Covering the Commanders: Keim and Company Discussion

2026 GM rankings

24. Adam Peters, Commanders

Adam Peters went all in on 2025. He is currently at the lobby ATM getting ready to buy back in. That was a bust of a campaign. There is no way to sugarcoat it. It’s nice to have a young star quarterback, but you probably aren’t going to win the Super Bowl if you lack skill player depth, offensive line depth, backfield depth and high-end defensive talent. Commanders fans can only hope it was a painful but necessary lesson in NFL team-building. There are no shortcuts. That was felt most acutely during April’s draft, where last year’s deficit spending left the Commandos with only two top-100 selections, just one of which came in the top 70. That would be No. 7 overall pick Sonny Styles, a meat-and-potatoes addition that at least showed Peters was no longer under the impression he was one player away. That followed a free agency where he loaded up on regular defensive contributors. Back to basics, you could say. Humbling, but there’s nothing wrong with getting the message. If you’re going to put it all on the table, you better at least have the cards.

Bottom 3rd is about right for Peters.. all hype
The rank is fair to me, but saying he was "all in" last year doesn't make sense to me. "All in" to me is investing everything and not leaving a pile of cap space to the side for a rainy day.

Guys - this thread is about the media folks covering the team. It's not a place to post their content. We also have a GM thread so I don't know why we are posting about Peters in this thread.

Perhaps a more descriptive thread title would help? I can see how it could be taken otherwise without reading the OP.

I don't know about anyone else, but my favorite part of OTAs is seeing the incredibly dumb shit Lynell Willingham and Chris Russell make up to scream about.

Huh. I wonder why Konk is not included in the WIDE RECEIVER room...

It keeps upsetting me that Sainristil keeps getting snubbed. He's in none of the D-Line photos. Jones' defense is multiple, man!

Guys - why in the world are we talking about players and OTAs in the Commanders media thread?

The more I listen to nicki jhabvala the more I just don’t think she gets it.

She’s not off putting or anything. And I think she works hard, and honestly I give her tremendous credit and respect for being a well respected woman in a mostly male dominated field. That’s not easy and is really commendable.

But at the same time, I never find her reporting insightful, and she contradicts herself and I’m just not sure if she gets it. When she said “I’d never take a RB or Safety in the first wound except this year I’d take Downs because he’s the best player in the draft, I mean, whaaaa?

Ironically, I think the podcasts she does with Keim, they have a really great chemistry. She might have the best chemistry with him, in fact. They are a good listen. But they also are void of any interesting content.

I’m not sure it was reported why the Athletic parted ways with Standig and replaced him with her. But I find that a wild choice from a context perspective. He is a heck of a lot more thoughtful and provides some unique perspectives, and I’ve never found that from NJ.

I really wish the podcast guys would bring back Michael Phillips into a rotation. He was a fantastic podcast guest.

I don’t listen to the radio anymore, there isn’t a single host who I think raises the level of intelligence anymore on sports talk radio in DC. Is Phillips on any radio show ever?

I don’t like listening to either Standig or Nicki. Standig got replaced because Steinberg was Nicki’s boss at WP and he probably wanted his person.

Nicki is plugged in but I don’t like listening to het because she is dull and wishy washy. It feels like every sentence starts with “I don’t know.”

That’s right. I forgot Steinberg went over there.

I don’t know how plugged in Nikki is. She watches practice and reports on what she sees but I don’t recall her ever breaking anything.

I like Standig. I’m actually starting to like him more and more. I find his podcasts more interesting than Keim’s at this point. He brings up different ways to think about things which I appreciate.

And the ones which he does with Keim and Bram are probably the best of all of them outside of Galdi’s podcast.

This new org is more tight lipped, so not quite as friendly to beatreporters. I imagine none want to step out of their lane right now even when they know. That and there's also the possibility that while we are looking for juicy tidbits...maybe there actually aren't any to be found?

There have plenty of things that have been leaked that have proved to be true. It's just not the insane amount that happened under Rivera.

I don't think Peters even tells his cat what he's thinking.

So things like trades where it's essentially Peters doing it himself come out of nowhere.

Where there is other information that gets out, other people in the building might give suggestions on how they are feeling or thinking, and that can be inferred into what future moves might be.

There are a lot of people involved, from coaches to scouts, so there will be some information that is shared with beat reporters.

But what is pretty clear is they aren't saying things directly. And it's not the top guys. With one exception: they put out McLauren wanted crazy money last season. They wanted that out there, and they made sure it was.

Just off the top of my head, the idea that Daniels > Maye for that FO was very clear before that draft to the extent that I'd have been shocked if they took Maye.

Them really digging Quinn big time as a coaching candidate.

Some of their FA targets like Chig, Doubs, Pierce was out there.

Them loving Syles and would take him if he fell to 7, also out there.

Them still zoning in on O line in the 2025 draft even after the Tunsil trade was out there.

I know other things too, I just have to think about it some.

But some stuff was out of the blue including all three of their trades. Even with Rivera there is no way everything gets telegraphed in advanced.

But overall Peters is more tight lipped than most, no doubt.
