Official Game Thread - Week 9 - Commanders @ Giants

Great win today, I would have liked to have won by a little more but I’m not complaining. 7-2 for the first time in nearly 30 years.
 
We need a centralized thread for comms...news, youtubes, tweets, etc...IMO

We used to have auto-populated news forums but no one used them. Most general news/tweets/etc… are posted in the Random Commanders thread unless there is a thread specific to the news (like a roster move).

I'm just happy to be looking forward to watching games again. I still refuse to call them the commanders, but seeing the competency existing on offense is refreshing every time.

The defense just needs to do enough right now. There were several times this game that it really seemed like they were playing it safe though, which felt really odd. The last FG drive, for instance...it does work to play the clock and everything, and maybe was absolutely the right path, but it lacked the killer instinct the team has been showing. The first half was full of killshots, especially the TD to McLaurin at the end of the half.

This next week is going to be interesting to see if anyone gets traded for. Especially if the trade is not for some big name, but a modest priced name that fills in big as we have seen so far from this office. This game showed so much weakness on the backend once Jones started throwing it...that TD between the safeties about drove me nuts. Obviously blown coverage that could cost us in bigger games.

I really don't see a way that doesn't end within 6-7 weeks, besides some major injuries. It's also kind of crazy that it's the first season with no Snyder input.

Mentioned this elsewhere, but on that final game killing drive when they went play action on second down and Daniels executed it for thirty-something yards was great to see. Otherwise, it was a Riggo Drill, but that one pass on a running down sealed the game. It put them in points range and the Giants knew it was over.

Rereading, I think your "playing it safe" had to do with the defensive playcalling. I'd have to go back, but it didn't feel like prevent. I just think our D isn't very good and has never been that good against New York for some reason.
 
It was a 24-10 game until 9 minutes left in the 4th. The defense definitely just let them score twice then the offense didn't go for TDS otherwise the game was a rare NFCE blowout.
 
Also, wasn't Coleman still injured?

If you're talking about before the game, then he was cleared from the concussion which kept him out of the last game.

If you're talking about a dislocated finger, I'm not sure we ever got confirmation when the finger injury happened. But I'm going to assume he played really well through getting that snapped back in place.

Coleman is a tough SOB.

As an aside, I remember a pretty hysterical conversation on Mike and Mike in the morning, when Greeny was interviewing Anthony Munoz. Munoz has a pinky finger which sticks straight out to the side because it was mangled during some game. Munoz basically said, "you play, and then at the end of the game, you check to see what's not working." Greeny said if he had that injury during a game, he would call a press conference during the game to announce his retirement. Which was funny.
 
The NYG still lead the league in sacks despite having zero yesterday vs the Washington o-line.

Offensive as well, not the final drive, but the 2nd to last field goal drive, that ended like this:

In the end, win is a win, and can't really critique a victory that was easily in hand in so many ways. While there is an argument to be made to keep pounding it if it works, 6 straight run plays in the modern NFL seems really conservative.
 
Well, in 1982 Washington beat the Giants on a long Moseley field goal 15-14 when Washington was 6-1 and the Giants were 3-4.

Washington of course went on to win the Super Bowl and the Giants fired their coach at the end of the season.

This NFC East crap has been going on for years. We beat Dallas twice in 1995 when they finished 13-3 and won the Super Bowl.
 
Especially impressive considering that the Giants somehow lead the NFL in sacks.
