It’s unstable behavior. Which is often viewed as a fairly big deal.

My thing is the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. I’d rather roll with what we have. It feels like at the very least we have professionals at the position. I respect that.

Its an outlier for professional athletes because they have agents (and others) that curb this type of stuff. But within his demographic group, shit talking someone that has pissed you off is not uncommon.

So again, I go back to... if you (not you specially, but the rhetorical you) are ok with Diggs and all his baggage, this is far less serious IMO

Whatever antics Aiyuk pulls (no matter how unstable), it’s worth signing him to appease JD5. That is the bottom line. Need to start showing our QB some love, in hopes of resigning him to an extension down the road. If Aiyuk fails, which is 50/50 in my opinion, as least we can tell JD5…we tried. Sometimes, a good faith effort goes a long way in negotiations.

I wonder what Jayden is thinking. He's publicly been supportive of his friend to a degree, but Jayden is not a noisy guy. He seems like a come to the office, work your ass off, and get it done kind of person. I do wonder if all this nonsense embarrasses Daniels and is putting a strain on their friendship. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a lot more important to Brandon than Jayden. I'm sure Jayden would welcome a talented, top receiver, but does he want a friend he has to babysit? Is Brandon going be more work than help?

It could go the other way, of course. I think Jayden called Brandon, "his boy." Maybe it really would be a thrill to get to play with him again and he'd love it. Maybe it would kill him when the 49ers let Brandon go if the Commanders pass on him. I certainly have friends who have different personalities than I do. Maybe Jayden needs clowns in his life? Maybe once this is settled, Aiyuk returns to who he was before his contract mess and injury ever happened? It'd be facinating if we could be a fly on the wall and listen to private phone calls between them (have there been phone calls between them over recent days?). Is Jayden and Brandon laughing like middle school children and co-plotting their next Instagram prank? Is Daniels trying to settle Aiyuk down and trying to counsel him? Somewhere inbetween? If Brandon isn't listening to him or if they haven't been talking, what does that mean?

Anyway, I bet Peters, Blough, and Quinn have been trying to figure this part of it out too. I don't know how directly they've been asking. Maybe they have to be circumspect because of "tampering," but it would be such a temptation to turn to Jayden and just question what is going on in Brandon's head. Luckily, Peters also knows Aiyuk. He got to be around him for a couple of years so he knows him about as well as a personel guy can.

Yeah, I think Nicky has nailed it. His tactics show not just a lack of maturity, but a lack of intelligence. There is nothing in what he has done that is helpful to him. I am sure that his decisions run completely counter to what his agent and other advisors have been telling him. It's self-sabotage on an epic scale. We've all known people who, when put in a bad situation, make it far worse by making terrible decisions. I don't see how anyone can convince themselves he's handling this shrewdly. He's not.

Yes. I also hate the idea we'd sign BA to appease Jayden. Imagine signing him and then needing to cut him. That seems like bad juju for Jayden.

I'd also think Jayden would totally understand if the team didn't sign him based on BA's unstable behavior no less ll the other concerns any team would have before signing him.

I am still watching Diggs and Boutte. The coaches are coming off the OTA's with a better feel for what each of the receivers brings to the table. Diggs is reliable and should be had at a decent contract. Boutte gives a legit proven field stretcher and only 24. If he were a FA I'd guess they'd be looking closer at him. The fact that he's cost them a pick isn't appealing but it be be as a little as a 6th rounders or some sort of similar compensation.

Aiyuk had beef with the 49ers before they offered him the big contract. If he didn’t want to repair the relationship and be a normal member of the team, he shouldn’t have signed with them, he would’ve gotten his freedom much earlier. I’m sure the pressure was on from his agent and loved ones to take the big contract while it was on the table, but everything about his situation flows downhill from his decision to sign somewhere he didn’t really want to be. And from that moment on every little thing that happened piled on top of that relationship, which had a shaky foundation.

I hated Richard Sherman as a player - mainly because he often embarrassed us. Richard Sherman the analyst I like. I don't always agree, but I respect and always listen to his takes. I think he has a great analysis here. (Side note: if Sherman could get his personal life together, I think he has the talent and smarts to be a front office guy in the NFL.)

Assuming signing Aiyuk is still on the table once he is a free agent the front office will have to do their due diligence to determine whether all the Aiyuk drama and strife is specifically a 49ers organization driven situation or whether the drama would travel with him and infect the this roster. Things have escalated enough to where "the circus" aspect is going to come with Aiyuk regardless of where he signs, but especially here since he has been attached to the Commanders ever since expressing his desire to exit the 49ers. The NFL schedule-makers sure seem to have anticipated this by sending the team into SF (Santa Clara) for MNF.....a game that I plan on being at, btw!

I see what you mean about their different personalities, but clearly Jayden and Aiyuk are friends. They played together in college and Jayden said he is a “brother” who he has a “personal relationship” with. Aiyuk also posted a picture of Jayden practicing in his @theb1ggestbrand cleats last year. Now we have him posting a video of one of our practice balls, most likely given to him by Jayden at some point. Then there was that thing about Jayden’s mom and friend liking social media posts about bringing in a receiver. So while I do agree Jayden has been more professional than Aiyuk, I worry he is probably “in on” a lot of the drama.

Something I forgot to add to my previous reply is the question of whether Aiyuk, once signed here or elsewhere, can put the genie back in the bottle and just put his head down and put in the work on the field to get back into the best version of himself or is the circus aspect going to be too much to come back from. We are already going to have all eyes on Terry coming off the first season where had signifcant injuries to keep him off the field for a lot of the season and now the potential #2 WR on the team would be bringing all the extra fluff with him. Talent-wise there is zero issue with Terry & Aiyuk as the top two dawgs in the WR group, in fact, assuming Terry is at least back to 2024 form and Aiyuk can still separate from defenders I would be quite happy with them leading the group on paper, but I also know given the situation with both, they will be under a microscope and anytime it is perceived they are underperforming in a game the whispers are going to get loud, fast.

But the solution to get out of this predicament is to pull up his big boy pants and visit the big evil castle with dark clouds and lightning bolts flashing all around it, walk in the door, and either get paid or get cut. The evil villains don't want to pay him, so he will get cut.

But that's harder than tweeting about the Commanders. I know people like that irl. They have a problem, it is a 40 minute round trip to solve their problem, but they will refuse to take that trip. They would rather complain about it in an hour long phone call instead.

Honest question... can he force anything by showing up during an off day (no OTAs no training camp)?

Can he show up tomorrow and request to be removed from the DNR list?

As far as I know, it has to be during scheduled team activities. The voluntary OTAs were his first chance. Training camp in July is his second chance. He also has to pass a physical, which would be a massive can of worms the 49ers would be opening if they don't pass him. By skipping the voluntary OTAs, he made a bed he has to sleep in for the next month.

My previous posts were not "pro Aiyuk decision making"... more like... it's not the end of the world as some are making it out to be.

It's entirely possible his plan was to show up for the mandatory mini-camp that was cancelled 🤷
