The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

What are you hearing on the

Raanan: In an ideal world, the Giants would like to move back a few spots, add more picks (they have just two in the top 100) and draft a player like Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. But that's easier said than done.

Staying at No. 5, the three players who seem to be most squarely on their radar are Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles and Downs. Coach John Harbaugh and the Giants are especially high on Love. If he's available, it's hard to see them passing up that opportunity. Guard, defensive tackle or cornerback are likely targets on Day 2.

How many draft-day trades will there be in Round 1?

Reid: Five. I think we're in for an exciting first round, but teams will remain cautious about giving up early draft capital for 2027. It always takes two teams to tango, though sources are telling me the Cardinals (No. 3) and Browns (No. 6) both want to move back in the top 10 itself.

Yates: Six. We've seen at least five draft-day trades involving first-round picks in each of the past three drafts. Identifying specific teams that will aim to be active is no easy chore, but there is plenty of reason to believe that the same amount of activity will continue this year.

Miller: Eight. The flat nature of this draft class might make people think there will be fewer trades, but teams I've spoken to expect activity due to the fact that there are so few blue-chip-caliber prospects. Like Jordan, I heard from a GM that there could be two trades in the top 10 picks alone. The Cowboys (No. 12) and Jets (No. 16) are two teams to watch in terms of moving up, as teams picking in the teens would like to snag the highly rated players before they're off the board.

Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State

Ceiling: No. 14 | Floor: No. 33

Miller: Tyson's tape is top-15 caliber when he's on the field, but the best ability is availability. He missed 17 of the possible 51 games he could have played in; he also missed the spring program for the Sun Devils last year. Tyson's most recent injury was to a hamstring, which caused him to sit out of three games in 2025.

Teams will have varying levels of acceptance with injuries, but Tyson's range is all over the place because of that -- and eight drops in the 2024 season haven't helped his stock either. He could come off the board as early as No. 8 to the Saints or slip to the Jets at No. 33 if those injury concerns prove valid.

I’m super torn on Lemon, mainly because of the interview stuff, and to a lesser extent, because he may be a slot only. He’d (presumably) be on the field less than a Z, and we at least have some guys that can sort of play in the slot.

As a player though, particularly in our situation, I’m just not sure I care so much about the idea that his perceived value is more like 11 than 7 or whatever. I’d much rather take a gamble on a guy that is good at route running/separating, YAC, contested catches and blocking, but needs work on defeating press, than trying to teach a guy who’s taller, faster, stronger those ^ things.

And if he does figure out how to defeat press, I think it’s quite possible he could then be an asset on the outside as well, depending on formation.

So, I'll have more on this later, but I just listened to Keim's podcast. And I listened to the Tate part twice. I actually came away with a different read of what he said regarding Tate.

Based on what he said, I think Tate is completely in play. I'll describe why later, I'm in the middle of working and in meetings.

The key phrase was at the end of the section when he said there were only 2 offensive players who were in play for Washington at 7, Love and Tate.

When he talked about the WRs with a trade down, he specifically mentioned Lemon.

I'll put in more specifics when I'm off of work.

I listened to it twice, and lol just now a third time.

Love and Tate are the only two offensive players who would be in consideration for "him" at 7 -- yeah, of course. So you seem to be hanging on to that point. But I didn't take that as a key point, that's him stating the obvious.

To quote him on the podcast " As to Carnell Tate at 7 "honestly, I don't think that's where they would go." And then talked about some of his flaws. Talked about their need for a WR, then goes "you don't just take him because you need him...that's not the way to go. Then he gives a counter point, if you are sold, then that's different. That lol, doesn't feel like he thinks they are hot for Tate at 7 but its still possible albiet unlikely they take him if you factor his other points including other podcasts.

When I talk about decoding Keim speak, and lol I risk being made fun of responding to you on this point -- its how he talks. He doesn't report stuff generally, he gives hints but doesn't typically hit them hard. Saying honestly I don't think that's where they would go -- in Keim terms is pretty hard.

He also goes you can possibly trade back and get Tate, or Lemon, or Tyson. Those are the three mentions in a trade back.

None of this is inconsistent with anything I've said in the last day or two, piecing together different Keim podcasts and the article on ESPN from a week ago

Tier 1: Love, Styles, Delane
Tier 2: Tate, Downs, Bain (maybe Tyson-Lemon)

if they trade down a little that Tier 2 is in play. If Love, Styles and Delane are gone, tier 2 in play at 7.

Does it make it gospel? Nope. But some of it overlaps national insider takes. And Keim's nuggets are generally at least in the ballpark correct. Will see. Also sometimes info-gossip shifts the week of the draft so I'd feel much more comfortable riding with theories whether its Keim, Schefter or whomever next week versus this one.

