The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Thanks, SIP. After I responded to you, I found this that you posted to KDawg: Styles and Delane over Downs. Well, most are hoping Love is there and he's the pick as I am. If Love it not there, then Styles or Delane. I am dumbfounded on why they don't like Downs. Maybe they know or they're not taking a chance on the red flag medicals that came up.

The red flag medicals were a false alarm -- disproven for Downs.

I don't get the sense that they don't like Downs. But its that they like some players better at that spot, I get that.

That's where I did myself as well.

I have Delane graded hire but think I'd take Tate. The reason sucks, biggest need and less chance of filling the void well for WR2 with WR1 potential through FA or at 71.

If they are going need and as I mentioned I suspect its heavy in their decision making despite their protestations otherwise -- CB trumps WR as a need mainly because you still have Aiyuk and Jennings as possibilities and arguably WR is slightly deeper than CB in this draft.

Can you imagine if Amos is banged up again. We got Sainristil on one side, the discarded 30 something year old backup corner from the Rams on the other side, and a small corner at slot who PFF ranked almost dead last in coverage last year.

Don't get me wrong, if Terry gets banged uo, Dyami at X, Van Jefferson at Z, McCaffrey at Y looks comically bad on paper. But if they secure Aiyuk and draft a WR at 3rd, not quite so bad.

I don’t think you can look at Aiyuk as a lock. Even if he is, if he doesn’t come in until August/September he’s essentially going to be a wasted first half of the season.

I am sticking with my comments.

I don't want to put trust in Aiyuk who hasn't played in a long time and coming in late and off a big injury. I also don't trust that Jennings would sign unless AP really upped the ante which he seemed to refuse prior.

I do see numerous DB's at 71 that could help and there should be some in FA.

They can't afford to go two years without fixing WR which has the look of a mothy patchwork quilt right now

He's definitely not a lock. But at least its something.

As much as some applaud Peters FA this year, and I like it too he's sneakily flirting with the same mistake as last year and that is leaving two weaknesses that look bad as is but will be abysmal if they suffer one key injury. And as we know injuries are inevitable just about.

The other thing Peters is flirting with is going three years in a row with making his QB make lemonade with lemons. Which is the opposite of how the other 2024 GMs have treated the QBs they drafted that year.

There is still time to fix it. But this draft feels code red to some extent.

Like you, I love J. Love and I think he would in one fell swoop fix this offense from being a one man band to something much more powerful.

I've probably led the chorus on attacking Peters at WR and took some arrows here from some who strongly disagree with me.

So don't get me wrong its not me warming up to anything they've done at WR, i think potentially this is the worst lineup of all of the pathetic groupings Peters put together. But I see some help potentiallly. I don't see any impact CB on the street.

As for what CBs are still there in the third round? Hard call. They tend to go earlier than expected. Everette, Muhmmad, Neal?

Maybe this is the simpler way for me to say it

Delane I think is a better player fhan Tate. And I am one of the bigger Tate guys here. I think the needs are close between the two. Could you argue WR is even a bigger need? Maybe. But I think they are about equally pathetic at both spots.

I am not sold on Peters. I think this offseason has been overall solid. But I think last offseason did so much damage that solid may not be good enough.

I don’t think Aiyuk should count as anything right now. And I think we can do roughly the same thing at corner as we can at receiver. I also think our corner situation is better due to potential with Amos and Sainristil than our receiver situation.

But both are bad.

Toss the coin.

I think there are guys that are third rounders that can be immediate contributors to this roster, too, at both positions. Though, to your point… I think there are guys at 71 who can be literal starting receivers for us.

So if that is the thought and plan, that’s great.

It is a real shame one of the two positions wasn't completed.

There are so many positions that do not feel complete, may needing more help.

All that yet they did great in FA. Shows how weak the roster was and how so many one year deals just create more work every off season

I am unsure about Peters. Will see.

As to WR-CB, I get the argument either way. And I think but don't know they understand they got work to do at WR and CB especially.

They've met with a lot of WRs, not as many CBs but still plenty.

If its not Tate at 7, which is possible. Then what? You got a third round WR. Aiyuk or Diggs or Jennings unless am forgetting someone.

It would be beneficial if we knew what sort of D we will be playing moreso in the secondary.

Minnesota didn't invest heavy in CB, but they did at Safety. Using that rational Downs makes a ton of sense at 7 over Delane.

You're not thinking long term/big picture.

Every free agent every year was once draft eligible, they'll remember the teams that create a positive environment and the ones who treat them like commodities instead of humans.
And then they sign with the team who makes the biggest offer anyway. If this were true the F- Redskins would have not signed many free agents, as it was they signed a ton based entirely on the $$$$.

I've made in the past similar points. But, if Keim is right as to what he said in a recent podcast (ditto Pauline) the team doesn't see it that way.

If we cant get CB and WR help with are picks any shot they sign the Diggs brothers to one year deals? Or possibly T. Hill if health?
We have some cap room obviously, you want to keep as much as possibly but we are short on picks.

They are probably washed but with the shortage of pick they could probably help this season.

Its not an absolute either way its a Grey area.

If your facilities and atmosphere suck you always pay the most and sometimes lose out even with the highest bid and if you have world class facilities and are known to treat your players well you will sometimes get players to play for a little less and can win a bidding war with a team that submits an equal bid.

It’s a tricky call IMO.

I have safety just behind corner in terms of need. Setting aside Amos and Cross (quality starters), Sainristil and Robertson are pretty big question marks, whereas Harris and Reaves are at least ok and Quan has some potential to turn it around. To your point though, how much will the scheme protect our corners?

My sense is Delane has a higher ceiling than Downs, but Downs brings the leadership and savvy that I haven’t heard attributed to Delane.

Next year though, with Harris, Quan and Owens all being FAs and Amos/Sainristil/Robertson still in the fold, safety becomes a significantly higher need… though that could change if Sainristil and/or Robertson play poorly this year.

One week away, fellas. Also it's when you start hearing some real stuff, not just rumors. I also wonder how many key representatives will show up to Tyson's workout tomorrow, in Arizona, this close to the draft that's in Pittsburgh, and if he will be tired from traveling all the way to DC from Arizona and back for a major workout

I've digested a lot on Tyson. As some of the draft insiders said he's a polarizing prospect, beyond just injuries, some really digging him, and some thinking he's a late first-2nd round prospect not top tier. So its eye of the beholder with him.
