In the child-like imaginations of Washington Redskins fans, there are monsters and behemoths out there. Gargantuan, menacing, all-powerful – the NFL...

Only one quibble, Boone. "their stunningly sharp burgundy- and gold-helmeted heads." Other than that, spot on.

I'm about to head off to bed, but for the BGO crew who will be in attendance that I haven't met, please introduce yourselves if I fail to do so. I'll be the slightly less fat than I used to be guy in the replica Cooley 75th, and black HOF hat. I look forward to meeting friends that I haven't spoken with in person.

For those of you that I have met, I look forward to sharing another cold one, reminiscing a little, and making some memories that we'll talk about at FUTURE tailgates!

Thank you, Boone. Thank you, BGO. Thank you, friends. It's a privilege to be a member of this community. HTTR!!!!

Likewise HH, likewise.... Hail.

Like those sad little Lilliputians in Gulliver's Travels, resignation and doubt seems to cling to Redskins fans. Against these Giants, we feel helpless and powerless.

We’re all doomed. It’ll never work.

The reasons why these Redskins might prevail over these Giants are manifold. It is not blind homerism to believe a victory is likely. It is informed faith, the best kind of faith. For one, this Redskins team, minus what appear to be pretty major offseason improvements, came within a field goal of beating these Giants, minus the major injuries and loss of key free agents, late last year.

Still, I understand, due to the Giants' recent dominance, why 'Skins fans would disbelieve. Let this game be the first test to building an informed faith. All of us, optimists, skeptics, the indecisive and those who just don't know what to think will watch today. Let's let the Redskins performance, good or poor, inform us of what to expect in the future.

I foresee a bit of euphoria among Redskins fans when the last whistle blows. ;)

I see us winning, and winning kind of surprisingly big. Their D has been decimated by injuries, and our O was looking good in the preseason. Indications are that the ZBS has perhaps taken hold, which if true, should help to free up the passing game as well. I don't think it will be a blowout, but I do think it will be decisive.

On today's game.....well..Ralph Kramden said it best:

"POW!! Right in the kisser!!!"

Yeah Beauty, I am not buying it. We won a meaningless game at the end of the season.

You guys are over looking a major uncertainty with our team, our offensive and defensive lines.

Look, I want the Redskins to win so bad I can taste it! I am just tired of buying into the hype. Faith? My Faith, was shattered last year when I bought into the hype for the last time.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Where is this supposed hype you speak of? Every sports radio and tv show I know of has picked us dead last,in the Luck sweepstakes and have the Giants cruising to an easy win today.

My hope this year stems from actually looking competent in preseason, which has been a rarity over the last 15 years.

Are we contenders? No.

Can we actually give opponents a "fit" and be a tough out? I think so. :square:

Local hype DP. Homerism at it's best. The marketing machine of Dan Snyder who seems to be able to sell a quality product to us every year and we buy into it hook line and sinker. You ever watch Redskins' Nation w/ Larry Michaels?

Apologies guys, I don't want to side track this thread from the great write up that Boone gave us. I want to be wrong, but I am a pragmatist.

Nothing to apologize for Elephant - what you're feeling is exactly what I'm talking about in the blog entry. Like most Redskins fans, you've had any sense of conviction/belief literally beaten out of you.

Truth is - I want to believe everything I wrote. My eyes tell me this it's a brand new day and that these Redskins are starting to believe they are relevant. It's hard though to shout down the demons of doubt in my head that come from experience.

I'm pretty much in the same place. We've looked better almost across the board, the lines and running backs especially. Plus we've got a lot more team speed, cohesiveness, and a lack of drama...for once.

I picked us to win this week and for the first time in a long while, I don't feel like a homer doing so. The Gnats defense has been decimated, their OL has been revamped, Eli has looked lousy in preseason and Nicks is nicked a bit. In short, their storyline sounds not unlike ours in a number of ways. All things being equal I think we'll win today and go on to surprise a lot of folks by having a decent season, say 7 or 8 wins.

Then again, I'm also the guy who thought McFlabb would come in and do well. Either way, our long offseason drought is over and we've got Skins fubbaw again. WOOHOO!!

Having myself eschewed extremes of euphoric optimism as well as despairing pessimism I'm looking forward to the Giants game with more than a little curiosity. We've all been watching the beginnings of what seems to be a transformation in the Redskins from a sad, dismal, dream-crushing circus into something that maybe...just maybe...we can start pinning hopes born of reality rather than "wishful thinking" upon.

I'm looking for us to be competitive. I think-I use the word think rather than believe because I do not believe sans evidence-that for the first time in a while I'll see a football team that plays together, unified, a coherent structured group of professional athletes with a noticeable sameness of purpose and direction. This is something I have genuinely missed.

I expect to watch a younger, stronger, faster, more athletic Redskins team than I've seen in far too long. Given the Giants injury problems it wouldn't really surprise me at all if we won this thing. It won't surprise me at all if we don't either. I won't, however, succumb to wild overreaching "pie-in-the-sky" dreams of a possible wild-card slot if we win nor will I sink into a "Oh No, not again" dismissal of the season as an already lost cause if we lose because even if we do, I'm pretty sure we won't embarrass ourselves in the process. We'll actually look like a real NFL football team.

I must admit, though, a win would feel awfully nice. :)

I am curious about this team and its new direction and I'm hoping I like the answers I'll start getting tonight.

Hail.

When I lay down to sleep at night, I thank the Lord that I don't have to listen to Larry Michael on any consistent basis and feel blessed to be out of earshot here in NC.

lol

It's time. Predictions have been made. Mine was posted earlier. Time to play the game and hope for the best.
