the ignorance of your own history is what bothers most native americans, the meme that " indians killed innocent women and children so it was ok to attack their villages" is not only incorrect, but offensive.
If you wish to create a statement for me, and then be offended by it, knock yourself out.
did you know custer was killed because he didnt want to attack the warparties, and made the "tactical decision" to attack the village?
Well, did you know that Old McDonald was a terrible speller?
Contrary to your own opinion of yourself, you're not the only person who realizes that water tends to be wet.
The "innocent women and children" who were killed were actually not that innocent,
Same bullshit excuse I'm sure the soldiers at Wounded Knee used. Bully for you.
in many cases they settled on land that had been promised to the indians, and in many cases they were actually illegally settling on that land. its not morally equivalent to kill illegal settlers who are encroaching on already diminishing lands to killing women and children because they are in the way of your stealing their resources. by purposefully settling in what was essentially a combat zone, they forfeited their "innocent" status.
For the sake of argument, let's pretend you're 100% correct here. That white children are fair game to be murdered because their parents took them somewhere they had no choice in. I guess the little bastards should have run away from home, hijacked a ship, and sailed back to England.
The problem with american education is that its terrible when it comes to admitting the atrocities committed by americans. too many movies glorifying the "way the west was won" and not enough people willing to admit that in fact they were the bad guy, and not just the bad guys but posibly the most evil villains in history. it sort of changes the entire way you look at things. good old abe lincoln, freed the slaves, but he sure didnt like indians. andy jackson, good guy, except for the trail of tears I suppose.
Finally, you got one right. Many don't know, or want to admit, the horrific actions committed by their race/government/ancestors. Indians included. And before you go off creating another statement for me, I'm NOT saying one justifies the other. I'm saying their isn't a race in the history of the world that is innocent of committing atrocities. Not keeping score here. I just pointed out a fact.
if you want to know why indians dont like white people sometimes? its because too many of you arent willing to just say " yeah some screwed up stuff was done on our behalf, no excuses, we are genuinely sorry." instead we get " but indians killed some civillians too"
One of the 1st steps necessary in digging oneself out of the hole they're in, is to stop spending all their time doing laps in the pity pool. As long as people cling to the victim mentality, they will never get out of their hole.
As for me, I've already acknowledged the evil of man. Saying I'm sorry, after the fact, is as useful as a fur sink liner. But if you think it'll make me a white man who doesn't deserve to be murdered, along with my family, for trespassing, then the percentage of my white heritage, hereby apologizes to the Original American percent of my heritage.
And, I accept the apology. So you can't kill me now.
