(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

The D.C. homicide level was high throughout the 90s but never eclipsed Baltimore. The team was the Baltimore Bullets though 1973 before relocating.

Maybe instead of them thinking Bullets was offensive and influenced crime, maybe a big reason was how the name might have influenced the DC tourism image.
DC has always been a huge tourist spot of course, so certain influential people concerned & connected to that may have played a role in pressuring or coercing Abe.

Didn't DC, around that time, have the highest murder rate of any city in the US? I seem to recall that. If so, I don't think that name change was a surprise.

I don’t believe managing “perception” actually accomplished anything but leaving us with a worse name than Commanders.

I've never liked the all black uniforms but this looks cool.

I think it’s a subconscious thing as well with this particular version. For many years, a similar black alternate was an aftermarket purchase. In addition to just plain looking better…I think it also looks familiar in a way the others did not. The spear logo helmet is a substantial upgrade as well. The Washington football team 00 logo was an absolute embarrassment in my opinion, and then they doubled down on it by making it a permanent part of the rebrand in 2022. They should’ve just put a gold W on that helmet.

Every time I see a clip like this with our "fixed" branding, I have a sense of calm. I maybe crazy and dramatic - my wife tells me I am all the time - but the godawful uniforms we got stuck with by the WOS truly effected my enjoyment of watching my team.

Whether social media or actual in game moments, I could never truly enjoy fun stuff because of this nagging feeling deep down they were trying to erase MY franchise and foist upon me this weird expansion team with terrible fashion. It really was being a fan inside the uncanny valley.

I don't feel that way anymore. Obviously, it will never be the same as when I was younger, but that weird anxiety and undercurrent of revulsion is gone. Thank goodness for Harris and Co.

Arrived today exactly as advertised. Valued seller, great product. Will be a return customer. A++++ 😂

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”

The name aside…they look like our team again. The visual identity of the Washington football franchise has been preserved.

Has there been any indication on if the W spear logo is likely to be the primary logo moving forward? It sure seems to be more popular than just the plain W

From what I understand their freedom to change the primary logo occurs every 5 years. Next year is the 5th year. I think there is a good chance that the alt-logo or one like it becomes the primary next season.

I would love to see the spear and the feather Incorporated into our new logo

My sense is they will never use anything on the logo again that could be viewed as 'Native American'. I think they are correct to do that - having gone through and doubled-down on the new name, there is no reason to create controversy. That's why they've gone to such lengths to make even the spear anything but Native American.

Thanks, this is helpful. It seems like fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive on the W spear logo combination. The team was smart to roll it out this way. I agree that the generic spear is to avoid any Native American controversy and I understand it-just hope this becomes the primary logo next year

I think it's quite possible they go with the spear/W combo as the primary logo - I just don't think there will be any further changes that include NA imagery or symbols. If they had any intention of leaning into the previous imagery, they'd have made that a NA-themed spear. They know fans would prefer that. But they've clearly decided they are not going in that direction again and honestly, I'm glad.

And yet, there were still a number of the more vocal people on social media, including the usual activists, who seem to think that Native Americans have a trademark on spears. They still lambasted the franchise for the alt logo despite it being a Roman style spear,. Pretty much killed my flicker of a fool’s hope that we would ever see the most beautiful logo in sports return even on the rare throwback.

Change the alt logo to the permanent logo and move forward. The squeaky wheel won - this franchise will never have NA imagery again

After traveling all over the world I've come to the conclusion that some things in America are just fucked up. For example if Gladiator was about an American Indians? Some people here in the states would protest it. Some people are just too fucking sensitive. How come the XXXXXX community is not depicted in Gladiator?

Just for example? Look how Italy received Russell Crowe in Rome

Some people here in the states will protest about anything, it's just ridiculous. Easily offended and quick to ridicule. I know that is our rights in the Constitution and I fought to defend those rights, but sometimes I question this.
