Random Commanders Thoughts

The over/under on the game is high because in Pittsburgh and Washington you have two of the top 10 passing attacks in the league with some dynamic play-makers on the outside.

How is that an insult?

If the Redskins win this game I am thinking the score is going to be 33-31 or 34-27.

That's over 50.

I agree on a high over/under.

Gamblers believe the final will be 27-24, Pittsburgh.

Personally, I believe we'll put up 21 pts in the first half alone.

The insult is being an underdog at home against a team missing some great starters.

Not sure how I missed this pic when it actually happened but I did. Just noticed in the awesome slide show happening at the top of our page!

A Redskin at White Hart Lane. Awesome. #Hail #COYS

Big Ben vs out DLine is a major concern.
He could have a field day, literally
.

Don't forget the 'kid' coming from the other side while they're busy 'holding' Kerrigan.

Pittsburgh is a good team. They are routinely a good team. They will be considered a good team until they show the world they are not.

The Redskins are ... not routinely a good team. We have to earn that. Until we do, teams like Pittsburgh will be favored over us. It's not an insult. It's history.

If we want people to start picking us over teams like Pittsburgh, we have to start beating teams like Pittsburgh. It's that simple.

Henry has it exactly right. No one expects us to beat Pittsburgh in a season opener, if ever. Because we never do. The best teams - Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Seattle - they've owned us for years.

When we win a game like this one convincingly, that's a sign we've really turned the corner.

Not sure what convincingly entails but any win going toe to toe with these 'supreme masters of the NFL' should up our stock some I would think. :)

There are some great pieces out from John Keim this morning. This isn't from Keim, and lacks some substance, but the writer ponders the same question I do.

Is Week 1 Redskins vs. Steelers a Super Bowl 51 preview? (Updated) | Redskins Wire

Settle down. We have a lot of progress to show before we start making Super Bowl plans. I know everyone rolls their eyes at Tr1 around here, but he has some very valid concerns.

I'd like to see a running game that doesn't completely blow, as well as a rushing D that doesn't completely blow before we start talking SB, just to name two things.

I think it's been pretty obvious from day 1 that we were headed to a SB in short order.

Aside from his prior track record of success, the most clear, yet least talked about tell was during Gruden's introductory press conference. He said he had received 150 or 250? texts from coaches that wanted to join him in DC.

Whoa! Mike Shanahan likely doesn't have 10 friends on Earth. Let alone 150 texts from coaches wanting to work with him. Look at what Gruden's already done for the career of a TE coach like McVay. Then Callahan and Perry Fewell quickly joined the staff.

When the players love you, and the coaches love coaching for you, winning a championship becomes more important than just cashing a paycheck. That's when the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

I agree with the author. Pitt vs. Washington is my pick this year. I'd put the odds of that exact SB matchup at 70% right now.

Everyone loves playing and coaching for Norv Turner. Doesn't make him a great coach.

Historically, how well-liked a coach is has nothing to do with how successful that coach ultimately becomes.

Eh....no one likes a boss who's an arsehole. With huge NFL salaries and social media these days, that might be more important than ever. Certainly for coaching staffs, if not emotional players too.

Everything I see feels right.

A competent GM with a history of winning. A HC with a history of getting the most out of his players--Dalton, AFL and us last season. They could be Beathard/Gibbs version 2.

A winnable division with other teams in turmoil.

An improved roster.

It feels to me like Wash/Pitt is as likely as any other two teams this year.

I'm feeling it. I agree with the author.

Wash/Pittsburgh it is.

And on a side note, when was the last time that an author even thought of mentioning a Redskins game as a possible prelude to the SB?

It's been a long time. A very, very long time.

It's a good feeling. Enjoy it:)

Every year. What boards do you read? :)

That's not an author. That's a Redskin fan. And optimism springs eternal every offseason.

Look, I admire your optimism, but I do think it's a bit premature to start buying SB tickets. Ask me again in a month.
