Cooley to IR?

Hail to the Redskins is reporting this on Facebook. Have not seen a confirmation anywhere else yet though.

And just like that, it's official: TE Chris Cooley has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.


No roster moves as of yet, probably coming in the am.
 
So yesterday he was projected to be out 4 to 6 weeks and today he is going to IR.

Also yesterday Moss was projected to be out 5 to 7 weeks. You have to wonder if he will be far behind Cooley in going to IR. :(
 
Moss's I didn't think was as serious. My guess is that they will wait on him, and see how the team is doing. But if we lose a few more in the next few games, then yeah, I see them IR'ing him.

As I posted in the other thread, is this the last we see of Colley in a Skins uni?

Wouldn't surprise me either - maybe this is the beginning of the youth movement in DC? The only thing that doesn't fit is that he signed a 3-year contract. Although it could have been configured as a 1-year deal...

I think he was out 4 - 6 weeks because of his finger. He saw Dr. James Andrews yesterday who checked out his knee. That's probably what sent him to IR.
 
Yes, it was the knee that sent him to IR. #47 has played his last down with the Redskins according to insiders. He will be released during the offseason.

I can't imagine this would be the end of Cooley in DC. Yes, he will be 30 before next season, but he's got a couple good years left in him yet. The prevalence of the two-TE set in today's NFL should ensure he sticks around at least another year or two. Paulsen looks set to fill his role eventually, but I don't think he's quite there yet. Not to mention, Cooley didn't look halfway terrible at fullback - so he's versatile. His blocking has improved every year he's been here, and he's a great locker room guy.

All of that was from my inner Cooley-fanboy. Man I really don't want him to leave the Redskins.

This would blow and be a mistake, IMHO. Just look at how dangerous the Pats are with two serious pass catching threats at TE. You can make the argument that the pair in NE is only better pair of pass catching TEs in this league than we currently have in Washington.

Frankly, if Kyle can't figure out how to use them, I would rather get a new OC.

The same insiders who swore up and down we were drafting Gabbert at 10th overall, no doubt.
 
Agree completely Neo. Hernandez and Gronk tear it up weekly up there, because most teams don't have two good cover safeties. How we have never figured out how to get both guys on the field at the same time to tear through defenses is beyond me.

A healthy Cooley with Davis on the other side with Moss split wide? Fuhgeddabotit.

I understand what you are saying, but there are two factors to consider. From what I understand, Cooley will never be the same with this bum knee. Also, Davis will be a FA this coming offseason and he is a priority.

This is where my thinking is heading, cause God knows he hasn't figured it out yet. So far he hasn't even figured out to run, run, run on teams that give up 4-5 YPC
 
I don't think the team has any of the personnel on offense to run the modified Denver offense that Kyle runs.

Definitely not the quarterback and wide receivers.

This offense is where the defense was a year ago.

Interesting - I remember a lot of hype about Byrd when he came out, then he slipped to the 3rd round and eventually out of football. This is a strange move.
