2026 Commanders Training Camp

Quinn AGAIN going out of his way to rave about Quan Martin (this time about how much he’s helping on ST’s) despite poor play on D means he probably makes the roster. Lost it when my timeline refreshed but Grant Paulsen mentioned it

I'm going to desperately hope this just means Quan and Reaves are basically swapping roster spots, with Quan playing more on ST and less on D. I can't go through another season watching Martin constantly miss assignments and tackles. I JUST CAN'T DO IT MAN!

Pretty fascinating, this guy is a good follow and has worked for NFL teams:

Preseason games don’t matter.

The information edge is in joint practices.

I built a sentiment index for every documented NFL joint-practice series from 2011 through 2025 using all available public reporting, including local beat writers, team sites, national media, film analysis and fan communities.

Each report was evaluated for independence, affiliation, coverage and confidence. Special attention was given to the strongest anti-homer evidence: beat reporters acknowledging that the opposing team won the joint practice.

Over those 15 years, teams that clearly won joint practices exceeded their preseason win totals in 30 of 51 seasons: 58.8%.

Clear losers exceeded theirs only 23 of 52 times: 44.2%.

That alone suggests an edge.

But the real edge appeared when preseason expectations and the practice field disagreed.

Teams projected at least one win worse than their opponent, but that clearly won the joint-practice series, went 13-6 against their preseason win totals and averaged 1.08 wins above expectation.

The favored teams that clearly lost went 7-12 and averaged 0.82 wins below expectation.

Clear losers were also three times as likely to demote their opening quarterback for performance.

And teams conclusively beaten on both sides of the line of scrimmage (offensive line and defensive line) started the regular season 8-19-1 against the spread over the first four weeks.

The edge may not simply be identifying who won practice.

It may be identifying when an unexpected result exposes something the market has not fully captured.

We went into more detail on this study in tonight’s Paganetti and Underhill episode on YouTube:

Dang Burks is one big WR. Move him to TE already and dump Sinnott. Burks is only an inch and about 10 pounds off Chig.

Back to Quan for a sec.... I remember when he was drafted, there was a little bit of split opinion on him whether he was a safety or a cornerback. He's pretty fast and athletic, and he plays the ball pretty well. But safeties have to have good instincts and film study habits. He doesn't have either. And he's not a good tackler. Yet I haven't heard any mention of trying him at cb ever, despite this team having a need thrre. Wonder why not?

Probably because part of his issues as a safety have been his complete inability to read a guy’s hips, he takes some of the worst angles I’ve seen from a highly pedigreed guy and I can’t imagine his eyes will work any better playing off a WR while running backwards and sideways.

I don't want to let myself expect too much from Burks because of his inability to stay on the field but it is hard to deny his physical tools & ability when out there.

I don't think Burks has as many physical tools as people think.

He's not moving like Julio Jones did. Burks does high point well in the red zone which is where these clips come from...but besides that?
