The 2026 Free Agency Thread

Y'know what's Payneful? In the end, we've had to dump or wanted to dump all four first round defensive linemen.

None of them were blue chip guys. Emblematic of the team that took Kerrigan over Watt. Hopefully Daniels reverses the trend but we can't find blue chip all-pro guys in the 1st to save our lives. Scherff came close; last one who really counts is Trent all the way back in 2010 and he had his best years after leaving DC. Yucky

So many changes in decision makers over that time along with all of the nonsense, I'm convinced that a lot of the failures of a lot of our first round picks (and any players that came through here for that matter) has a lot less to do with the player's ability, and more to do with the franchise failing to get the most of them, develop them, and set them on the right path. Jon Allen was a blue chip player. That dude coming out of Alabama was different. He was doing things that just made no sense for an interior lineman, including getting Heisman votes.

Chase Young was blue chip as it gets coming out of OSU, and we were asking him to drop back in coverage. No, i don't think he would have ultimately lived up to the hype, but at some point you gotta say 'huh?' Players aren't necessarily born into some fate that they're going to be an All Pro player. As much as talent matters, coaching, development, schematic alignment, and overall proper usage have as much to do with any of it. No players seemed to come here in any capacity and live up to the expectation. That's not to say I believe fully in the talent evaluators, and that the coaching was the sole failure, but I also don't believe that we've had 25 years of players come through here and the only All Pro we've had in a year that starts with the # 2 is Jeremy Reaves who made it as a Special Teamer (not even a return man).

Some players even with extreme talent don’t have the internal make-up to leverage that talent. Some just aren’t driven to be great. (Not to name names….cough, cough Chase Young.)

What stood out to me was his admiration for Lynch. I don't think that he's in the dark about the Aiyuk situation. Again, us and SF probably have the best 2 team relationship in the league.

We've done a lot of business together and there are a lot of combined relationships. I don't think SF will let it play out forever. June 2nd at the latest but probably sooner. They will do right by us/Adam.

But there’s no reason not to do it now.

I guess if they are holding out hope for a trade, the latest would be the draft. But the day after the draft would be the absolute latest.

Letting it drag on any linger than that is pointless. For everybody. Including the 49ers.

They can cut him any time and designate him as a June 1st cut.

Come on now. Chase was a predator............at least in his mind.

Kyles still being a biatch

Such a weird situation.

Its like your best friend wants to start bangin your ex wife but you're still pissed she got the house in the divorce so you're gonna drag it out as long as possible but you know eventually the judge is gonna finalize the divorce and your gonna have to let her go.

How the hell can peters and Lynch/shanahan be totally comfortable with this whole thing.
