The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Never know about rumors but they are some that are consistent like the Jets are going pass rusher at #2. Just watched DJ on McAfee and he doubled down on it -- Reese or Bailey.

Now if the Titans insider who was on Keim's podcast is correct, he thinks they love Bailey. If so we want the Jets and Cards to bypass Bailey if the idea is Love falls to 7.

On ES Goingcommando would go nuts when I posted some of the McGinn scouts takes -- especially when it didn't jive with his takes. But the bottom line, is the draft media aren't running these draft boards, we aren't lol of course, too, its GM's scouts. So generally agree or disagree with their takes, the scouts point of view on these players are relevant and tend to be more accurate on draft day than the draft media.

This is a valid take, but I need to understand it because it doesn’t make sense to me.

The NFL HAS changed, and some of the biggest overall weapons on an offense are no longer the receivers, but running backs (in some cases).

If you have a receiver that can block, run and catch at a high level doesn’t that contribute to creating a prolific offense?

Does Tate alone push us to a prolific offense?

We need work at receiver, but I am not for compounding mistakes by passing on a potential elite player for a, in my opinion, solid but lesser player.
 
I think Tate is better than solid. I think he will be very good but I don't see elite. Jeremiyah Love to me screams elite. And look if he wasn't a weapon in the passing game to me Tate would easily be the better pick. But Love isn't just a runner, he's a passing weapon.

 
What the hell do I know? I'm a fan that played football in high school back in the '80s! 😆

I'd be surprised, too.

I am not a hard core anti-Bain although I probably come off that way. I am simply too uncertain about him to dive in his favor. But if they took him I wouldn’t fllip out.

Feels like a major wildcard to me. But if they took himI’d talk myself into it by focusing on the positives.

Columbia MD, 4 state championships in a row, we won 3...nobody famous but we were a powerhouse. I had very long thick hair and was an insane middle linebacker who love to hit people! 🤣🤣🤣

We host the draft next year. It would have been amazing this year with us picking this high and may be getting Love. The city would go insane that night but next year will be great also hopefully after a great season where Jayden & Love or whoever are those dudes in the NFL at this point next year
 
Then again, we could be right there picking in the top 10 again next year. People complain that this team is disrespected but it's all probably going to come down to whether JD can play 16/17 games. Which is definitely still in question.

That would be great: have to say, the body language in this shot is interesting - if hands on hips & crossed arms mean anything like "I'm unsure about you", he's not likely to be their guy.

I fully buy into that. I've only got 2 first round grades on WR's and if Tyson's medicals push him into Day 2, then that leaves just Tate.

For example, as a weapon in the passing game there is an entire world of difference between Love and Lemon. If I'm just viewing prospects as receiving options for Jayden. I've still got Love over Lemon. Some of these runningbacks are so much more valuable than the "RB isn't a premium position label". You get outsized talent for a fraction of the cost. That's hyper efficient cap usage.

Let me give some examples of seasons and we can judge their impact to the offense as a whole.

  1. 116 receptions, 1005 yards, 4 TD's, Success Rate 59.9%
  2. 102 receptions, 924 yards, 7 TD's, Success Rate 57.4%
  3. 95 receptions, 1042 yards, 3 TD's, Success Rate 44%
  4. 85 receptions, 1013 yards, 4 TD's, Success Rate 68.6%
  5. 64 receptions, 910 yards, 6 TD's, Success rate 58%
  6. 79 receptions, 820 yards, 4 TD's, Success Rate 56.3%
  7. 74 receptions, 1017 yards, 7 TD's, Success Rate 54%
  8. 58 receptions, 847 yards, 5 TD's, Success Rate 53.7%
  9. 111 receptions, 1165 yards, 3 TD's, Success Rate 58.4%
  10. 71 receptions, 1117 yards, 6 TD's, Success Rate 49.2%

Let's pretend all those RB seasons cost a premium cap hit for the RB position, and all those WR seasons cost a premium cap hit of WR2. You'd take the RB seasons. They cost less, with comparable production, but then add in all the rushing yards, and touchdowns, and you get someone who vastly outperforms the dollar amount with on-field production.

I get the concept of premium WR2 > premium RB ... unless the RB is a weapon in the passing game.

Love as a prospect, profiles as an RB who can hit that. Who you can dial up a lot of plays in the passing game for and give him 70 catches on 100 targets. If his success rate on catches is north of 50%, then you have an offense that's really hard to stop. Not all RB prospects who profile as a great pass game weapon wind up as such. Saquon Barkley did, but he never quite had that success in the NFL. Bijan Robinson did not quite, but then he developed it. McCaffrey did, and he became dominant at it. We should not underestimate Love's potential to be a real chain mover on passes thrown to him.

Most body language “reading” theory is fake. Lots of people just have ways they like to stand, sit, and occupy their hands lol. It doesn’t really mean anything beyond really obvious discomfort or really obvious relaxation/confidence that almost anyone could spot.
