2026 Commanders Training Camp

Is there a second scrimmage today or just a walkthrough as the times prep for preseason game number one.

In yesterday's BGO pod, we began to wrestle with the question of what's more important these days, an intrasquad scrimmage/practice or a preseason game. I think with the way teams hold out starters and principle backups, the scrimmages probably mean more except to the bubble and fringe players.

I believe it’s his mom 100%. It’s bad publicity either way and is going to tarnish his legacy at LSU. He has some damage control to do. I’d like to believe he could stand up to his mom and say ain’t no way we are doing this, let alone go public.
And the funny part is Nuss was wearing 5 the season prior and ended up giving the 5 to Jayden.

Oh well, glad to see them lighting up a poor Dolphins squad yesterday. Diggs and Chig may open up our aerial attack big time.

Glad I keep hearing good things about Yankoff in camp! Still waiting for a reason to get that jersey. 😂😂 Reminds a little of Cooley, they way he plays. #HAIL

Same! I'm really pulling for him.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................:uhoh:😁

Sounds like a 'is the juice really worth the squeeze?' situation. I mean, LSU jersey revenue - it's literally chump change for a guy who is going to set the market for NFL QB salaries soon.

Agree completely, it’s hard to see how the damage to his reputation is worth whatever might be gained here.

I will just point out, if THIS is the QB character controversy we are worried about, we are doing pretty well by NFL standards, lol...

I mean it’s not Brandon Aiyuk’s insanity or Michael Vick’s dogs, but it isn’t a good look either. It comes off as too proud, like he cares more about his image than his alma mater. They didn’t retire Joe Burrow’s number either, and he accomplished more.

Been thinking about something related to this.

One of Beathard's magic was finding players from anywhere in the draft. So, if Sinnott busts but from the same draft Yankoff emerges, then it can be marked as a win. Happily, Sinnott seems to being doing better this camp. He may never measure up to his draft stock, but if he is a solid, utility player and Yankoff is a good move tightend, then at least we recruited useful pieces.

I generally agree that it’s a bad look. But also, why should a college continue to be able to profit off of a professional athletes name, image, likeness, without the professional athlete getting cut in? Philosophically, that does not make sense to me.

If it’s about not having his number retired, that looks petty. It’s hard to say no to family, but Jayden is 25 years old. He’s old enough not to have his mom in charge of decision making.

More importantly, I’m absolutely thrilled with how good he’s looked in camp.

If you care about your LSU legacy, is there a faster way to kill the memory of that legacy than to legally insist that they don’t use imagery of you playing for them going forward? Okay, you win, someone else is wearing your number and we won’t be associating our current program with your history any longer. Good luck with your future.

Is that really a win for a guy in line for what’s likely a half a billion dollar contract?

They also haven't given out #9 since Burrow left LSU.

That said, seems like the right thing for Daniels' camp to do here was, behind the scenes, work out an agreement with LSU for Pickett to wear #5, following which the school would retire the number(s).

Feels like the mistake here was LSU promising Pickett during 2024 recruiting - after Daniels won the Heisman - that he could wear #5, while at the same time continuing to hold #9. Not a good look, Tigers.

I'm not a Brian Kelly fan but he was right when he recently said about this, you can't treat one different than the other. We're talking about 2 of the 3 LSU Heisman winners, with an LSU number retirement policy that specifically references that award as a primary criteria - along with a 5-year waiting period after graduation before the number can be retired. I'd expect they'll eventually retire both numbers.

Really wish they would give Wylie a go at LG. He looked great run blocking in the preseason last year and looked best with KC at guard.

That’s on Brian Kelly, who is since long gone. Not LSU. Jayden looks like a clown here any way you slice it. We all know it’s his mom but to let her and a legal team go forward with this and make headlines is so incredibly dumb. Maybe this finally wakes Jayden up and he leaves the nest from mom.

LSU's own published policy says that, for jerseys retired after January 1, 2007, retiring an athlete's jersey does not necessarily prevent a current athlete from wearing that number. The head coach has discretion to allow it. LSU expressly distinguishes those numbers from the five pre-2007 numbers—Maravich (23), Pettit (50), O'Neal (33), Cannon (20), and Bertman (15)—which "may never again be worn."”

So Quinn wasn't happy about the defense in general but thought Styles and Chenal were ok. I think it's tough to care that much about the defense because they were the only 2 starters out there. It feels like he was trying to make a point. And it might be he was trying to make a point to one or two players, specifically Johnny Newton.

Also their usage wasn't part of the scheme. So they've been doing one thing all training camp and then got put into a different scheme (practically) for 1 series.

Exactly. No one talks about the 49ers going all in on bust Trey Lance as the future because they happened to have drafted Purdy to zero fanfare with the final pick the following draft.

No GM hits on all their picks, but mistakes are quickly forgiven & forgotten about if your ratio is on the plus side.

Kyle and Lynch got lucky as hell. If they didn’t get Purdy who is an even more unlikely good QB than Brady, they might have both been fired. You can’t spend all that capital and blow the pick and then suck and keep your job.

If Purdy hadn’t been a lucky find, they might have been in QB Hell and the team might have been bad and they might have been gone.

Sometimes better lucky than good.

Yep and let's be honest, not that I am shading Purdy, but he was drafted right onto a talent-rich contender of a team.

But frankly so was Lance who apparently just can’t play.

They got lucky with Purdy that he’s good.

And I’m not saying good GMs can’t miss on top pick QBs.

Our own Bobby Beathard orchestrated possibly the worst trade in the history of the league trading up a spot to pick Ryan Leaf.

It happens to the best GMs.
