The 2026 Free Agency Thread

But I think they will get cap space after June 1st once they release him. That is why people think that he will be released on June 2nd
They can cut him. But we have no indication that they actually want to. As far as I know, there isn't any cap hit now, which is why people were hoping he'd be cut by the 49ers and signed by the Commies in free agency. SF has declared that they expect a trade and will hold onto him until that happens. The open secret is that SF wants to punish him for not toeing the team line last season. So either a team pays his penance in trade value or he pays in the purgatory of being locked out by a team that owns his contract. I would not be shocked if they keep him until there's only 53 players on the team and they need his spot.

The only real deadline for SF is the September roster bonus of $25M.

They can hold onto him until then - and here's a guy that hasn't been on a football field that by that time will be almost 2 years.

What exactly are you going to count on him to do for us if and when we actually are able to sign him?

We saw what not participating in regular camp and preseason did for Terry McLaurin at the start of the season as he got off slowly and then was injured.

It only makes sense to acquire a #2 receiver in either the draft or via a trade during/after the draft and not count on Aiyuk.

If he happens to fall into our laps later on as a guy that can be a #3 for us on a one year deal that's fine.

But we can't be held hostage to the HOPE we can get something for nothing several months from now.

Well no team is going to trade for him and take that contract. He is due a roster bonus on September 1st so he will definitely be released by August 31st. The question is will they do so before then.

I still think that he gets released sooner because you don't want that distraction in camp and he might even start showing up just to be a distraction. We also have a great relationship with SF so I don't see them trying ruin that. Lastly again, they get some extra cap relief to spend if they so choose. I think that he is gone from sometime after the draft until early June

If we can take a receiver in the first round or move back and take on in the second round with down the field speed I would be in favor of bringing Deebo back a lot more than adding Aiyuk and having to deal with his divorce from SF.

This divorce is as ugly as anything you see on reality TV :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I get why the Niners are angry and want to get some revenge. But at some point they just come off as petty and the players around the league will notice that. Is it worth it to soil your reputation?

The 49ers are probably thinking they can sucker someone into giving up a pick in the HOPE that Aiyuk will be reasonable on a new contract.

And with 32 GM's in the NFL and some horrible teams like the Cardinals and Raiders being in the top 5-6 picks EVERY YEAR it seems the 49ers may be correct when all is said and done.

I must be missing something. If we take him in a trade would we assume a cap hit off his current contract if we cut him in training camp? If not we could offer a conditional 2027 7th round pick based on him making the roster this year.

If he won’t renegotiate to what we think he is worth this year or just doesn’t have much left we can just cut him before the first game. What would we lose?

Maybe Blough just doesn’t want him.

Explain it to me like I’m a dumbass. (Shouldn’t be hard)

Okay, now that Styles is the pick, we can expect announcement of Jajuan Jennings signing in next few minutes, right?

I hope AP is on the phone talking to everyone about potentially available receivers and what they want for them.

There are some options. Bring back Deebo. Get Aiyuk. Try to get Allen or Diggs.

CB is a bigger problem by comparison, I see no such options there.

They say this draft is good for WR and CB, so maybe we find a good one at 71.

People keep saying there are options.

But they have to choose us, too.

We already jettisoned Deebo, I'm not sure he is or isn't an option. Diggs has some legal stuff. Keenan Allen doesn't want to leave the Chargers (but may not have a choice).

I don't see many options for either spot right now. Our franchise QB needs help.

Our defense should be much improved even if our corners blow.

Yeah, I’m probably paying Jennings now.

Or calling around seeing which receivers are available for trade….
