The 2026 Free Agency Thread

So we gave up on signing the top receivers (Jennnings) until Aiyuk becomes available or they draft someone at 7...covering bases

You mean after signing one of the big names they went after?

If so, I could see that as adding competition and pressure on the others.

It just doesn't feel great to me right now but I get it

That's what it feels like.

Peters said he learned his lesson in his press conference as to what they did at WR. He somewhat did. Not totally because they don't have a legit #2 yet.

But their depth was pathetic at that spot last year. I think that's the worst depth I can ever recall as a fan of this team, and I was very critical on the idea of heck if you aren't shooting high for your Z WR, at least have some veterans who aren't awful as backups.

Neither Dyami and Van Jefferson are hot. But they also aren't pathetic street free agents either.
 
I hope they fill up the remaining weaknesses that we have on the roster so that we can truly pick BPA at the 7th

I would prefer not to trade down but if we do only a few slots and only if we get a second to go with it

I don't like drafting for need. But if they idea is these two along with Aiyuk -- drafting Tate would relax me about the WR corp. Without Tate, and if its these guys along with Aiyuk, it isn't nearly as bad as last year -- its closer to the 2024 meh version of the WR room.

Agreed...especially where you said "He somewhat did" lol

We now have a better supporting cast than last year, just need to replace Deebo with a real #2 now
 
Some were upset we let Dyami go. Well, he's back (which probably means he didn't show Peters and the NFL that they were wrong about him and deserved that multiyear project) but he is a guy who clicked with the team during the playoffs. Don't know much about Jefferson, but at least we have a few more warm bodies.

I still believe we will sign/draft someone else, but hopefully between Burks, Jefferson, Brown, McCaffrey, and Lane at least one or two emerge.



On Sinnott, the contrary argument would be that Kingsbury really loved Ertz and Ertz was Daniels safety blanket. This meant Sinnott had little opportunity to get on the field. After Sinnott got injured I really hoped he would show out. He didn't, but he did once getting a shot to get on the field showed he could block. He showed he had a place on an NFL field. Now, we all wanted more out of him and he missed an opportunity to show how good a weapon he was. Part of me thinks that was still Kliff as Bates got too many targets which might mean Sinnott was either not on the field in passing downs or was left in to block. Chances are, that's more of a Sinnott thing than a Kliff thing but at least Ben stepped up in blocking. That was his step one. Now, he needs to prove that he can get to step seven. Unfortunately for him, he probably will again find himself buried on the depth chart behind Chig.

J/K Burks has shown a lot of potential and I was extremely happy when it was announced that they resigned him

I maintain the argument i've had all along, that this is going to be a drawn out process that takes multiple years to correct. This roster already is exponentially better than it was before free agency. That's not to say that we're anywhere set, or good enough up and down the depth chart, but it is improved.

I do however feel very underwhelmed regarding this position group, because as Boone has stated many times, Peters vocally said the best thing he can do is put playmakers around Jayden to protect him, and WR was clearly an opportunity to get the absolute biggest return on your investment. Of course I've argued to be patient, and there's circumstances with Pierce who got overpaid to stay where he always was going to stay, and others, but this will continue to be something to monitor in the WR room. As it stand with these two signings, the depth tier in the WR is getting very crowded so someone is either going to have separate themselves, or we're not done yet. If we go into this season with largely this WR, my confidence will not be very high, and we're banking a lot on Aiyuk. Not saying i'm mad at Peters, blame him or anything because like i said, there are so many factors, to upgrade everything in a single off season is reaching. Just looking forward, we're going to need to continue to address long term talent at that position.
 
We ain't getting Jennings, are we?

Hopefully they have some inside info saying Aiyuk is good to go and hopefully Burks/Luke take the next step.

That or Tate/Tyson at 7 but can't plan for that completely.
 
Disappointed about Jennings, but so far the whole league is out on him. Aiyuk needs to come in and produce. If that happens, we are fine. Honestly, if we draft Love, the combination of Love, Okonkwo, and Terry should be really good, even without a great number 2.

Yes Jennings signing would have really made a pick at 7 easier
 
I think the WR signings are by no means spectacular (the WR FA class was lacklustre), but they do allow us to draft BPA.

I expect a similiar FA signing at CB.