I'm honestly not overly concerned. I still think that Aiyuk is coming, probably by early June and we still have some solid other options. I also still think that Jennings is in play for maybe close to the amount that he wants but only for one year. We still have enough cap space for that, I think

That’s the homer in you talking. Nothing wrong with that, but this is a code red situation. They “could” do a lot of things, but haven’t. You’re living on hope that they make multiple moves, from a shrinking pool of options, before the season starts. They could do that. But there’s every chance it doesn’t work out that way and I’m sorry, but I don’t fuck with that as a franchise philosophy. This will be Jayden Daniels third year in the NFL. If they continue to not build around him and support his quest to become our franchise guy, I want this regime gone.

Exiting this draft without a weapon for Daniels cranks up the odds that we experience a disaster again on offense, and that we’re starting over again next offseason. And hey, I’m not even saying I’d be upset about that, big picture, to be truthful…if we weren’t wasting away critical QB rookie contract years while we flail, and losing the the confidence of our guy in the org.

If they make the moves you propose as likely options from the dwindling pool of talent in front of them, AND those moves pan out, great. We can scrape together a group of weapons for our blue chip QB under a rookie playcaller. That’s best case scenario? Not very inspirational.

I truly have no idea what we’re doing as a whole offensively. It’s kind of a disaster.

Defense? Yeah. I’m on board so far.

Thankfully the offense will be led by a really experienced playcaller to pull all the underwhelming, disparate pieces together around our QB and make sure everyone’s pulling in the same direction in a proven scheme

wait

Perhaps the offense will be led by a playcaller that will put all of the current pieces plus future additions together around our QB and make sure everyone’s pulling in the same direction?

I want Love or Tate, but think Bain is going to dominate in the NFL.

Love me some Bain!!! ❤️

Maybe but I just feel like there is no way they are blind and crazy. They know what happened last year. They know they let Jayden down. That's why they went for Pierce and Doubs. They aren't going to just so oh well, we tried. There is no way that happens imo.

They are waiting for the draft. If no WR then we will sign some solid vets or get Jennings on a one year, or even a trade. I also feel like they already know what is going on with Aiyuk. SF won't do AP bad.

It's not going to August. We may not end up with the best of the best but there is no way they are leaving Jayden and the team hanging again. It literally goes against everything they've said and what we all know. Fans are crazy if they think that this will be our guys to start the session

Draftniks are all over the place on Tyson. Tyson started hot. Then got frigid cold. Now hot again. I hope they are right, it would be a boon if he went top 6 but am not expecting it.

With the disclaimer of course that no one knows for sure as to what team is doing what. But I do trust some of the more plugged in reporters: Schefter, Breer, Schrager as to guesses. Locally just Keim.

Just watched a video from Breer on the draft. Here's what he's hearing:

Jets -- Bailey
Cardinals -- Reese or Love
Titans -- Reese if he falls, Styles or Love
Giants -- harder read. Styles, or Mauigoa or Tate or Tyson. Hearing a little but not much about Downs with them
Browns -- O line or WR
Washington -- Love or Styles

Here's as close to I can come to a word for word translation of Keim speak because he really stutters and stumbles a lot. Not easy to translate. And I can only type so fast so accurately, and I didn't have 2 devices where I could use talk to text. So here goes, this is the section on Tate basically word for word:

"Canell Tate at 7, he would make sense. Honestly, I don't think that's where they would go. But if they went there, clearly it would make sense, because you need a guy, I know he ran a 4.53, but he has good size, great tracking ability, very good route runner, very strong hands.

The question I would have for him, and I talked about this with Logan, is getting off the line of scrimmage, consistently against press coverage. Did we see that enough in college, 'cause if you're going to be a #1, you're going to have to do that in the NFL. And if you want to elevate him to a #1 because of McLaurin's contract IF something happens, then you better be able to do that.

I think he can help you. But is it going at #7, well in this case you're going to take a receiver because you need a guy.

I'm going to contradict myself here.

You don't just take him because you need him. You take him because you like him, you love him more than anybody else. Because there are guys there that if you don't love the guy, you're not taking the receiver because oh, we need a #2, so we gotta take him, that's not the way to go. Take the guy you think can make the biggest impact. As Adam Peters said, "impact now, impact down the road." So, but if you think Carnell Tate, you think he can do that, you take him. (lots of stumbling). Because he is the best player available at a position of need if that's how you view it.

It's also possible you could trade back a few spots and get POTENTIALLY either him or one of the other receivers, either him or Lemon, Jordan Tyson, [stuff about other receivers]. But there is an absolute need for a receiver, so if you go there at 7, and that's your guy, then you take him, and say good, problem solved. And then if you sign Aiyuk, now you're even stronger. "
** Translation stopped at the 6:12 left to go mark of the podcast.

That's the full quote.

I bolded pieces of the quote which I find significantly relevant.

