Yeah, that's fair. I do think if they traded Payne, they would need another guy then to replace Settle if Settle took Payne's spot. Right now they have 4 projected interior "starting" rotation guys, Kinlaw, Settle, Payne and Newton. Assuming they run more 3-4 stuff, they'll have more DTs on the field because they'll use them as ends in the 3-4 looks at times with the edge rushers as OLB, though they'll move guys around a ton.

So they probably would need another guy. And I think Payne is better than Settle overall. Others might not think he's much better, I think he's a good step above Settle. Or at least, he was, I will concede I haven't seen Settle play for a while.

If we have are second next season should be considered depending on price. Cardinals may take less then usually.

There probably not a ton of teams looking to trade up. Cards could stomach a RT alot better at 7 then 3. Really depends on price.

Sainristil: A CB who had a really good rookie year but we don't know if he's an inside guy or an outside guy, and if he's an outside guy, he's size limited
Sinnott: A TE who can't replace Ertz
Coleman: A OT they want to convert to a guard and got benched last year
McCaffrey: A WR who hasn't developed into a clear role

If those guys had hit, we wouldn't be feeling like we do about the roster.

Some still may. At the moment, only 1.5 of them are projected to be starters: Sainristil and Newton (as part of the rotation, he's the .5)

That draft needs 4 starters to come out of that group and one of the starters to be better than replacement level.

We signed a bunch more guys to one year deals again to plug holes that these guys should be filling.

And the only way for us to come out of this draft with 4 starters is to trade back if good offers are there. But then we need to entrust them to have learned from their past mistakes or misjudgements to make the right picks. Hope we don't select players based on one coordinator or the HC liking them without the GM and his whole scout team agree
 
And if anyone doubted Sinnott’s future you can look no further than the signing of Okonkwo.

We don’t make that move if Sinnott is thought by Blough or Peters as being a 2026 contributor.

Let’s be honest have any of us watched him in the last two years really? He stopped existing for us but apparently has gotten better since he left, at least
 
But is Payne worth $27M?

You can have a solid player whose price tag is so much higher than his relative value that it makes more sense to trade him and let him work out a cap lowering extension with another team.
 
That’s a hope of production like the Aiyuk argument.

It’s not a sure thing to bank your season on.

This has been mentioned several times but the dead cap for Payne lowers his savings to a point where we couldn't get equivalent value in free agency.

If we could save 27 million cutting Payne he'd be ancient history by now.
 
We'd definitely have to move up to 3 to guarantee Love.

With so few picks this year, we'd probably have to give up something pretty high next year even though it's just 4 spots. A pretty high pick in a much better 2027 draft. What do we do if Dallas actually does offer both their 2026 firsts to get to 3? How do we beat that? 7 and 71 isn't enough.

I can’t believe the idea of getting Love would upset me but trading 2027 assets could very well do that 😆
 
I have to believe this is Peters (or Arizona) just trying to drive up the price for anyone that's thinking about moving ahead of Washington.
