The 2026 Free Agency Thread

If he has to show up to get released and doesn't then he has to know this by now.

If Aiyuk is dumb enough to allow the 49ers to shelve him unpaid for the second time in two years we are better off without his services anyway.

How dumb do you have to be to allow that to happen?

Would likely mean that he's not interested in playing again because he can't really be that dumb.

Yeah that’s kind of what I was getting at, I think there’s a decent chance of that exact scenario playing out, and then he spends the rest of his life posting dumb cryptic shit about the 49ers/Commanders as if he wants to play, while actually having completely lost his desire to play. It’ll be a story every offseason until he’s like 34 or until he has something tragic happen, and he’ll never report until it’s too late. Feels like that type of untreated mental illness. 30% chance I think.

Or he shows up in July and gets cut and signs here. We’ll see.

I’m beyond tired of him using the Commanders as a tool in his non sense. I’d rather roll with what we have.
I may be with you.

I've started and deleted several posts about how if he's this dumb when it comes to player relations how can we ever think he's smart enough to master a playbook.

Bc they're different skillsets. How many football players who can master a playbook do you think would master reading financial statements? How many bankers who have mastered reading financial statements do you think could master medicine? How many doctors could master programming? I don't think it's all that confusing how someone could be a genius at one thing and a dumbass in another.

All he has to do to end this is show up. And he’s sent home and then released before September 1.

And if he’s sent home then he can file a grievance.

If he’s too stupid to figure that out, I almost question why he’s Daniels’ Friend.

It doesn't take a degree to understand that showing up for work means the team has to pay you or fire you. This is asking whether a banker should know that you have to show up at work to get a paycheck.

His next Madden NFL awareness rating is going to be a 57. When he wakes up in the morning, he loses three of his teeth before he discovers that he's trying to eat a rock for breakfast.

Here’s a better source on his latest IG Post:

I really can’t be mad at him for posting about the 1991 team, one of the best in NFL history. If anything, that makes me like him more.

On the other hand, it’s fair to question his mental stability at this point. If not for that, bringing in Aiyuk would make sense for all parties. Maybe make any contract contingent on a physical and psychological evaluation?

Is it reasonable to think there has been some back-channel communications between Aiyuk to Peters? Despite the tampering potential. Maybe thru Jayden? Seems clear to me, getting to the Commanders, has been orchestrated to some degree by Aiyuk, and with Jayden's knowledge.

I can't imagine Jayden would even put AP in that position, but who knows. I would expect Harris and AP have had this discussion as well.

I can’t really respect him for using our history just to antagonize his current team and make waves. There’s no reason to think there’s any sort of real reverence or respect behind his posts, he’s being a dickhead.

I get this. The culture thing is so important, so you would like to have guys with better judgement. Plus I really like the guys we have here already.

Zero percent chance. If so Aiyuk would actually be quiet about the connection. His actions are the greatest evidence that we AREN’T tampering bc it looks so bad lol

Has he had much chance to show up? I thought the 49ers canceled their OTAs.

Yep. Listening to Kiem this morning he said nothing about drops. He did pick out McCaffrey for having a good day. That said, a lot of drops for whatever reason: bad hands, bad route running, bad passes, bad concentration, etc. is not good especially on a team full of bubble quality players.
I heard Keim say that there was one bad WR day a week ago with drops and it was the backups to the backups. It sounds like it was one sensationalized take on that day's work. We are seeing a bit of that this time of the year.

I think he may be a headcase and am not sure I would want him as part of the team.

But JD5 seems like a very sharp guy. If he and Aiyuk really are close friends you know JD5 has told him all he needs to do is show up. If your agent, financial advisor, closest friends (who are also in the league)... are all telling you the simple step you need to make to get yourself out of the situation that you hate and you still are not smart enough or are too stubborn to do it, we shouldn't want him in the building.

Depending on Van Jefferson, a career journeyman that was out on the street and signed a vet min contract because nobody else wanted him at a premium nfl position... is not a viable option at #2. If thats really the current plan, we are in for world of hurt... no matter how much the FO tries to sell him as a real WR. As mush as i am souring on Aiyuk due to him being a complete idiot, he is almost a necessity at this point.

Or he’s just not interested in playing again for the 49ers. And he doesn’t mind walking away from the money because he’s already set for life with what he’s been paid previously. In the end, he’s going to get what he really wants… Out of San Fran, and playing in DC with Jayden, so is he really that dumb??

Because of the injury I never wanted Aiyuk except on the most team-friendly contract in the history of contracts. After this I don't want him at all. The headcase red flags are somewhere in the stratosphere at this point.

Not sure people need to be so up in arms about this. He’s not doing it just to antagonize his current team… He’s also trying to join our team. If he were ‘using’ our history in a derogatory way, it would be different, but that’s not the case.

To get what he wants, he has to show up and force the 49ers to choose to either pay him (which they don't want to do) or cut him (which they would rather do than pay him). If he doesn't show up, the 49ers will own his contract without needing to pay a penny, which is exactly what the 49ers want. The ball is in Aiyuk's court, and he is refusing to hit it. He really is that dumb.
