conclusion that playing with Jayden Daniels at quarterback his 2024 numbers necessarily could have been higher, at least in catches and yards if not in touchdowns (the one category he was among the leaders).

Terry is stuck because while there are teams that show interest they are only going to give Washington a pick in the 60s next year (third round) and that's not going to help this team much in 2025.

Teams like New England and the Jets don't have their own veteran wideout that could be flipped as part of a trade either to give Washington 2025 production.
 
AI says don't give Terry the Big Beautiful Contract. Peak years are an average of the prime years. Decline years measured significant drop off at age 30 or 31 seasons.

Terry signed a contract. Given that he has zero leverage regarding his aspirations for a new contract, he either honors it , or sits out unpaid . It's really that simple; AP understands, as many do. Meanwhile the machine continues to churn, and he will become older and one step closer to oblivion.
 
If AI says it then we know it's wrong. Give Terry everything he wants.

I’m in the tiny minority here, but I’m with Terry from a monetary standpoint. While I agree the team shouldn’t want to pay what he’s asking from a business perspective, he should stand 10 toes down and get every dollar he’s worth.

Just reading some of the comments in this thread are evidence of why a player should never care for fan sentiment, because that sentiment is purely transactional. He’s awesome as long as he does what the fan thinks is best, and that’s nonsense.

More importantly, the organization is also transactional. Players put their bodies and lives, yes lives, and long term health on the line for a TV show that will exploit them at any point for the “brotherhood” of the team. Underperform, you’re cut regardless of contract.

They’re asked to play injured, sick, and leave their families; yet once he’s used up, teams cut players and then it’s onto the next, and fans are back to the nonsense. And spare me the “they signed up to play, and nobody forced them to play football argument,” cry yourself a river, it’s a business.

So yeah, obviously I hope he’s back and does the fairy tale DC Cinderella story thing and retires a Commander; but if he decides his family and personal legacy are more important than a bunch of strangers online and wealthy businessmen then bruh, get yours!

I wouldn’t hesitate either…

the top 100 isn't based on past performance or raw statistics. it's how other players in the league voted. say what you want about how they are wrong, but it's the guys that play with and against these players or watch film on.

The issue lies in that he’s not worth what he thinks he’s worth and the market is saying so. His advanced metrics and age don’t support what he’s looking for. He can ask to be traded all he wants but there has to be a willing partner, that thinks so highly of him they are willing to part with a top asset and a big $ contract.

There’s going to bat for yourself, and there’s whatever this is. He has not handled this well at all, consider the significant leverage the team has with his contract situation and the franchise tag in 2026, being significantly less than what he’s expecting to be paid long term APY.

All this after a trip to the NFC title game, with a QB and team with Super Bowl aspirations. He’s created so much drama, we’ve barely heard from our ROTY QB or other storylines.

He should be the one looking to meet in the middle, but instead shows up to camp with a fake injury, and now demands a trade.

I understand he’s been a consummate pro and an all around great guy for this team, and a bright spot when we were at our worst. But we finally have a legitimate team and QB in the early stages of his development and this is what he’s doing.

I generally side with players, particularly guys I’m find of, but this is too much drama for me.

I don't disagree. But I think Terry is still likely getting bad advice, which could be the lack of advice. If you hire an agent, sure they have to essentially do what you want them to do, but you also have to trust their counsel. If their counsel is "you aren't going to get that, it's not reasonable" and you ignore them, then why have them at all?

His agent needed to set him down very early in the off season and tell him what was reasonable based on his age, his metrics, his comps and his stats. And if Terry said "no, I want $15m more AAV than that, then it's the agent's responsibility to talk him out of insanity. That's how counsel works.

Now, if Terry is just ignoring counsel altogether, that's not great, and there's nothing the agent can do except try their best knowing they will likely fail.

So what should he do? Real question, and take your fan glasses off when you answer.

This IS his play, it’s all he CAN do! He has a point that he is more valuable and productive than DK, it’s not his fault the Steelers overpaid. And he can’t just ignore the data point.

My perspective is purely objective from the player standpoint. Both sides can be right. Terry has to try to get the most he can while he can, and the Commanders want to get the best deal.

So to Canty’s point, get it done! Both sides have to compromise. Commanders have to overpay a little, Terry got to take a little less.

For the team, the organization, and the fans… it’s too important to the rebuild to screw this up.

Idk that this org will want to go the franchise tagging a disgruntled WR route. I think they’ll be inclined to just move on…

The other issue is we have no idea what the WR class will be next year - both FA and draft wise. Projecting out what contract you’ll get after the season is a crap shoot. Sometimes it’s about who else is available more so than what your “value” is.

If no deal is reached and he plays well on his current deal, they'll make a similar offer next year and if he doesn't take it, they'll tag his ass and ask "do you like apples?" (If you don't know the quote, go watch Good Will Hunting.)

The thing is, he is under contract which will pay him $20m this year including bonuses.

So, unlike the last time when he was playing on a rookie deal he couldn't negotiate (that's set by the CBA), he's now playing the final year of an agreement he negotiated and signed. And is paying him $20m.

The thing is, the Commanders WANT Terry to stay. They don't want him to leave. They don't want to trade him. They want him to stay and be happy. And they are already paying him well.

But Terry has to realize he is entering his age 30 season. A 3 year extension will run through his age 33 season. There is no way any team is going to sign him to a contract that a player 2 years younger received, who has some similar attributes. It's just not the way it works.

So Terry has to get what he can get within reason.

Asking for a trade is a move, but it's not his only move. It's also not a terribly good move either. He's not going to get traded. He knows that. There is no reason to trade him.

When you're negotiating, what's REALLY important is to understand YOUR leverage position. If you are not in a good leverage position, don't make outlandish demands. It will come back and bite you in the ass.
