I'm not entirely sure I agree, time is a funny thing. There's recency bias which plays a part.

My 13 year old son has on the Chiefs v Seahawks and we just sat through the beating of the Tom-Tom, the chant, and the Tomahawk Chop. He said “ I don’t understand why they are ‘allowed’ to do all that, but we can’t even have the old logo.”

Also, the Wetzel family relative whose family created the logo was on Galdi and said that the Native American community works with the chiefs closely and there is a partnership there.

I get all that, but NA imagery is either ok or it isn’t and even my son already finds the NFL’s hypocrisy hard to swallow.

That’s only true if you think this is purely a moral issue, and we obviously know that it isn’t, whatsoever. The NFL are hypocrites all the time, we put ourselves in a position under former ownership where we made ourselves very vulnerable to forced change. We lost the protection of the shield. You can blame Snyder for losing his status as a made man. Expecting a confederacy of shithead billionaires to ever do the correct or consistent thing for anything other than serving their own interests…that just doesn’t make sense.

There’s no reason to expect the NFL to treat every situation equally. They circle the wagons around their people. Snyder lost his status and was left to the wolves.

I know that is correct, but it still a damn hard pill to swallow every time I watch game that involves the darlings of the NFL and now my son is tasting it too.

For sure, it sucks. But it’s why I never really complain about our treatment compared to other teams with adjacent branding and traditions. Because of the context. Because I know why we lost the war while they’re still allowed to battle, and frankly, I think it was worth paying that price to actually do the rare thing of ousting an incompetent, horrible, cruel billionaire from his position as our owner.

I found peace with the unfairness of the situation years ago because the incompetence and self-destruction that led to how miserable he made fans for decades, were the very same qualities that led to us losing the name and then Snyder selling the team. I see it all as very much intertwined and thus, I’ve come to terms with it. If his idiocy lost us our identity, at least it also gained us a chance at another Super Bowl in the future, and a reason to hope again.

If Snyder was slightly better and slightly more competent and managed not to lose the branding, then I honestly believe that it also would have meant we were stuck with him and his family ruining our team forever. It’s a devil’s bargain we didn’t have a choice in, but that I would have signed willingly.
