Yeah, that's fair. I do think if they traded Payne, they would need another guy then to replace Settle if Settle took Payne's spot. Right now they have 4 projected interior "starting" rotation guys, Kinlaw, Settle, Payne and Newton. Assuming they run more 3-4 stuff, they'll have more DTs on the field because they'll use them as ends in the 3-4 looks at times with the edge rushers as OLB, though they'll move guys around a ton.Close enough. And the question wasn't whether Settle was better than Payne, the question is who replaces him. Payne plays mostly gap 3 on the left side. In this scheme he probably plays some nose and or 4-5. Settle can do it. Settle is a better player than he was here. One personnel guy actually thought he was Washington's best FA signing.
So they probably would need another guy. And I think Payne is better than Settle overall. Others might not think he's much better, I think he's a good step above Settle. Or at least, he was, I will concede I haven't seen Settle play for a while.