I get that he started the segment with "Honestly, I don't think that's where they would go." HOWEVER, I'd also like to point out, he said, "I'm going to contradict myself." And then started talking about why they might take Tate. He literally, in a 2 minute span said "I don't think that's where they would go." and "I'm going to contradict myself." So he said BOTH he thought it was unlikely AND gave the case for why they might take Tate. Which is, for the record, EXACTLY what he should do. He's covering both sides of the discussion. Kudos to him.

At the end he said there were only 2 offensive prospects, Love and Tate. Clearly he feels (and I think literally every other scout/reporter/Schefter, literally everybody has said this) Love is higher on their board than Tate, and he might be the #1 prospect on their board, who knows.

And I say none of this to slam Keim. I found it to be a really good listen. And I've been reading and listening to Keim for probably 20+ years. I kindof know his style also.

I think in this case, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you want to read the first "Honestly, I don't think they would go that way" in terms of he's heard something definitive, I have literally no issue with that at all.

If you want to read it as he just presented both sides of the argument and gave his personal opinion, unverified by the team (that's my read), then that's fine too.

I personally don't think that segment really indicated what the team thought, either way. If he sortof knew or had a strong feeling on what they were going to do, I don't think he would have added the "I'm going to contradict myself" and then all of the reasons why they would take Tate.

My $.02. I think you can read this any way you want to.

My read is Tate is absolutely still in play depending on what happens above them. But certainly not a sure thing. And if Styles or Delane are there, maybe they pick one and not Tate. Or, maybe not.

And I don't think Keim was trying to be "right" in this case. And I think at the end, regardless of the way they go, if you listen to that segment, I could make an argument he was "right" whether they end up taking Tate or not taking Tate. Which is totally fine.

Draftniks are all over the place on Tyson. Tyson started hot. Then got frigid cold. Now hot again. I hope they are right, it would be a boon if he went top 6 but am not expecting it.

That's why I've been his biggest supporter. I don't believe the acl or collarbone are chronic. Just freak accidents and unlike McCoy, we've seen Tyson dominate after. We've seen a million people get hammys and they are tricky. To me those things don't prove that he will constantly be injured. I honestly wouldn't mind taking him, especially if we can get more picks. A great compliment to Terry

ok so Peters didn't go but Schoen went from NY.

It would be a godsend if the Giants take Tyson at 5. I doubt they do.

It's not that I don't like Tyson. I disagree with those who think he's some elite player if only for the injuries. I think he's a very good player but if only for the injuries -- love the twitch and short area quickness -- but don't like his physicality whether its on contested catches or YAC. I think he likely ends up a good player, not great, but banged up often and that goes double if he plays on NY's awful turf.

The only problem with that is there is a really good chance neither Love or Styles is there, even by what he's hearing.

I think Tate is going to Cleveland, FWIW. Why? He went to Ohio State and the Browns need extra juice and that's the type of move an organization like the Browns makes. Like us for 30 years with Snyder.

My least favorite scenario (that I keep hearing in mocks) is Giant sticks and picks, Dallas trades up ahead of us and picks, and we trade back for someone that's in the second tier of players.

How much do you want to bet if Styles or Delane is there they take Tate? I say they don't take Tate in that scenario. You see they do, lol give me the odds -- 50-50?

He said WR is a need, and there a a good reason to go for him for that reason and then he said he will contradict himsef and got into you can't take a player based on need. Then goes on to you explain the pros and cons of the player. His point about contradicting himself ironically furthers his point about why you don't take him. But that was his opinion part of the process. That part doesn't help your argument, it hurts. But even if we pretended it did help, he gives some of his opinion about what he's heard about those players, its just part of what he does in his podcasts.

In a recent podcast, he said they'd go Delane over Downs. But still talked about Downs and his attributes and why he would make sense. But yeah the takeaway is what he's hearing the team does. Your takeway I gather would be ignore the Delane stuff, lets focus on the meaning of how much he talked about how Downs can help the team. I get the logic but nope that wouldn't be the takeaway.

Not only do I listen to every Keim podcast but I did two fan zooms with him where lol he explained exactly how to pull nuggets from his podcast. I was trained by the man himself. :)

My least favorite scenario (that I keep hearing in mocks) is Giant sticks and picks, Dallas trades up ahead of us and picks, and we trade back for someone that's in the second tier of players.
My favorite scenario is that Browns forget they have only 8 minutes on the clock and forget to turn in their card (which would be a very Browns thing to do) and we pick at 6 except nobody sees it because ESPN cuts to commercial.

What would be really nice is if they forgot to turn in their card, we could essentially take their place and trade the rest of their picks to us for Emanuel Forbes. They probably wouldn't notice he's no longer on the team

I don't, because I consider it even odds. Why would I bet with even odds?
