The 2026 Free Agency Thread

Heh. Nobody ever has to apologize to me for being a downer 🙂

I agree it’s a big if. But I also think ‘strength of schedule’ means very little from one season to the next. I make no predictions on our record other than to say if Daniels can make it through the season this team will win more than it doesn’t.

I have zero faith in Allegretti's ability to prevent rushers steamrolling up the middle and completely disrupting the Blough offense when they're not flattening JD5. Not surprised one little bit if we later look back at 2026 and say the way AP (mis)handled the Biadasz release, and his failure to sign a better replacement, torpedoed the season.

Was having this discussion earlier today about the WR room, I think when it comes to WR depth at the 3-4-5 spots the WR room is adequate, maybe better, but the glaring hole on paper at least is the lack of a solid WR #2 especially when the #1 is more of a fringe on the bubble caliber #1 rather than superstar caliber #1. If we had a WR we could all point to with confidence that they were at the level of a solid #2 then I think as fans we would be a lot more comfortable against defenses getting caught trying to overcompensate to take Terry out of the game. As it stands now I think it is a risk defenses are more willing to take when the rest of the room is mainly seen a JAG depth guys. That doesn't mean they are not good WRs and are incapable of making plays but I am not confident in relying on any of them right now should Terry either get locked down decently well in games or if he misses any time.

The Aiyuk situation seems to be getting worse with every passing day, but IMO, with everything else going on in regards to the WR situation I still believe Aiyuk is who the front office is most wanting to get on the roster because to me then you likely have better than regular #2 in the #2 spot and it changes a lot of what defense will have to figure out about covering this passing game.

I was all in on Aiyuk when his feud was with San Fran. Now it is with our franchise QB. That is just asking for a cancerous locker room culture. No thanks.

You can see him spiraling and his irrationality. He is now connecting Daniels staying out of the drama with his money. Which means he’s going to get nasty now, since he apparently doesn’t understand that his future money ACTUALLY depends on him:

1. Taking care of his warrant

2. Successfully applying for reinstatement (which he’s said he won’t do bc he sees it as “doing business” with the 49ers) and

3. Reporting to training camp to maybe get cut

Now that he’s mentally connecting his relationship with Daniels to his bank account, it could get publicly ugly. Because he clearly doesn’t understand anything, or is mentally ill.

Society would be better served not giving mentally ill a massive spotlight to enjoy watching their struggles.

You can't tell me much of the NFL media personalities. Radio hosts, writers, TV, etc aren't thankful Aiyuk is giving them material that they will then talk about. The whole situation sucks, especially those eagerly feeding it.

Actually i think at this point he is coming off wackier than Antonio Brown. My guess is his days of playing are over.

I think Aiyuks biggest problem is money. He has enough that he is more than set for life, he can afford to be a dumb ass. Though I seriously have my doubts that he will retain what he has.

I'm sad to say i think we've reached that point.... and sad to say because this is not normal behavior.

I'll freely admit we've seen abnormal behavior from WRs before, but he's positioned himself beyond that level of 'normal' diva WR behavior. I just dont think the juice is worth the squeeze at this point, and i don't believe any NFL team thinks it is either.

Aiyuk's last tweet was about wanting money because the 49ers didn't pay him, so he'd keep being doing the "social media bullshit" because of the money whether he's on a team or not. Between this and the tweets months ago about getting expensive clothing accessories, I don't think he's set for life. I'll be surprised if he's set for the next decade.

For me, it is sad in the same way that passing a car wreck on the side of the road is sad. It is a spectacle, it is unfortunate for the ones involved, but it will be beyond our rear view mirror and forgotten by the end of the season. Sooner, if the team signs Diggs or anyone else who negates the only reason Aiyuk mattered to the team.

Feels like the Diva WR has drifted pretty far away from the days of Chad OchoCinco and Terrell Owens. Who loved the grind and clearly worked hard, didn't quit on their teams, and weren't nearly as crazy as the media portrayed them to be.

I get people calling Terry McLaurin last off-season a diva, but only in the sense of 2000's WRs. Definitely not in the same diva stratosphere of the 2020's WRs.

That was my point, he's surpassed 'normal' diva behavior. What were seeing now is past selfish and pushing into detrimental.

Whats crazier is he's living in a world now that it's more and more accepted to be loud and boisterous, and he's pushed himself beyond what is 'acceptable.' The current climate is as accepting of speaking your mind as it's ever been. Guys have their own podcasts, there is literally multiple reality shows every season following players around recording every minute of their football lives.. EVERYONE has social media, and everyone speaks out on it, yet he's doing something that stands out.. that alone should be a flag to ask if it's too far.

Mental illness is a real thing - and I think what we have seen from this guy is a reflection of some serious mental illness. He is sabotaging himself in a way that puts his entire career (and earning potential) at total risk. If it were just a beef with San Francisco that would be one thing. Sometimes those kinds of things happen, even with decent human beings. But there is clearly something wrong with Aiyuk and it is probably a blessing in disguise that he has escalated and made it clear to everyone (especially WR-needy teams like ours) that acquiring him would be foolhardy and detrimental to the team.

As much as it sucks, I must agree it is reminding me of Antonio Brown who just keeps up his dumbfuckery. Hopefully the only thing Aiyuk does is illegal is the dirinvg incident and he stays healthy and out of legal troubles
