The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

This is fantastic news.
Actually it might not be. I get that’s a dig on your end on Bailey. But some insider types say the Titans would take Bailey but they arent sure if they’d take a different edge and in turn it puts Love more in play for them.

Talking with a few of my Jet fan friends, they are saying if no trade down they are either taking Bailey or more likely taking Love. They would then trade away franchise tagged Breece Hall who they don't really want to give him a extension which is the reason they also traded away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams

It’s not really a dig. I think the Titans are a problem for Love anyways.

I think they may go Reese at 4.

Cardinals are supposed to want Reese if he's there.

Bailey
Reese
Love
Tate

That could be picks #2-5 if Bailey goes second. If Reese goes second overall, then the Cardinals are a bit more of a wildcard. There's even been rumors that they've talked to several teams about trading back (Chiefs and Cowboys are examples).

the going theory was Reese, which never made a lot of sense to me based on what I had been hearing that he had huge upside but was raw and position-less.

Somebody (I’m not sure who) said Reese reminded him a bit of Micah Parsons when he came into the league. Very raw, amazing athlete, but they had to figure out how to use him while he developed. (And Quinn did an excellent job of this….)

But if that comp is true, then 2 seems a bit rich for that type of player.

And Bailey seems like a safer pick at that spot.

Again. If true. This could all be subterfuge.

Picking another CB, given everything we have invested in the position the last few years, would feel like a disappointment. Especially if Love happens to be there. We NEED more horses on offense.

But what if Love isn't there? Or Tate?

Defense might be the best talent available. I wish we weren't pigeonholed by how Free Agency played out, yet we kind of are...in a draft with little premier offensive talent.

If we trade back and take McCoy or Delane would you think differently?

If Love is there and we don’t pick him and pick a defensive guy, will have a little mini conniption

But if Love and Tate are gone, which very easily could happen, then it feels like all the next set of players in that tier are defensive guys.

And what we have invested is sunk cost. Can’t do anything about it. You cat draft with failures of the past as a component of your grades.

Will see how it plays out but if we are going on insider rumor stuff, correct or no way to know -- to get Love the key might be for the Jets to take Reese not Bailey. And for the Giants to take Styles.

Supposedly Bailey plays in the style that Saleh likes at least according to some and he'd be a hard guy for them to bypass if he falls to them.

I wouldn't hate them picking a CB but wouldn't love it either.

If they are going premium position to me its edge or WR.

I get that CB is a premium positions but two thoughts on that.

A. The Flores scheme doesn't put a major burden on the CB -- cover 2, cover 4, heavy zone

B. Unless the CB is elite, its a high variance spot from one season to another -- its hard to be a consistently great CB from season to season.

It’s a little unclear exactly how much Flores scheme vs other influences were going to see in the defense.

And … having a shutdown corner helps everything.

At this point I’d prefer the best overall CB than the 3rd best edge.

But I’d prefer Tate or Love.

The argument I am hearing recently about Bailey over Reese for them is you got sick production out of Bailey versus the potential of Reese. 15 sacks 43 hurries. Love or not love Bailey those are some sick stats. So bird in hand versus potential.

Looks like Bailey likely going #2 or #4. If so we want it to be #4.

Maybe they want their Bobby Wagner, Fred Warner for the next decade. DQ coached young Bobby in Seattle and AP had Warner in SF. Those guys were the best of the best. They see Sonny in the mold both on and off the field

Not the thumper Wagner is. But off the field agree plenty of similarities.

Doesn't seen unclear to me. Based on what's been said so far and FA so far, seems heavily Flores. I'd be dissapointed if it weren't and somewhat shocked too based on comments and FA.

If Chaisson and Oweh are going to be used as traditonal 4-3 ends, in a non Flores like defense, teams will be running down their throats all season.

As for who the best overall CB is, that's unclear.

"It feels like Washington at No. 7 is going to wind up kind of benefiting, one of these great players is going to fall," McShay said. "If Jeremiyah Love doesn't go 4 or 5, which we believe he will, he could be sitting there. If Caleb Downs doesn't go, I think he's the parachute for Washington. I think Sonny Styles is probably the most likely to land there."

Been watching Caleb Downs, its been awhile for me to watch him. I am warming back up to him.
I too have circled back to considering Downs at 7.

I am not certain if this makes sense but I'd rather he be gone before 7 so that decision is off the table.

I however figure there is a 50% chance he is one of the fallers to us at 7

That literally makes zero sense to me. The Jets have way too many holes to take Love. We wouldn't even take Love at 2. They are going premium. Hall will only make 14mil this year as a top 5 paid rb in the league. Gardner makes like 30mil and Williams like 24.

Hall is a great value at that price. No way us or any team takes Love when you have a high level player at that position for only 14mil. I still say they are going to take Bailey if they stay. Financially, it's the only move that makes sense
