The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Trotter can’t cover for shit but I love him 😆
Yeah he is he kind of player I describe each year as a dude that brings a smile to my face when I watch him.

In this draft he can slide into the group but my guys for this group are - WR Chris Bell, G Chase Bisontis, Keiote Scott and Emmanual McNeil-Warren, and a speedy gnat Kaden Wetjen

I have a better shot at Dakota Johnson than EMW being there in the 3rd I think.

In my opinion, Keim is WRONG. That's not the best case scenario. He's definitively wrong and he needs to sit there and be wrong and bask in his wrongness. WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Uh Oh No GIF by CBC

The ideal situation for the Commanders is the top player on their board, whoever that happens to be, is available to them at #7 and they can pick that player. That would be a blue-chip prospect who would project to a consistent all-pro or at least pro-bowl level player. You are less likely to find that by trading down.

Without any question, THAT is the best case scenario.

Trading Down and acquiring more picks is absolutely an option. I'm not generally in favor of it because it's almost certainly going to move the team out of the top tier of players. Absolutely agree that it is an option which should be considered (and then in my opinion discarded depending on who is available.) But it ABSOLUTELY NOT the best case scenario.

Keim is absolutely allowed to have an opinion. It's also Galdi's opinion. And many others. ALL WRONG. At least in my opinion. And I don't think any of them have any more foundation for their opinion than I have for mine, or SIP has for his, or any poster on this board has for their opinion. Now, if they were a former GM, HC or executive, that would give them more expertise and therefor there opinion would be worth more.

We know they really want is a receiver. They swung big and missed. The read here is they may like Lemon or Cooper more than Tate but know they can trade back and still get whichever guy they like

SIP may or may not have participated in the BGO Blind Pig Podcast within the last week or so, so there is video evidence, but we all know how sophisticated Deep Fakes have gotten.....

Long story, for anyone who has seen the movie Face Off, that's sort of what happened here. But I can't dive into the details, lives are at stake.

Remember that cat filter zoom from a few years ago when the lawyer forgot to unmask himself and went through the entire client briefing as a cat?

Same thing. SIP has a "human" mask to fool people, but I think you are on the wrong trail. SIP is not Kiem. SIP is (drum roll) Diana Russini!

I'll take Keim don't know about Russini. I'd go with McShay, good looking dude. But I don't know how Voice_of_Reason escapes all of this. If I am Keim. He is the anti-Keim? :p

The second I mention any inside scoop, no one gets here faster to shoot it down as drivel without fail.

Some here like Conn might recall his old rants at the WP, especially during the Snyder takedown era, those were lol quite intense.

So the media is lol clearly his enemy. I know you guys are joking with putting name that reporter on me but you guys might be putting my life in danger. ;)

Yeah I don't see what's so controversial of the idea of they'd love to trade down just a few spots and no more. Arguably there are about 3 prospects than many see as equals that all fit a need.

If they can trade down, a little, and get a 3rd rounder, etc -- nothing crazy about it. And this is coming from the President of the Don't Trade Down club. Now if he said trading into the mid to late first, that's different.

But for me it all depends on who is there when they pick.

I said nothing here. Why am I catching strays?

I think the Dolphins are a possibility just cause they have four 3rd rounders 75, 87, 90, and 94. The Dolphins would likely be trading up for the last of the three big edges though corner or WR is also a possibility. You could possible get 11, 75, and like 151 for 7 or another possible deal would 11, 87 and 94 for 7 and 187 or something like that. But I think a trade up is most likely for a Edge just cause there is a decent drop off after the first three. It could be for Styles or Love too, but in that case I am less sure we are willing to trade.

They don't KNOW that. If they have Lemon rated higher than Tate, what's not to say that 15 other teams have Lemon rated higher than Tate and he goes before they pick again?

They might suspect that. But they don't KNOW that.

If they have Lemon or Cooper as their target, and he's the highest WR ranked on their board, then they should pick him at 7 and move on. If you dilly dally around and trade back, there's a good chance the guy you want will be gone.

Something I think a lot of folks forget is the NFL teams do not follow the consensus boards. They do look at them, but they have their own boards, their own rankings and ratings, and they all might differ significantly, even by rounds, team to team.

This is why I hate the "it was a reach" comment. It's never a reach. Because to say it's a reach means you have to compare where the player is selected to something. And what the person saying "it's a reach" is comparing the placement of the pick to is his/her own rankings/big board.

And there is nothing saying that 10-20 of the NFL teams might be VIOLENTLY different than that particular big board.

Let's just say for the sake of argument that Washington has Lemon as it's top WR, over Tate. What's not to say that 10 other teams have the same decision?

If they get to 7, and Lemon is the best WR on their board, they should just take him there.

It was your post yesterday that set the topic off, ditto you are the one who started the joke that I am Keim, that you've repeated a lot. I am just having a little fun back. :)
Moi?

Keim, you should know better. I would never!

EDIT: and for the record, I do not think you are Rossini. You (Keim) do much better reporting than she does.

Maybe so. I was listening to DJ on a podcast the other day. He said talking to NFL teams he knows a bunch want to trade down, the only team so far that he senses who want to trade up is Dallas. Who knows? I've heard others say maybe Miami or the Ravens. I think much if it depends on who falls.

Just a sidebar about DJ, he likes to say his top 50 is based on who he likes, his mocks are about what he hears from teams. OK, cool, but whenever I've noticed a previous draftee is brought up that ended up a good NFL player he will pat himself on the back when he can and say he rated him higher than NFL teams did. I haven't seen him do the reverse. I recall for example he was really high on Jamin Davis.

I don't think it's just about the Green dot, intimidation, I think it's a real conversation regarding a player that you even have an inkling of a concern with his intensity, and using the 7th pick on him. That's a massive part of whether or not players make it in the league, their intensity level. Of course we're just watching film, so it's only a portion of that conclusion, but if he's got a passive mentality in interviews.. thats a harder path to success than the guy that commands the room. Not to say it's a deal breaker, or that it’s impossible, but it has to be considered when looking at the level of risk / reward within the cost of a top 10 pick.
Yeah question marks over intensity is definitely a valid reason for concern, especially at #7, would probably be considered a deal breaker for me.

Not saying Styles is made that way, but some of the assessment in here might be leading that way?

Eeeek, the Face/Off stuff seemed really painful.

I was hoping it was either just a deep fake or a Mission Impossible style mask/voice altering strip.

Or maybe you are a Faceless Man who worships the Many Faced God?

I considered some Freaky Friday type action (the original with a very young Jodi Foster, clearly), but that magic seems to only work within a family.

All of this is making me want to put that movie on. Been awhile. They don't make movies like that too much anymore. :(
It is legit one of my favorite movies of the 90's. Completely insane.

And you're right, the movie industry today is either dominated by the comic book industrial complex or massive sci-fi epics. (Project Hail Mary was great, btw.)

The Face/Off type insanity would have to go to a streamer.

PSA: For movie buffs, there's a Movie thread in the 5 O'Clock club which is a lot of fun. If you haven't visited there, please come around.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming about re-hashing the same discussion about the same 9 prospects for the same draft spot as the last 2 months...
