Apology Thread

I find it quite illuminating that you don't get it.
I have broken no rule, nor committed any violation I am aware of. So, I'd say I get it pretty well.

I use this place for a number of reasons. Entertainment, is one of them.

It is up to the staff to create, and then consistently enforce the rules.
They have, and do.

It's not up to me, or anyone else here to tell you which conversations you should engage yourself in. Nor is it up to anyone else to shield you from posters who might offend your sense of being. That's all on you, as well.

You could be less sensitive.

It was fine before them...those of us who are here for community and the Skins would stay...damn straight I would.

we finally agree on something.

I know...with near certainty...that just because there is a ban on political discourse outside the sandbox....THAT THE COMMUNITY SPIRIT WILL BE BROKEN. if the goal, the business proposition if you will, in the end, is a bunch of folks who share a common spirit/joy in the Redskins...then don't dilute that with a political room. I can live without it. I have other alternatives.

IMO...this is largely about what sort of site BGO intends to be. I was there with the founding brothers BEFORE ES was set up at the previous site we all visited. ES had similar goals in mind...and it failed.

this notion of principled discourse is farcical IMO. the subjects themselves are inherently polarizing. and the same dynamic will take hold....it already did in the apology thread! I want in on an enjoyable, let's talk football site. I can coexist with all the life sharing stuff. but politics? nope. it is serious business. it's not just a "well here's what I think" exchange "what grade do I get?" the exchange revolves around issues that can improve or F up my life. I don't want to hear it, frankly, when someone harbors points of view I know or suspect are part of larger currents that are going to diminish my quality of life, my freedoms, the freedoms of my family and friends. not at this site. nothing here is going to be illuminating. if we really want to return to status quo ante and develop a community atmosphere IN SPIRIT AS WELL AS PRACTICE.....get rid of the political room. there's no way the attitudes in that room don't carry over. they may never be verbalized....but they will always be there. everyone knows it - heck...it's amusing just watching the PM'ing that goes on around here when things heat up. the implied alliances.....the almost predictable exchanges (on all sides). if we want a real community about the Skins.....junk the stuff that creates divisions.

expressed differently...what real value does a political room bring to a site titled Burgundy & Gold Obsession?

Neither any of you, nor I, know if this change will be a plus or a negative. I'd suggest we wait and see :) It hardly is some world-changing, earth-shattering decision, either way. If it doesn't work out, we'll go some other direction.

I will say that while you have the right to your opinions Al, you are polarizing. So the fact that you see some topics as, by definition, unavoidably polarizing doesn't surprise me. That some of you think the goal to have conversations remain civil and friendly even while we may vehemently disagree pollyannish, I can't disagree more. And I'll also say that the day you manage to convince Mark, Bob, Sol, and I you're correct will be the last day we're open for business. If we're going to evolve to the same kinds of nonsense you can find everywhere else on sports websites, there's no sense being just 'one more site'.

Btw - apologies to the original thread starter whose thread we have completely hijacked :)

Boone...the subject matter is polarizing. the whole culture/polity has been intentionally polarized. not my fault some others aren't skillful when it comes to wielding the linguistic knife.

either way...this thread has been amusing....the holy and the less than holy have all showed their hands - in record time no less! no one...IMO...holds any aces.....other than the folks with ban powers...of course......

so.....give it try! I have my own sense for where truth lies.

over to Sons of Washington! better discussions going on there.

Enough said - bottom line is, I promise you we're trying this only with the best intentions and with hope that it makes the site experience more enjoyable. If it doesn't work, I'll be the first to admit it and pull the plug.

Btw - on the polarizing comment, that wasn't a shot at you. You know despite the fact that you sometimes are pouring gas on the flames on a given topic, I like and respect you. I was simply commenting that you may not be the most 'representative' or objective person to define why certain topics are 'polarizing'.

1) I know it wasn't me you were singling out.

2) I sure as H am polarizing!

3) In the end....we'll all bend and try to help actuate the dream!

time for a good cigar...spousal unit is off working a booth at a carnival! MC #2 here I come - famous cigar created by some French dude named Alex Dumas! have a great weekend.

You undoubtedly couldn't tell the difference between one, and a hole in the ground, either.

No worries. The intent of the thread was to apologize, but also to start some discourse to discuss a troubling trend I have seen over the past month or so. I have seen you close two threads (at least) just ie past two weeks, which is two more threads than I have ever seen you all close in the year-plus I have been here (spam a lot threads excluded, of course). And your comment, Boone, about being able to enjoy the site again was telling, and troubling. If the owners aren't enjoying themselves, we have serious problems, IMO. Hopefully the solution you have enacted will bring balance to the Force.

I for one, am optimistic.

Thanks for the support Goal...you're one of best members, so that means a lot

I was thinking about it yesterday, and if I'm being really honest, the change we made may be more about the staff than I originally realized. It really is a bummer to see guys who should be friends going at each other in a harsh and disrespectful manner - because it's so typical of other sites and we wanted so much for this place to be different. That may have been a naive concept, but we still believe in it.

Maybe the only positive change this will bring is a selfish one, that staff (myself included) can let go of the need we feel to babysit and police that stuff. It that turns out to be the case, I'll still be glad we made the change.

I find it interesting that the new forum has only a small amount activity thus far. It's like sticking your toes in the water and seeing if is ok to dive in. I'm a bit bemused at the timid start, but there can be no doubt that things will pick up - especially when big stories break and as we head deeper into the upcoming election season.

In the meantime, I plan on :kick_can: and :drummer: and :munching_out: and a measure of :anonymous: and :hammer: and a bit of :argue: and :nana: and rarely will I :notworthy: and :insane: and a lot of :rotflmao:

Most activity takes place during normal business hours. Must be nice to get paid for playing on the internet.

Not a big fan of the idea for selfish reasons. I won't participate. I hoped for a place to have civil discourse. Maybe it's just an unattainable goal where politics and such things are concerned. I enjoy reading the threads as much or more than posting, but when the attacks start, the enjoyment ends. Sites with un-moderated forums are a dime a dozen. This place should be the diamond in the rough.
