(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

When it comes to the helmet colours, I remember when I bought my Alfa Romeo back in 2004. When I ordered it, they asked me what colour I wanted. I was like, Red. Durrr.

Alfa's and Ferraris. Yes, you can get them in other colours, but are they REALLY right if they aren't in red?

I feel the same about the Redskins. Yes, they've playing in a yellow helmet. And yes, they've played in a black helmet.

But if that helmet ain't burgundy, then it ain't really the Redskins (or Commanders! LOL)

The Commanders' helmets always felt off to me, without the yellow facemask and the stripes. I understand the logo had to change, but the colours never truly felt right. Now they do.
I even like the new spear logo. I get the argument for the 'taco holder' not working logically, but again, that's if you take a 2D logo and put it in 3D terms. In truth, the logo is just 4 lines. HAve we seen a 3D version at any point that actually shows it as 4 overlapping lines, where one is behind the other? Have we ever been told that?

I googled (briefly albeit) and I can't find any 3D representation of the logo that shows the lines overlapping. It looks like this...

It's just flat. Four Geometric shapes stacked. I've always been of the opinion it was created to look more like a rank symbol. to go with our new military theme. A version of this created as a W.
Like these...

That was always my personal takeaway.
And when treated as a 2D logo in that respect, there's nothing wrong with the spear placement really.

I'm fine with other people having their opinions on it, but this is just my view.

I hate the yellow helmet with the R. Even though that was my first piece of collectors gear.

I absolutely can't stand the mustard yellow on anything

I ran into a stranger at BJ’s tonight and he was already sporting the Arrow logo hat. I told him I will be buying mine soon. He mentioned he bought the jersey also.

The black hat with the W and arrow is already no where to be found...

I’m counting on it being at the stadium store when we go to the draft day party Thursday night. Quite honestly, I don’t mind waiting if other people are buying them up.

Have at it brothers and sisters

My biggest surprise with the new look is how universally liked the response has been. Sans a very few who will approve of nothing that doesn’t include the Redskins logo on the helmet, it’s been widely and positively accepted. I didn’t think that was possible.

I think it's really encouraging the way they're approaching this transition. We have real professionals in charge now, ladies and gents, and it feels damn good. Now if I could somehow get ol' Tuddy down to the Smithfield plant. Anybody have some rope?

I went back to the beginning of this thread and read the first 10 pages again just to see where our heads were at a year ago. A lot of our suggestions definitely made it into 2.0, which is pretty cool.

I think it shows however they came to the decisions they did on the redesign they paid legitimate attention to what the longtime fans wanted to see. Very encouraging.

^ Tuddy with the fat rendered out…

Was Tuddy in the new uniform video?

If not, then that's a sign they may be sending that porker to the slaughterhouse. It's the worst NFL "mascot" by far, and also reeks of the Stench of Snyder And Jason Wright.

Now that I think about it...why in the world did a team called the COMMANDERS (Navy rank) adopt a mascot who is clearly one step lower in MAJOR (Army/AF/USMC rank)...one is an O-5, the other O-4. (Yes, I realize that a MAJ can also be the 'commander' of a unit, but that's not the point...most majors are staff officers anyway.)

Maybe it was just another one of Jason Wright's failures?

No, the had a separate video of him with the new uniforms, and him wearing the Black alternate. I believe it was on X but i can't find it now.

Yeah, Major Tuddy has his faults, including his name and the World War I type helmet. However, I cannot say he is much worse, if at all, then some of the other NFL mascots, Sir Purr in Carolina, the stupid Trash Panda in KC, oh wait, that damn thing is a wolf? It really, really, looks like a racoon. Apparently the Titans have a racoon, as that makes so much sense with that nickname. Sourdough Sam in San Fran. Poe in Baltimore, at least the name is good. Steely McBeam, straight out of the Money for Nothing video in Pittsburgh.

So, yeah, we are probably not the market they are targeting with Major Tuddy, so, what say you slap bet commissioner? I'll allow it.

I personally don't hate MAJ Tuddy because he is geared toward the young kids. But to your point - the rank thing is just another example of how disjointed and poorly thought-out/researched the name and everything about it was.

I hate Tuddy because it sounds like something my pet would leave on the floor for me to clean up when he wakes me at 5 AM. I don't know how I make that association, but I can't blot it out.

So, a Major Tuddy would be if your pet got into a can of Hormel chili.

I'm kind of surprised MAjor Tuddy hasn't had an overhaul.

They've been pretty clear with the spear about leaning away from the NAtive American imagery and into the Roman gladiator type imagery. And yet, Major Tuddy is still dressed like a soldier, sitting in neither camp.
