I want to give a special hand to two rookies. One at the front end of the draft and one at the very back. Kerrigan and Nield... that was a fantastic debut. Keep it up.

Make sure no one tells Chris that seventh round nose tackles aren't supposed to contribute to two sacks... and Kerrigan, that was an amazing play!

Hail :claps:

Kerrigan looks like a keeper. On a non-rookie related note. Williams got handled today. Concerning to say the least

Yes, very concerning. Not like her was up against the "regular" Giants line either.

And Burgy, the rooks played great, no question. I am actually starting to wonder if replacing Doughty with Gomes might make some sense. Couldn't do any worse, could he?

Neild was the next to last player chosen in the draft. He looked very good today.

Doughty was out of position a lot. Better hope Landry gets back soon

that is a great idea IMO! Reid just always seems several steps behind in pass defense.

I don't know what to make of it! he doesn't have much in the way of speed (he is a NT afterall) but he made some quick moves off the first step.

I'm not actually sure because there seem to be conflicting reports, but Paul might have blocked the field goal.

Freudian slip?

Also, I am willing to go with the Gomes experiment. What could it hurt? Let him make his mistakes now and the future may be brighter.

Heh.

Gomes will certainly make mistakes, but he is almost certainly more gifted than Doughty, which may enable him to cover those mistakes better? May be worth a shot.

Hopefully Nield turns into a keeper

When was the last time we could say looks like we had a good draft? Just imagine how well the rookies could have been if Jenkins could play.

Nice notes on Neild here:

Because Chris Neild is destined to become a fan favorite if he keeps that massive beard and his 2-sacks-a-game average, I will now present seven Chris Neild bullet points for your Monday reading pleasure.

1) He wasn’t expecting 2 sacks in his debut.

Neild knew going into the game that he’d get about 10 snaps, in a rotation with Barry Cofield. In his entire four-year career at West Virginia, Neild recorded 6 sacks. So he wasn’t necessarily thinking he’d get a third of that total in a limited role during his NFL debut.

“I just went out there and tried to do my job,” he said. “I just go out there and play. Whatever comes about, comes about.”

2) He’s now destined for Canton.

“I told him at this pace he’ll be a Hall of Famer,” Cofield said. “Man, I’m so happy for him. He’s a guy who you don’t even know if he’s gonna make the team, and now he’s out there making big plays against my old team. I gave him a big hug. I’m excited for him.”

“You don’t expect that from a rookie nose tackle coming off the bench, seventh-round pick, going out there and putting up Pro Bowl-type numbers,” Lorenzo Alexander added. “Two sacks, a forced fumble? I mean, those type of numbers get you to the Pro Bowl.”

I am guessing that the Giants' game plan was to block the edges more on pass plays, and force the skins to show they can beat them in the middle of the d. Probably sliding pass protection to both Orakpo and Kerrigan leaving Nield one on one often. I guess he showed you have to pick your poison.

Today, and today only, Hail West Virginia! But with all do respect to Nield, I think my next jersey will be a Kerrigan. He's everything I want in a Redskin. Amazing motor, smart, opportunistic, and an all-around good kid.

To say that I'm very pleased with the youth on this team would be the understatement of the century.

Agreed. Sure as hell is nice to have more than one guy the O-line has to account for.

There have been a few comments about Nield getting a great first step. It reminds me of highschool soccer and our practices. I was a defender, and I usually won all the sprinting competitions on our team, but one of our forwards was always faster than I was in the box. I could beat him in a 40 yard race, but nobody on our team was even within a step of him in a 10 yard sprint. He went on to set his college record for goals. It look like Nield has that instant burst which may not show up in 40 yard times or even in shuttle drills. Reaction time and quickness in combination can be huge.

Actually, he was up against the "regular" for that spot now. Jason Pierre-Paul is the starter. Osi is the backup/rotational guy there now. At least, that is my understanding.
