2026 Injury Updates

Might have missed this but I didn't see this posted. Hopefully it is a nothing burger 🤞

Commanders RB Rachaad White (undisclosed) did not practice on Wednesday.

ESPN’s John Keim expects to hear an update on White tomorrow morning. Backup RB Jeremy McNichols is dealing with a quad injury and RB Jerome Ford (hamstring) was recently placed on injured reserve. As things currently stand, starting RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt, rookie RBs Kaytron Allen and Robert Henry, and veteran RB Craig Reynolds are the four healthy players. Croskey-Merritt’s reported passing game improvements have come at the right time. Allen played well on a sizable preseason Week 1 workload. He might be in line for RB2 duties if White were to miss time.

I mean, people were calling Quinn’s camp “Club Quinn” last year and blaming that partially for our injuries and slow start, begging him to crank up the intensity and get the starters more reps in preseason. Can’t win either way if the luck breaks against you

Yep. It's really just bad luck. And probably more common in the NFL than it feels like it is, just seems like we always have more than our share...

Injuries are always going to happen.

Nick Allegretti has played 7 seasons in the NFL. He’s only started in more than 9 once. He’s not used to having this kind of work load. And the one season he started all 17 he was a guard, not a center.

This is where I make a smart ass comment about how at least if we had Biadasz we’d have an experienced plan in place.

Tunsil was a freak accident.

That said, it should be ebbs and flows. Days of high, days of low. It can’t all be high octane all the time and it definitely can’t be like it was last year.

We bet on being a healthy OL. So far, that doesn’t look like a good bet.

This article seems to indicate it's a new ankle injury he suffered in his second day back to practice:

But it's all really loosy goosy language.

The thing is, he suffered a broken leg. It was never reported that by "broken" it meant "had to be re-attached." So broken leg shouldn't take 8 months to heal.

I would understand if it took some time to get strength back.

My guess is this is something new, but that's strictly a SWAG.

And that doesn't make it better. He needs to get healthy and get and keep his ass out there. I ranked him as the 2nd most indispensable player on the team because of what's behind him. Daniels was first. McLaurin 3rd (this was before Diggs signing), Allegretti 4th because JGG and rookie 6th round pick were behind him, Tunsil 5th because he might be the best player on the team.

And 3 of my top 5 have been out. 5 is done for the year (Tunsil), 2 has practiced once, and 4 is returning to practice this week

Ironically the two guys who missed the most time last year both look great in Daniels and McLaurin.
My God man, delete the last sentence expeditiously.

Newton likely hitting IR probably means an unexpectedly open roster spot. I know he wasn’t doing well but I don’t think they would’ve actually cut him at this stage, I think he was probably a lock for one more year.

Probably not the absolute worst news, if you’re resigned to him being a likely bust and have been reading about the veteran DT’s that have been outplaying him and are now ensured a roster spot.

I don’t feel bad about tackle. Wylie isn’t a bad swing backup. I am really worried about center. Alerts was a risky move even before he got hurt. I hope Peter’s is watching the cuts and waiver wires carefully.

You are giving Wylie more credit than he deserves at OT. He has not been very good on the outside. He always was decent at G so hearing he has been struggling there is scary because our depth no longer looks very good.

Center has been in turmoil since the surprising release of Biadasz.

We really need Allegretti to get back to being healthy. That would better solidify the interior. If he stays out we are in trouble with no one else having real NFL C experience

It worries me that Allegretti got hurt again immediately. Make me fear that this is going to be a chronic thing that's just going to keep resurfacing through the year.

As a backup and spot starter, I think Wylie is okay. As a starter, I agree he is not good enough. Ideally though, you'd want someone with more potential so I'm not opposed to upgrading ever. Ironically, Cornelius Lucas is apparently available. He's a couple years older, but when he was here he was probably the best swing tackle in the league. Not good enough to start for long stretches, but very good for a game or three.

They aren't going to sign Decker simply for depth at the price he's reportedly asking for.
I don’t think Decker would sign as a backup, it’s all process. You start him at left tackle, and Coleman swings inside to the guard and can be the swing tackle spot. Signing Decker creates depth because then Paul is on the bench. Maybe Paul can place center as well.

Allegretti really concerns me at center even if he was healthy. Dude has been in the league for a while now, and has never been a full-time starter at center. Now magically, we think he figured it out and he’s good enough to start?

Maybe it is time to get a feeler out to Jason Kelce and see if he has enough in the tank for one last ride.
It could possibly be a win-win: he could solidify the C position for a year, and we wouldn't have to see/hear him on TV every 30 seconds.

Man.. players are dropping like flies all over the NFL this year.. maybe its just me, but seems like we're seeing more injuries this early vs previous years. I hope Peters doesnt do anything stupid like cut players early to give them a shot to catch on somewhere else... WRs especially. Wash might incur more injuries at the position and even if not.. we might be able to trade 1 or 2 if a lot more WRs get injured around the NFL in the next week or two.
