Random Commanders Thoughts

To me Lattimore and Newton are two keys to the off season. Internal defensive line can go from a top need to a depth need. CB can go from having to pick an no 1 to a decent no 2.

I'm glad that we aren't playing on Christmas. This team still isn't very good on a short week.
 
Reading an article on Kyle Murray today made me wonder if it isn't a Kingsbury cliff, but a Murray Mirage.

Murry has a career passer rating of 95.7 in weeks 1-9 with 65 TDs and 27 INTS. That falls down to 88.2 QBR in weeks 10-18 with 45 TDs and 28 INTS. His yards/game also drops by about thirty. (Stats gotten from the Washington Post)
 
I see Derrick Henry is about 70 yards away from passing John Riggins for 19th all time rushing yards.

Adding an extra game to the season is going to skew alot of long standing records and diminish past greats.

Sad to see....

Over the past few years, BSJ hasn't been this bad. He's actually had flashes of being okay. Even this year, we thought that while he was being overextended as a number one corner that he could be servicable as a number two. The question I wonder about is how much of his problem is reputational and how much is in his head. If it is mostly mental can he get his mojo/technique back?
 
I think the bar for 'hasn't been bad' has been incredibly low for DBs in Washington for a long time. I think they will move on from St. Juste soon. We have one of the best defensive coaching staffs in the NFL. If they can't get him playing at a starter or solid backup level in a year, I don't see it happening. I think he's a good athlete, not a great one (and it's hard to be an NFL DB if you're just 'good') and I think he lacks the instincts to be a standout cornerback at this level. He seems to have regressed, not improved, this season and that's not a good sign imho. But I'm not a football coach.
 
Yeah, I agree, but I also think his confidence is shot and that's hard at corner. I could be wrong about that, but his play feels a little desperate. Ultimately, you're right. He's never had any "ball" instincts. Never that sixth sense to turn and look for the ball in order to pick it or make a play on it so I think his time here is short. That said, with Lattimore shelved I suspect we will need him at his best for the rest of this season and I wonder if he can return to that. In recent games, he's been more of a liability on the field than a help. At least, I need him out there causing no harm when his number gets called.
 
Part of being a good or great corner is having confidence that can’t ever be shot. You have to be borderline delusional. It’s part of why DB’s on average are so damn annoying.

It's bigger than that though. Riggins was drafted in '71 when the league played a 14-game regular season.

In fact, Riggins would play 7 seasons in a 14-game schedule before the league went to a 16-game season in '78.
 
They're 18 and 25 now.

Man how time flies, can't believe i was a sophomore in high school the last time we won 11 games, crazy.

As we were just about to score in overtime last night I looked over at.my wife and said, its been 84 years and I can still smell the fresh paint.
