The 2025 Draft Thread

I know it’s a shot in the dark trying to guess at trades, but I wonder if SF is the most likely trade partner for us at 29. Not just the AP connection, but they’ve got a lot of picks, including multiple 3rds/4ths. Not sure about fit, but I could see a few guys motivating them to move up - Campbell, Conerly/Simmons, Emmanwori, or Egbuka/Golden/Burden (at least a few will be gone of course). Might be tough for us to give up the chance to draft one of those guys though…

Hard for me to imagine AP not doing his utmost to gain more picks - lacking a 4th, 5th and 6th is rough, particularly given the amount needs we have and the depth at some of those positions. Adding a top 100ish pick has got to be enticing (I know it is for me anyway!).

Wonder if we can trade down twice to accumulate more picks as teams may want to make a jump in the first for a QB (Dart?) or a highly rated players that falls due to similar ratings. Here is what Tankathon has us along with SF and CLE (for example), who can be potential trade partners if we go that way.

Man, San Fran certainly has the ammo to reload.

There are a lot of these guys out there but 2 RB's that could be nice UDFA borderline draftable are Ohio's Anthony Tyus III & Arkansas's Ja'Quinden Jackson.
 
Yeah, this NFL season was the return of the RB workhorse and it was highlighted by almost 2 historic seasons with Barkley and Henry. I don't see RB being devalued this draft and there should be a decent amount that end up going the first two days of the draft.

Makes me wonder what position group might slide. Hopefully OL like they use to. LB should be good late, too.
 
I hope we look at Bayshul Tuten if he is available. Admittingly I am biased as a VT fan but he played behind miserable OL's during his time at VT. He has the ability for the other YAC, yards after contact as he was hit repeatedly behind the LOS but still would gain yards.

I could definitely see AP trading down more than once in this draft to accumulate picks. Even Cleveland with all of those 6th rounders would intrigue him.

Still wish we could talk SF (or anyone) into trading a pick for a starting 30 year old DT
 
I seriously think we end up with less picks than we do now. Some mocks have the Garrett trade happening now. One I saw yesterday has us swapping 3rds and us giving them 25 and 26 forst rounders. I would be fine with that for one of the best players in football. We are going to need to address T in free agency imo.
 
Trading down to acquire more ammo would be interesting.

My initial thoughts are there is very solid 1st round talent thru roughly 32ish players and a slight drop off from the top 32 guys to the next dozen or so, so unless our board is wildly different from the other big boards out there we would need to expect to eat a small downgrade.

Now depending on how the talent curve for the draft looks that might be worth it. If we take the 49ers for example, our 29 would be roughly worth their 43, 99, and 112.

If you think there are 110ish impact players or more you probably do it. If you think there's only, say, 90, you def don't.

This trade scenario would be a great get for us. Personally, I'd like to see it go down. It would leave us with this: 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6, 7, 7

I may get in trouble for saying this, but except for a few players, we don't even have above average young homegrown players in positions of need (OL (mostly). CB(save for late season trade), WR (Except TM), etc.). Whatever we have had are veterans or short term players. I mean we can work with them as long as we continue to sign above average players. Our deficiencies in talent were masked by excellent play by few players (JD, TM, Wagner, Luvu, etc.) . I hate it but looking at Eagles, it took them years of good drafting to get to where they are today. We have overachieved last year, but I won't be surprised if we have somewhat of a slump in 2025, in terms of W/L. Regardless, I am optimistic we continue to draft well and inject the roster with good, serviceable veterans, like last year.

LOL@talking SF into trading for Allen. Hey you never know. we have a competent GM (finally!) who has made some good deals in short period of time with us. :cool:
 
The more I watch Cam Skattebo, the more I like him. Young man has moxie. Not sure how he will hold up running that hard in the NFL but who am I to doubt him? His balance is great - vision so, so IMO. His comp is Jalen Wright current Dolphin former Volunteer, which I do not agree with. Wright is the more explosive IMO. I also think Wright is a better prospect than Dylan Sampson, who is growing on me though he's not great getting past 1st contact.

Oh you won't get in trouble for saying that. We need talent infused throughout the roster. We need to be able to hit well in FA to do so, then add through good drafting.
 
Just saying, if we scooped up Jalen Royals WR on Day 2, I think I'd be pretty happy. His production was insane. In 20 games for Utah State he had 1914 yards and 21 touchdowns. That is absurd.

Against Boise State, he was phenomenal. 9 catches, 211 yards 2 TDs.


He's got good speed and a lot of instant juice. He was one of the guys who looked great in the 1on1's at the Senior Bowl. 6'0 and 205, so he's Terry McLaurin's size. He's not a downfield burner, but he's another guy who would be hard to tackle.

These two teams will very likely have to consolidate some of these picks. It will be very hard to fit 12 rookies on a roster, especially in SF where the goal is to contend for a Super Bowl.
 
I can't update my prior post, but I am thinking if Dart continues to move up in the Quality QB-deprived draft, we may see some team move into first round to grab him, even before our pick IMHO. I am also sharing some more players of interest around our 2nd Rd pick from Drafttek. Not sure how people feel, compared to their own Big Board but just sharing for comparison.

DT Grant or TE Loveland falling would be nice. If not, looks like we can get a solid OT at 29–Conerly or Simmons. Seems like the upper tier edge rushers aren’t going to fall. Might have to wait until the second round for that and/or address it in free agency.

As for trading down for more picks, I’d be fine with it. But it’s not something we can count on, and I do think we are going to like the selection at 29
