Went to Garrison Brothers distillery for a bourbon tasting today, and all I can say is wow. Their standard release is on par with the ER17, very good stuff! They have a barrel proof "cowboy bourbon" coming out in two weeks, can't wait to taste it. I'm buying a bottle for you if I can, Bob.

Just get me your info and I'll paypal you the cost. Sounds like an interesting bourbon. Only thing that scares me a little is it is a newer distillery. How could it be aged very long???

Here's what I could find on it. I do love wheated bourbons, so it's worth a shot.

The distillery’s current formula is 74 percent corn (bourbon only requires 51%), 15% soft red winter wheat and 11% malt. And their whiskey is known for the caramel and butterscotch (and a bit of fruit) flavors that this corn brings to their product.

Ok here is one that goes a little off topic. Speaking with KoolBlue13 an old friend who loves bourbon and lives in the carribean islands now I was pointed to this;

He said he could not get any good bourbons down there so he has been sipping good aged rum and it tastes a lot like a bourbon. I picked this up and took it to the draft day party and it was a hit with all the bourbon guys who tried it. It will be a part of my rotation now too.
 
From what they said, the Texas heat accelerates the aging process. He said they can't age it as long as the Kentucky guys do, because it would be awful. Just a limitation I suppose.

They also use food graded 1 grains.

Ok all you guys local to DC. I would suggest hitting up the Beer, Bourbon, & BBQ Festival I already have picked up VIP tickets for me and my friend Larry so we'll be in attendance. This is a good place to sample a lot of bourbons. This should be right up your ally Travis I think it's closer to you than most stuff like this.

Hope some of you can make it, let me know if you decide to go!

Oh and if you get the VIP ticket it includes a private bacon tasting of different types of bacon. I think that would push it into the heaven category. :)

Oh wait, you aren't talking about the one at National Harbor on June 14th & 15th, but the one in Reston in September? Hmmmmmmmm....I think I'm going to Oakland the following week to see the Raider-game, so I might have to bow out. We shall see though. :)

Yep, I'll be out of town for the one in June at the Harbor.
 
Been on an alcohol holiday, but grabbed a bottle of Jack heading out of my father's place today. It's probably been sitting in his liquor cabinet for more than a decade. After a workout and some yardwork, been sipping on some for an hour or more. I gotta be honest, tastes as good as any of the 'fine bourbons' I've tried over the past year.

Maybe absence just makes the heart grow fonder :)
 
Wow, really? I mean, I wouldn't turn down a Jack and Coke, but the "fancy bourbons" I've tried shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. Also, Jack isn't bourbon. :)

Got my Garrisons Brothers, won't be able to try it for a could weeks though.

Went out with my brother in law and his wife last night and what was on the Bourbon menu? Eagle Rare 10! (Never have seen any ER on any menu here before).

Needless to say, a pretty pricy night though, but delicious
