I think Jordan Tyson is going to be a much better wide receiver over his career than Romeo Doubs.

The more I read about this kid the more I like him at #7.

I know that Brett Veach and Sean McVay seem to think highly of him and that's always a good sign.

The safe picks are Tate and Downs. They are absent serious injury going to be solid pros and likely Day 1 starters.

The question at least on Tate is whether he is going to ascend to being a #1 over time or whether he will struggle moving past the #2 role.

There are some questions about Downs' size/height in the backfield but that to me is a guy just being 95% of what you want instead of 99%.

Yep, but there is still value to a good #2. Every team needs on. Heck, for years, we had on an ongoing debate whether Terry was a true #1. So, Tate looks to fill a needed hole. The scary thing about Tyson is you don't know how much field time he'll see. Now, I remember Jonathan Allen falling to us because people thought he was an injury risk and he was more than solid for 7 seasons and rarely missed a snap. So, if you think the Tyson injury issue is BS then he is worth taking. If you think he's one of those guys who will always be nicked or out then you just can't take the risk on him especially at such a position of need.

I think Veatch may take Tyson at #9 if he is still there.

KC getting that second #1 pick from the Rams means they can go OT at #29.

I guess this is where I disagree.

I was in some form of professional services for 25 years, and I did a ton of sales. Pretty successfully on the whole. I built 2 practices from scratch at different firms and one was a $10m/year business that started at 0.

And I lost as many competitive opportunities as I won. And I guarantee you it wasn’t for lack of desire or effort.

Sometimes you do everything right and win. Sometimes you do everything rights and lose.

And even if you’re pretty good, you lose.

And granted, I was selling different types of services than trying to sign a football player. But I think there are similarities.

So I look at it a little differently. It’s unfortunate they lost. But I was more miffed last year when they didn’t try. Trading for Deebo was aggressive, and I appreciated that. But that’s basically they did.

I wanted them to do more than re-sign Noah Brown.

I’m less frustrated this year because we know they gave extremely good effort.

Now if you believe it’s because of the coaching staff, I can’t debate that.

But there’s no evidence to suggest it’s true. You have a valid theory but not proof.

I can see how you could reach the theory.

Galdi had an Indy reporter on and he said he wanted the Colts to assure him Daniel Jones would be back and just wanted to stay there because he was comfortable. I don’t know if that report is true. But I also don’t know that it isn’t true.

So I guess while I’m disappointed in the results of this off season, I do give them credit for trying. And I do think there are negative effects to your team short and long term if you behave fiscally irresponsibly.

One thing you don’t want to do is panic and do something stupid, like over (or in my case under) bid an opportunity, or chasing on opportunity which isn’t a core offering, or is the wrong client profile, or something like that.

A couple times in my career we had some rough times. 2008/2009, 2015, 2020 come to mind. Really bad years. We had to do layoffs and shrink the business.

However I learned quickly that if you panic and do something outside of your normal process (assuming the track record is good and you are being honest with yourself about why you lost) you’re going to do more harm than good.

I’ve seen companies panic and do stupid stuff and it’s almost never worked out for them.

So my opinion, and I’m absolutely fine if others have a different opinion, but I do give credit for trying, and then not panicking.

Flip side, they have to land a player eventually. If you just rack up losses, even if you are doing the right things, you might run out of time and get fired.

EDIT to say I got out of client delivery and sales in mid 2024. And just recounting all of this makes me wonder how I lived that life for 25 years. It’s a stressful (though lucrative if you’re successful) life.

I do give them credit for their approach offensively this off season. The results are not there. But I liked the approach.

I didn’t last season.

I work in BD for a government contractor--I've worked for all kinds of companies, for almost 20 years. Companies with good processes wait for right opportunities and don't chase after low p-win opportunities because they lost. I've worked for companies that do the opposite and they're generally a disaster

I question what we did and didn’t do.

And I can’t be sure…

But did we talk to Shaheed? Have we inquired on BTJ? No shot but I hope we called Philly about AJ Brown (again, no shot. But due diligence matters). What about Nailor? Why did we let Deebo walk? What about Wandale, Kirk and Mooney?

Did we turn every rock?

My guess, and I freely admit it’s a guess, is we didn’t. We put our eggs in a couple baskets and failed and said, “oh well, receiver by committee sounds amazing!”

And I hate it.

And I’d love to be giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I just can’t. They have proven time and time again that they fail at this position. And they love throwing everything at one solution (Ben Johnson vs. Macdonald).

I have a sinking feeling they are really banking on Aiyuk at some point.

And like I’ve said I’m willing to let it play out - but I see passive and uninterested other than a few shots at guys.

And then I want to know why we were turned down.

Is it coaching stability and an offensive staff that combined has not many years experience?

I have a feeling that plays a role.

Is it that Quinn may be gone? I have a feeling that plays a role.

My frustration is not based on a single event. It’s the totality of the way this FO has operated.

I’d love a draft weekend and following week where they fill me with confidence.

I’m pretty happy with the defense as is. We need to continue to improve but I think we’ve thrown a ton of eggs in that basket.

I hear ya, but I also think he was just genuinely bad. When Quinn took over, the D instantly improved. It wasn't great, but it may have risen to below average.
