Well.. the regime is at least aware of the outside perception. AP alluded to having prepped an answer to the questions concerning IOL.

Their canned answer about the line was they were pleased with everything but C, while offering mealy mouthed reasons for optimism for the guys they currently have.

For a group that refuses to single anyone out in a negative way (at least publicly), that’s about as clear as they’re going to get that they are not happy with where they’re at.

I’m not going to be able to get sign off from my wife on this but I’d be willing to bet a significant chunk of my 401K they are adding someone of substance to that group - not just a scrap heap castoff - before week 1.

I have been nervous about the lack of moves since yesterday there but this presser soothed my concerns a bit.

Disclaimer: I do not and never will condone the tact of lecturing the fans to be patient and let the pros do their work. That is as stupid as telling a football program you have to retire my number or else I will feel very disrespected. PR group prob went from nodding their heads to cringing in real time.

The thing is, and I've been moaning about this for weeks, even if you like Allegretti you need to improve the depth behind him. Heck, we need to improve the depth at guard, too.

I know as a coach/GM you are obliged to hype up the players on your roster, but I hope this is just lip service. I have no idea why anybody in their right mind would "very confident" in a career guard who is transitioning to center for the first time in his career, and who could only muster one practice the entire summer because of a string of nagging injuries.

I have zero faith that Alegretti will remain healthy all season, which means we're barreling towards having a player start at center that has essentially never played any NFL snaps; Gulbin being a rookie and JGJ being so bad he's earned a total of 5 reps over 6 years as a journeyman.

It confounds me that this staff and FO didn't take a look at this see the obvious urgent need there. This problem has been staring them in the face for months.

It could be pure hype. Will see. I stick to Quinn after the Lions game saying they need to figure out center. It makes no sense that their conclusion is on reflection they have it figured out. So my guess is still that they do something.

I mean, I get where you’re coming from but if it was just lip service, they would’ve made a move when other OL-needy teams were doing so. Right or wrong they really seem to believe this stuff

My big concern is that we only have 3 corners on the active roster. Has anybody ever seen that before? I suppose we’ll use safeties if a team goes 4 wide, but don’t we still need reserves?

They signed Moreau back today so technically it’s 4.

I actually think it’s a little crazy that he’s doing that lol. Good for him and it’ll probably mostly be homers asking questions if they do any sort of vetting, but that’s something you do after 2024 lol.

Yes, I do agree they know more than we do about what’s going on inside the building and potential moves to allow them to move forward.

We aren’t privy to everything.

Obviously our front office is just way smarter than you. AP obviously has something cooking that you know nothing about, and you should obviously have more patience and faith that you’re not seeing what you think you see cause it’s obvious… understand?

I think the fear right now is even if the coaches are legitimately okay with the projecting starting O-line, how likely is it (for any team really) that all five will be healthy the entire season. Since some of these guys are depth being elevated, how good can the recently promoted depth behind them be outside of getting a handful of snaps per game for rest substitution?
