Random Commanders Thoughts

I think I may be looking forward to season over season improvement even more than the playoffs. So often, we'd see glimpses of the team come together and then when the next season began we'd look like a squad that had never played together and was starting from zero again. Especially under Rivera, there was no build from season 1 to 2 to 3 to 4. If anything, there was a slide.

If we did get the coaching right and the personnel side right, then we will see a better team next year and that's something I can't say we've really seen in a decade.

This off season is so intriguing. It is nice to have focus on both this season and the off season at the same time. From working 80 hours a week to a retirement schedule it is great to watch players both on the team and college as I wait for the next game.
 
Yeah. Bo Nix is the real deal. And I got laughed about my take 5 QB's from the last draft will end up franchise Qb's...
 
Do we hire Eberflus as a consultant during the playoffs? He knows the NFC North teams well and could be an asset in obtaining the Lombardi.

Maybe he could give kliff kingsbury some advice on how to handle Daniels too.
 
I watched the 1982 NFC Championship Game on YouTube last night. This is still my favorite game of all time because the Redskins stunk for a few years before and we were still trying to prove we belonged, the excitement was as high as it ever was in the area. A few observations:

The Cowboys really were bad for much of the game. Muffed a punt, key penalties and drops, Danny White's punts were terrible before he got knocked out.

It was great to hear Madden and Summerall and they were good for the dramatics. But man they missed so many calls. They were not aware on a Joe Washington launch that ended just short of the goaliine that it wasn't a TD but it was a first down for far too long, didn't know the rule about bringing a kickoff out of the end zone. That sort of thing was happening a lot.

I can't believe the defense played this well when the corners were Vernon Dean and Jarris White.

The game looked surprisingly similar to today's game although they obviously ran it more. I expected it to look slower but that was not apparent to me. But I sure missed having the time and score on the screen at all times, thank you Fox Sports for coming up with that idea.

Edit: Another thing I failed to mention was Mark Mosley, after winning the league's MVP as a kicker, was 1-5 in the playoffs and then he missed his first kick in this game.
Oh and I certainly remember Hogaboom playing really well and getting them back in the game. But he threw 2 picks and was only 14 for 29.

Could easily be our #2 WR. Thoughts?

Dude is a head case who has been shifted to multiple teams and just had his current team suspend him and cut him for quitting on the team. No thanks.

I'd never want somebody on my team that has any history of refusing to play like that.
 
Yeah, the guy quit on his team. No one like that should be on any roster. That’s aside from the fact the guy hasn’t been any good this year.

I can totally understand the giving up on his team reason. But the "not good this year" reason ehhhh. Randy Moss sucked with the Raiders. Im pretty sure he was good after he left them. That might be an all time great but just saying. Just cause someone has a down year with a new team doesn't make him bad. Carolina has major problems at QB and just with their team overall. And Baltimore isn't a great place to go for a WR.

Can honestly say the only acceptable answer to refusing to play is because you have a bad injury that is being neglected (which will almost never happen in the modern era). This isn't a player half-assing cause they are hopeless, he refused to even go in the game, just like the dude from the 49ers that is getting dealt with in the same way.

He isn't just having a down year, that's a personality issue. He may be able to be acquired for a ham sammich, but that ham sammich could have fed somebody that doesn't pout on the bench.

There's this amazing scene in a Sherlock Holmes movie where Dr. Watson has finally had it. He's packed his bags and is almost out the door. Holmes chases his down and says he can't quit and pleads with him to stay, saying how much he needs him. Watson in a fit protests, "Why? I'm always wrong." Without missing a beat Sherlock says, "True, but without you being wrong how am I ever to figure out what's right?"

Maybe Eberflus could fulfill the Dr. Watson role?

Agreed and how crazy is it two players have quit on their team over the past couple weeks. No thank you!

When I hear of these situations I always recall the Antonio Brown exit from the Bucs.

No, but I've heard he and Ein got drunk, and used a Ouija board and a pentagram to conjure up Harpo, Chico, Zeppo, and Groucho. Place smelled like stale cigars and bad jokes for weeks.
 
Today's kickers kick further and more accurately than in years past, but I wonder if it comes at a cost? Is it like the problem we see with modern day pitching where we see far more arm injuries because they're throwing so hard or torquing their arms in a certain way? Is it just us?

I don't know if I've ever seen so many kickers go down or need to be spelled because of injury. You'd think kicker would be the position least likely to get hit by the injury bug because, by and large, kickers don't get hit. Heck, they hardly have to run.
 
Yeah, it does seem like more of them appear to suffer injuries than in years past. I guess one thing that makes a kicker 'prone' to injury is that they are coming in relatively 'cold'. Yes - they can kick into a net but it's not like being out there running around for the whole game getting sweaty and muscles warmed up. Just the general nature of how intermittently kickers are used would seem to make a hammy or quad pull or other injury more likely. Would be interesting to see if injury rates have climbed as kickers are asked to attempt longer and longer kicks?
