The Front Office: Adam Peters and Roster Construction

I am feeling the doom and gloom about the offensive line and corner, but Tanier has stared into the abyss too long. The Commies stomped on the Dolphins in joint-practice like every other team has since then, so that's an easy team to the add to the list of being worse than us. I can't take him seriously, or use him to judge other media.

If there's hope then it's that we stomped on the Dolphins and then against the Lions our twos looked good against their twos and our threes looked good against their threes. Against the Ravens, we were a steaming pile, but up until that game we competed.

Feels like they are stuck in the 2025 off season versus now and as for now they are harping on Diggs. I am failry confident Diggs is going to have the last laugh.

Diggs was the absolute best addition of the entire offseason, and I am including Styles, Oweh, Chiasson, Chenal… any addition we made to this roster that wasn’t on it last year.

This team is fading behind the Giants comment, that point is echoed by some others. But it feels so high school stuff to me. It comes off that their real point behind it feels more like -- the Giants are just cooler and more arrogant and Harbaugh >> Quinn. I don't think this roster sucks but will see.

Five years to build a consistent winner — seems long if Jayden is who we think he is. Usuallly you don't struggle or even be so so for 4 years with a franchise QB in the helm.

Well if we want to get technical Adam Peters built a winner in a single offseason, that is why I said consistent winner specifically. 2025 season is tough to judge because while I don't think the defense was much better on paper, I do think the fact that the offense was missing it's starting QB and WR1 for the majority of the season makes it hard to full evaluate how things would have gone. Perhaps 2025 looks closer to 2024, a few less wins due to tougher schedule, but as a fan base we come away still feeling good about the progress being made. I am pretty sure the offense being off the field a lot more in 2025 further exposed a mediocre defense that was much more protected in 2024.

If I could ask a question to Peters for his event on Thursday, and for the coaching staff too -- how much of a motivator is it for them all the outside negativity about this team. Heck even Peters colleagues crapped on his off season talking off the record to the Athletic. Quinn is one of the hot odds on favorite to be fired.

Reading about Quinn in 2024 at least he was obsessed with motivational issues, how much if any does this fuel them? lol, because people can think I or KDawg or DWinzit or Conn or a slew of other people here are negative about Peters and this roster -- but we are Larry Michael on steroids compared to the outside world on this team.



The Commanders are projected to win 7.7 games by DVOA. I think they have had a miserable offseason, despite adding Stefon Diggs. The cavalcade of 32-year old acquisitions I have been dunking on all summer leaves me with little faith about the quality of the front office and the lower tiers of the roster. Dire tales from joint practices make me wonder about the reconfigured coaching staff.
So I think the Commanders could be the worst team in the NFL. It’s hard to project them with the worst record, because the Browns quarterback situation is so dire that the team could surrender at the trade deadline, while the Cardinals schedule is so brutal.
Relitigating what the Commanders did after reaching the NFC Championship Game in 2024 is tricky. It’s easy to condemn the Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel trades, but those moves made sense at the time. The Commanders got so little besides Jayden Daniels from the 2024 draft that the seeds of decline may have already been sewn.
The Commanders needed to do a better job self-scouting the bottom half of their roster and creating competition among younger players in 2025 and this offseason. They should have stockpiled late-round picks and UDFAs and given the ones they did have better opportunities to win roster spots and roles. One or two come-from-nowhere contributors would make their roster look a lot less like the result of an end-of-free-agency shopping spree.

I know other people disagree with me, and I've said this before, and I'm not going to convince anybody, and nobody is going to convince me. I literally don't give a crap what anybody on the outside says about the team.

They're rarely right about anything.

The seahawks were picked to finish 3rd in their divisoin by the national media last year behind the Rams and 49ers and won the SB. And the division, for whatever that's worth.

The national media is essentially useless when it comes to any meaningful analysis. It's all click-bait stupidity.

The beat reporters have some information, the national reporters (Schefter, Rappaport) have information.

Everything else is just useless media dribble with no real intended purpose other than to make money for advertisers by getting people to click on their article.

Going by what we saw in preseason, I agree with them. But: it is preseason. That’s a huge caveat! So like you said: we wait.

I think when you look at team performance AND subsequent roster moves, I am nervous about how WAS compares to NYG and yes my guess is Harbaugh ends up looking better than Quinn. Not much to go on and for me, Q seems to hang it on his coordinators more (meaning it is more up to them to succeed or fail, although the KK situation shows he wants his input respected, which is a good thing to me).

That op-ed "article" by Tanier is trash. We weren't close to being the worst team in the NFL last year while having Mariotta throw to Chris Moore most of the season while paired with the worst defense in the league. I think it's a clown take to suggest we'll be even worse off this year with the upgrades we've made on the defense.

For me, it has nothing to do with whether I think the national media is ultimately going to be right or wrong. The NFL is incredibly hard to predict. What I find remarkable is just how universal the pessimism is.

We're now on Round 2 of personnel people who work for other teams being down on this roster. Then you have the analytics crowd, the draft media, national writers — almost every different corner of the NFL world seems skeptical of this team. That's pretty wild to me. Unjustified IMO. How many teams suck with franchise QBs?

Daniel Jeremiah, who's one of my favorite draft guys, now has Jayden as the fourth-best QB from that draft. Again, that doesn't mean he's right. I just find the whole pendulum swing fascinating. And a bit crazy.

And I don't really buy the idea that all players and coaches couldn't care less about this stuff. Bill Belichick and Joe Gibbs famously used negative media coverage as motivation. In Belichick's case, I read he'd sometimes manufactured slights to fire up his team. Players have referenced that stuff after games, too. I remember Gregg Williams talking about how almost every analyst picked Tampa to beat Washington in the playoffs, and he made a point of highlighting the one guy who picked Washington.

I get that the cool position is, "Nobody in that building gives a rat's ass what the media thinks." I'm sure some genuinely don't. But as a blanket statement, I don't buy it. Coaches have been using disrespect and negative coverage as motivational fuel forever.

And in this particular case, part of me actually likes how negative the coverage has become. I watched a YouTube video from a former NFL player who said he'd been at camp and talked to some of the coaches. According to him, there's some irritation in the building that the national media basically gives them no allowance for the ridiculous number of injuries they dealt with in 2025 and has instead just written them off.

I have no idea how accurate that is. But if there is some truth to it, good.

Pile it on. Tell them the roster sucks. Tell them 2024 was a fluke. Drop Jayden in the rankings. Pick them to finish at the bottom.

If this team has the talent that Peters and Quinn apparently believe it does, I'm hoping all of that becomes another log on the motivational fire.

an aside: I saw an ESPN article about Laquon Treadwell not giving his number to Keenan. him and Chris Moore are 2 of only 4 WRs from that draft class that are still in the league.

Remember last season when the Packers stomped us in Week 2 and they were instantly the new NFC media darling for a couple weeks until they just slowly faded back into the pack. September is definitely the portion of the season for overreactions and over correcting what the media got wrong going into the season with predicitions.

The article does make some good points. The commanders do have many 30+ players in key positions. The roster is definitely closer to the worst in the league than best.

We are basically counting on one player to make it work.

They’re not trying to be right. And once one starts going down a negative road everybody has to out negative the next guy or else they aren’t interesting.
