I think we can assume he saw it quickly as yay we got a good TE and not as anything really bad about a player on the team still. I think it would be bad leadership which so far I think none of us think is a problem.

Objectively, realistically... Do you really think McNichols was superior in every way? Do you really think we should cut Bill today and re-sign McNichols to be the starting QB? I mean hell almost any team would kill for a 5 yard per rush average.

Sample size and usage can alter statistics. Shaking my head.

I swear some of you just don’t want to admit Bill isn’t where he needs to be yet.

He is literally the only back on the roster who isn’t an established receiving threat and pass blocker. That’s not bashing, it’s where he is.

He’s a seventh rounder who is getting his feet wet.

If I’m doing any bashing it isn’t to him, it’s to all the idea he had a great year and he’s our savior. It’s WILD.

And to be specific, since you didn’t feel the need to quote me despite it being obvious who you’re trying to get at…

I was responding to someone that said Bill had a better ypc and yard per reception. He was the best back on the team per them.

He, in fact, did not and was not.

And no. I don’t think McNichols should be the starting QB, I don’t even know where that came from.

Oh, and NcNichols IS re-signed.

Bill definitely has room to grow, but he was my training camp crush...😍

Hopefully he will strengthen his weaknesses this year and next

I didn’t know Daniels had competition from McNichols. Damn. Backup RB and possible starting QB. Good signing by Peters!

Who cares at this point what round he was drafted in? It's kind of crazy. After a player he's drafted what matters is if they can play not their pedigree. Joe Jacoby was a UDFA. Lucky for us, they gave him a shot to play a second year. Brock Purdy was taken with the last pick of the draft and he wasn't perfect when forced into action. It was probably a good choice not to cut him after his rookie year. Likewise, everyone saw that Bill showed a lot of potential especially in the first half of the season.

Honestly, I think what gets to me is the faux praise followed by the "but" which is the clear message.
I wanted us to draft Bill but his mother is ugly is not posting in support of him. Suggesting that we've seen Bill's ceiling because his production dropped after the team lost all its receivers, its star tight end and starting quarterback isn't fair analysis.
The idea that McNichols was objectively better than Bill is silly. Making that argument for whatever reason if you can goof around with statistics is silly. You don't believe it. Yet you said it.

Now, being less hyperbolic. Bill isn't a savior. I doubt anyone thinks that, but he deserves his shot to compete to be a starter. At the same time, it's smart of the team to find free agent alternatives in case he falters, get injured, or doesn't improve. As for Love, replacing a potentially good starter by drafting a potential great starter is reasonable, but don't tell me that if every sentence you write about Bill must be qualified by three negative "buts" that you aren't bashing the guy.

And for goodness sake, leave his mother out of it. I really don't care if you think she's a looker or not. Just stop it. His mother is a fine woman.

The round matters because he was drafted TO DEVELOP.

If he was ready for primetime he would have been drafted in the first or second. It’s rare that a seventh rounder is actually ready for the spotlight and was missed.

What faux praise, by the way? I hadn’t praised him at all. He has home run ability. That doesn’t equate to praise. He showed poor vision, poor blocking and not very good receiving ability.

Me saying I want him to develop isn’t praise - what are you even saying? It doesn’t even make sense.

Where have I suggested we’ve seen his ceiling? This is so odd, really. It’s like you’re making things up because you’re sad people don’t think Bill is ready to carry the load.

RWJ said Bill had better yards per carry and yards per reception. He, in fact, didn’t. That is a literal fact.

McNichols is better than Bill, by the way. Bill just has higher upside and home run ability. And he’s younger, which gives him a ton of run way.

Bill. Can’t. Pass. Protect. Or at least couldn’t.

Bill is also not anywhere near as good as McNichols as a receiver. And he has worse vision.

He is a far better athlete, has a higher upside and is a home run threat.

McNichols is not.

He is developmental. Pointing that out to the people who think he’s some stud that has already broke out isn’t bashing. It never has been bashing. And it never will be.

Here’s the difference: I think he can develop. You think he is developed.

And why do you keep talking about his Mom? This whole conversation is so odd.
 
I think it’s probably time to take the Bill discussion to a non-Free Agency thread.

I’m not sure which one but it really doesn’t have anything additional to do with FA at this point.

If this has to continue, maybe go to the random thought thread. I looked for a thread on Bill but couldn’t find one.

Maybe somebody else would have better luck, I’m on my phone.

On the plus side, Tate at 7 and a dash of Aiyuk mania on the side and it is looking a lot better in the short term.

But I hate that despite our best efforts we’re cornered at this position. That’s a downstream effect of McCaffrey and Lane potentially missing (we’ll see). So we really need to hit at the position this year and going forward to fix that.
