We've been complaining for years that we have no blue chip talent, its not surprising that other fans would notice it too, sucks but it is what it is.

Because of his sophomore year jayden is unfortunately now in the cj stroud/rg3 category, possible one year wonder, until he proves otherwise.

Beyond that we got nothing because of how bad rivera drafted, I know that excuse is fading but its still relevant, you simply cant whiff completely on your first round picks 4 years in a row and mostly whiff on all your others and not end up bereft of talent 3 to 7 years later, its inevitable.

This was a big ass hole peters was handed to dig out of, the jury is still out on whether he's the man for the job but I like a lot more of what he's done than Rivera not that the bar was very high.

National media just assumes Daniels will get hurt but Burrow will bounce back, no problem, despite the fact Burrow has missed 6 or more games in three of his six seasons in the leage. Meanwhile they ignore that Prescott has been injured and/or bad every other year. We are heading into a bad/injured Prescott year, if the pattern holds:

I think its more that burrow and dak have both had more than one year of production.
We've seen time and time again quarterbacks flash in the pan for one year and fade away but usually once they've had at least two solid years they have established themselves as franchise quarterbacks albeit sometimes with injury concerns like burrow.

Jaydens problem is two fold, one is the injury concerns and the second is only one year of production.

If he does what we all hope he will this year he can put at least half of that behind him.

Just quote the post instead of being passive aggressive. The entire point was to start a conversation about how far we’ve fallen in peoples’ estimations due to the injuries and down year, I thought people would find it interesting and engage. It’s not about idiot Cowboys fans being the arbiters of sanity.

Something I also brought up, agreed. Especially in regards to Burrow. We aren’t getting the “bounce back” benefit of the doubt from fans of other teams, which is an interesting conversation. I think SIP has posted on it as well before. But my theory was because most people on the outside don’t know what to think about our coaching staff changes, and without splashy offensive moves to point to, people are underestimating the improvement on D.

I absolutely love poking holes in narratives, agendas, and logical fallicies. I do it for a living. I am rather good at it. From what I've seen in the pre-season, we're-just-going-suck-again narratives:
1. All I see from the National media is Daniels will get hurt again--maybe I missed it, but very few mention Blough, at all. It's all very lazy analysis, while like you said, waving their hands over other QBs with longer injury history.
2. While we don't have any splashy moves on offense, the entire offseason was geared towards keep Jayden healthy. No, we did not get a big #2 receiver, not for lack of effort, but regardless, that's a hole. But what we did do, was give him a number of easy buttons--White, Ford, and Konk. I also think Sinnott is going to slot in here as a short, outlet type, and let him get YAC. We sorely missed Ekler after he went down. Our only real option was McNicols out of the backfield. Our OL is very good, despite what that dink Austin Mock thinks (I went back through previous predictions, and he's basically Rod Gardner. 50/50). I've pushed back on the idea we didn't surround Daniels with talent narrative in the Free Agent thread, that the offense is more than just wide receiver. However, the Free Agent thread has become a WR Position Discussion Only thread, and it was exhausting sifting through 5 pages of Brandon Aiyuk debate, so I just bowed out. Most National reporters only pay attention to the big signings and moves.
3. This time last year, the Seahawks were rated 17-19 range in most pre-season rankings, the Patriots were 23-25 range. The Darnold signing was roundly laughed at, as was the Demarcus Lawrence signing questioned. They didn't do much else than those two--so they were ignored. What did the Broncos do to surround Nix with "talent" last year? Great OL, signed Evan Engram and JK Dobbins, relied on young, unproven wideouts opposite Sutton, and shored up the defense. That should feel very familiar. They were ranked in the middle of the pack. PFF ranked their WRs 22nd and their RBs 28th. Those were three of the final four teams. So "expert" analysis this time of year is about as dependable as a 1-900 number that purports to have a fool proof system for picking Powerball numbers.

This is all fair, we may disagree on some of the details regarding FA/FO stuff but overall I agree with this in regards to our national media perception vs. actual improvement, different teams being graded with different rubrics on many fronts, etc.

I think there are two separate narratives, one may be more fair through two seasons and the other is not (both just my opinion) I think given JD5's size & frame and he had one healthy season and one season struggling to stay on the field, I find it pretty normal that the media might raise durability issues over the long term. Even if I personally feel they are jumping the gun on it based on only two seasons. The other narrative is the one I disagree with which is that outside the injuries themselves he was having a down year on the field. He was still most of the time (if not the entire time) the best player on the field at any given time as everyone else was dropping like flies. It seems like a portion of the media is conflating two separate narratives which is half to be expected because in the sports world it's largely all about what you accomplished the previous season that matters going into analysis & predictions for the upcoming season.

Not to pick nits, but Jayden got hurt in his rookie season too. He played through a significant rib injury (not easy to do for a QB btw - his toughness is something rarely talked about).

Sure was but I’m just glad it’s over with. Interesting viewing though it may be, I don’t want that kind of distraction (same for hard knocks) anywhere near the team, especially Jayden.

Goes to show the NFL is an entertainment - only a few steps above the WWE - and not a sports league. No Coach or player in their right mind wants that kind of distraction when working.

Every league does this now. F1 is gaining major popularity in America because of Drive To Survive, a show stitched together from camera following every racing team all season, drama and all. It’s really not that weird, these guys are used to cameras being in their peripheral all the time in this day and age. Every team also does their own behind-the-scenes filming to make video content for fans. Cameras in the war room, meeting rooms, etc. It’s a new age.

The near empty stadiums, the only noticeable attendance being traveling fans, the embarrassment at being seen wearing team gear. The team has to build its fandom from the ground up, and putting its most popular player in the spotlight is the way to do it.

Yep. Nothing would’ve been better for this fanbase than if we’d been the in-season Hard Knocks team during 2024
