Official Game Thread - Playoffs Week 2 - Commanders @ Lions

Oh man what a weekend of football. My weekend has been super busy so I didn't get to chime in immediately after the game but wow.....the emotions of elation, disbelief, acceptance, and then celebration....what a wonderful feeling!

The fact that the offense was able to muster a running game was huuuuuge. Even after Cosmi went down (rest up for another run next season man). It had the Lions defense unable to full commit to using all their resources on JD5 or a RB on those running downs. JD5 continues to push his potential ceiling higher.

The Defense's performance won't look good on paper, but they did what you absolutely must do if you are going to give up a ton of yards, which is create turnovers, and boy did they ever. I hope my friend's neighbors had the game on because when that Pick 6 happened.....whoooo booooy.

Looking ahead to the....NFCC (omggggg) next week I'll be completely honest, from what I saw today from both the Eagles & Rams, neither opponent looked unbeatable. Neither team looked like a task too tall for JD5 and this team to beat in a huge game. That isn't to say I would take either lightly or that they couldn't beat Washington, but they didn't look any better than how we did absolutely dog-walking Detroit yesterday. I will admit my preference was to play the Rams because I don't want the snow/weather to be able to slow this offense down via all the ridiculous things that can happen when a WR can't plant his foot, or make a cut, or the way the football comes out of the QB's hand etc etc....

Hey everyone, this team is ONE WIN AWAY FROM THE SUPERBOWL! LG!

So a few points this thread is much better than chat. I do like chat but too many folks lack the ability to decipher words in chat

Yesterday i was told so your a dr now when I said the lions DB looked like he broke his arm. Turns out I was right
Yesterday I was told to shut up when I said we would win 3 out of 10 times we play detroit
Yesterday I was told I have a bad attitude when I made comments about the defense giving up 11 yards a rush.
So I left chat and came to this thread.

I remember the 1972 superbowl - was young but my parents had a party for the game.
I really dont get it yes some times i get pissed and say emotional things in chat but the comments yesterday were observations.

I think ill be staying away from chat and posting her from now on. Yesterday almost made me not come back to the site.
I too remember my folks having a 72 party. I remember I made a Go Skins sign and taped it to my window for the world to see my fandom.

About chat I think its wise for ALL to say what you want to say and largely ignore others. Do NOT single anyone out. Or don't read what others say if you can't resist the urge to feel the need to police fellow fans thoughts. In fact, maybe the ability to tag someone to reply could be removed and it would improve the game day chat. It's a GROUP chat. Speak to THE GROUP as a whole. If someone wants to have a 1 on 1 conversation to tell someone theirs emotions are wrong or they shouldn't feel a certain way, miss a few plays and go compose a private message. Compose it to yourself, and rethink why you feel the need to correct a fellow fans feeling IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME.

Stick around man!

To be fair Tom, you have been incredibly negative in chat all season long, almost to the point of detracting from the experience of everyone else. I know you are aware of that. So that may have set you up for some group ridicule. We all need to be better in game day chats and try to keep our emotions under control. For those that struggle, I suggest just stepping away and watch the game on your own. That's what I do when I feel myself wanting to tell a fellow hyperemotional fan to STFU.

I'm not telling anyone how to fan. I understand the more negative/pessimistic amongst us are driven by a rational fear that the team will screw it up and disappoint us. We've all seen that happen over and over. It doesn't make anyone a bad fan. I would just say that it's good to realize that most fans fall in the middle on the 'hope vs. despair' bell curve, and being either excessively homeristic, or over-the-top pessimistic is likely to draw negative attention.

We generally neither moderate the boards heavily nor the chatrooms. But we will start kicking people out of chat who can't play reasonably nice.

Shout out to Bates on his fullback corner route which was a big fat nail in the lions coffin. Even though Gonzo missed the 47 yd FG (which is a near chip shot in a dome on a clean snap) converting that 3rd down helped milk another ~2 minutes off the clock and avoided what would have been a dreaded punt. Maybe we should talk about Gonzo later. And this offseason discuss fully "we should take the 3" mentality ingrained in all long time fans that clearly Quinn and many other coaches have abandoned.

    (4:08 - 4th) (Shotgun) J.Daniels pass deep left to J.Bates to DET 35 for 20 yards (M.Norris).
Fun fact: Rookie QBs in championship games have been aided by their defenses BIG TIME. Burdy Sanchex Flacco Big Ben Shaun King... those QBs all had defenses in the top 3 in Def scoring ranks. Our beloved defense is ranked 18th... Jayden is carrying this team which we all know of course. Still an interesting stat to see.

Prices already coming down. This is the <1k market at the moment

Buddy down in Georgia is going to go with me if they dip to a more reasonable level

At his presser this morning Lion’s HC Dan Campbell said…”Man, credit Washington, they did what they needed to do and they played a good game…For us, when you feel like you need to bring your A game…I think if we bring our B game we got a chance to win that game.”

Started out well, then the backhanded slap in the face.

Translation: I'd give credit to Washington, but they didn't deserve it. We played awful. If we played half as good as we normally would we would have crushed them.

Kinda classless.

I suppose that’s one way to read it.

I read it more “we didn’t show up”/“we didn’t even bring our B game.” Ie: more of a self criticism than taking a shot

Not that it matters anyways we’ve got a game to play.

🤷‍♂️

I have been a bit obsessed about how we ruined just obliterated the Lions fans game day experience.... likely from me finding humor in the entire sections of their fans having the same dejected face amid our jubilation. I love the road win in all sports vs cocky fans. Pictures of which i have NOT been able to locate online anywhere. Single fans, but not entire sections. I facked up and didnt DVR the game.

Back on topic that fateful 2nd quarter, a proper early dagger was the Sainristil INT in the endzone (vs TD to Jameson "Vegas" Williams). So instead of fans being all giddy during halftime... nope it was a kick in the crotch instead as we maintained a double digit lead for them to ponder in the bathroom line.

I didn’t view is as taking a shot, I took it as an unrealistic evaluation of his team’s capabilities.

After you and I talked about my comments I have been actively trying to not be so negative. Last Saturday I don't think anything I said was negative or over the top. I got blasted for saying I thought we could be detroit 3 out of 10 games and got blasted for saying we were giving up 11.7 yards a rush and needed to figure it out. I have been really trying to not be negative and sound like we are broken. Hell I even got blasted for wanting to beat dallas and saying losing to them would make the season not as enjoyable. I will say if I go over the top on something it's emotions coming out and that's it. And if I do that PM me - don't message the whole world targeting me -when I see other similar comments and it fells I am singled out in chat. I just hate being singled out.

I totally get that Tom and agree with you. We can all try not to be aggressive and not go after fellow fans even if we don’t agree with what they are posting. You are not wrong. I would encourage you not to let it run you off and sorry that happened to you.
