The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I just skimmed through it but at 19:20, they are talking about Love and some Commanders stuff

Delane playing at LSU and the new Defensive coaches connection to LSU. There is to much smoke to think they are not taking him. It will be him, if love is not there

It will be interesting if only Tate and Delane are there. I'm going to feel conflicted. Delane is probably the better long term choice, but the cupboard feels soooooo empty at receiver.

Unless the smoke is there to entice NO or KC to trade up?

Trading down to no later than 9 and having a pick of Tate or Downs seems ideal.

I think I I was the only one on Delane back on the other thread.

Haven’t changed my mind.

The good thing is if they take either of them, they both fill the major two roster holes and are top 10 players in this years draft. Both should have a large impact in 2026

The Wr position there is going to be a hole. They will get a vet Wr Diggs, Hill, Ayack for the season. They could be usable. CB is harder to fill. There are not many CB FA that are playable. The best one out there is T Diggs and he not good anymore.

Yeah it seems like Delane at NO at 8 is a hot one.

I listened to Schefter on this team he thinks Love, Delane, Tate, Downs, didn't really land on one for sure but added a how can they pass on Downs comment but that sounded like his thought versus what he's hearing.

I don't think he mentioned Styles unless I missed it. Maybe because he seems to think Styles has a good shot going to Tennesse. He doubled down on Klatt's point that the Giants could take Reese or Bailey if they fall.

The one guy actually who is good at guessing is Peter Schrager. He really works the phone but I don't think he does his last mock until the day of or before.

Yeah Schrager and Allbright both have good night-before mocks typically. Schrager may be less plugged in here now that his best bud Kliff is gone, but I’m sure he still hears things, and now he’s got no reason not to divulge them.

I still think safety is a greater need on this team at present that cornerback.

So much goes into success against the pass including a consistent rush up front and matching player to scheme/position.

We wasted time putting Sainristil inside to try and validate our pre-draft plans for him and now he is finally going to get a chance I think on the outside as a regular.

We do need to sign another corner but I am not taking a corner in the top 10 if I am the GM.

I would be very disappointed if Downs is there at 7 and they select Delane. I hate that this is such a poor QB draft. Without 2 or 3 QBs expected to go in the top 10, a ton of non-QB talent is going to go early. Sucks for us.

Exact opposite for me.

If it ends up being Delane at 7 (or anyone other than Tate really) there’s no way we can just sit at 71 and hope a WR we like falls to us. The risk is too great that we end up getting sniped by another team with similar needs. Especially since our need is so glaring that someone could easily jump in front of us.

We’ll need to trade up into the end of the 2nd, or at least a few picks higher in the 3rd. Really annoying. Can’t see another way to keep from getting cock-blocked at WR unless we love someone unconventional and are fine really reaching on them at 71.

It's hard to be certain of what the new scheme will completely be. That said I am with you, would rather have a FS like Thieneman. The next best is a solid top cover corner good in zone, press and man and attacks downhill and tackles

So… Delane

I know we tend to be fixated on BPA, but how sure are we that we need to draft a CB? Sainristil seems to be better outside than in the slot - so what do you do with him if Delane is the pick? I know he had a rough 2026 but are we ready to make him a sub already?

If the idea is this is a SB potential season especially.

The two spots IMO that can derail it: WR and CB.

So while Delane isn't my top want at 7 -- taking him makes all the logic in the world to me.

If everything breaks right, CB can be fine. But if it doesn't that spot can easily be a disaster -- let alone it reminds me of WR last season in that there is zero depth and in turn they are one injury away from name that dude off the street starting for this team.

While I like the job Peters has done in FA -- he has low key left two spots on this team WR and CB that can easily derail the season similar to last year. So Peters not doubling down on that approach makes plenty of sense to me.

We need a CB. We need a FS. We need 4 receivers. We need a high end back. We need a C. We need a LG. We need another LB.

I’d take Witherspoon over Sainristil and Amos. That’s Delane’s game and style.

Would I take a corner over a receiver? Man, tough question. Perfect world, yes. In this case I think Delane is the best defensive player in this draft class. But we have failed Jayden in every way and there is absolutely no guarantee a veteran signs here. We cannot go into the season with Terry and Dyami as our starters.

I sure wouldn’t take Downs - I don’t think he’s as good as Delane as an all arounder at his position, and he doesn’t fit a need for us at all, really. I like the player, he just isn’t a great fit.

Trading back is dangerous. It takes you out of play for the best players.

If it’s Tate or Delane I go Tate because we have failed the guy we need to keep happy time and time again.

I wouldn’t be mad at Delane. I think he’s a better player. So I’d be excited.

I’d be even more excited if we traded 71, for a few picks and could package a pick or two and Payne for Brian Thomas, Jr.
