The 2026 Free Agency Thread

There are a lot more Rodriguez fans in this fanbase than I thought there were.
As there should be. For whatever reason, dude got shit on by this organization.
Gets on the field, productive then gets put on practice squad. It was clear that despite being a productive player, they didn't like him.

Even Doc Walker was scratching his head on that one.

I have already.steeled to the reality that guys like Sinnott that can’t get on the field for two years on a team with a need for playmakers is someone who just doesn’t have what it takes to make it at this level.

As they used to say when Clinton was President - it is what it is.
When asked why Sinnot wasn't getting more opportunities,Kliff said he's behind a Hall of Fame TE.
Kliff has always had a crush on Ertz.

I don’t necessarily think he got ‘shit on’. I was never all that blown away by his talent the first few seasons. He just didn’t show much beyond being an average RB (to my eye). He changed my mind last season. It is a little surprising given that 2025 seemed to be a bit of a turning point for him that they would pick now to move on, but it may have more to do with what Blough wants in a RB than them not appreciating CRod. Doc Walker - he’s wrong a lot. Just sayin’…

Washington Commanders: B-

  • Key additions: EDGE Odafe Oweh (read more), LB Leo Chenal, DL Tim Settle, CB Amik Robertson, EDGE K'Lavon Chaisson, TE TE Chig Okonkwo, S Nick Cross
  • Key re-signings: QB Marcus Mariota, OL Andrew Wylie
  • Key departures: C Tyler Biadasz, RB Chris Rodriguez Jr.
On one hand, the Commanders' efforts to upgrade Jayden Daniels' weaponry has not borne fruit yet. They were in the running for both Pierce and Doubs and failed to sign either. That's caused some consternation. On the other hand, Oweh made great strides with the Chargers last year, and he very much fits the "younger and faster" agenda. Chenal is a sorely needed addition at linebacker. Settle and Robertson could prove important additions, too. Washington could still use to add more needle movers on both sides, but they've gained a pair of instant-impact defensive starters before the new league year has officially begun.

Before this free agency period started, we were beginning to grow the narrative that Harris was cash poor and kept Peters on a tight budget. It sort of made sense. As billionaires go, he's not the richest and he spent a heck of a lot on the team, on improvements, etc.

I think the narrartive can be put to bed for at least this offseason.

Definitely. What they tried in the past wasn’t working and Peters (as far as I saw) didn’t mention any sort of cash budget this offseason like he did previously. In fact they clearly signaled local and national media to kill that narrative and that they would spend. So that’s good

There was a story last offseason that he’d finally earned his place on the final 53 rather than PS because he got himself in shape, with the implication being he was always good enough to barely stick around in the past but hadn’t applied himself seriously and arrived to camp in great shape until last year. So some of it may be on him

I agree. I think Ertz was so slow that anything else looked better lol but I remember one game this past season Sinnott caught a backwards screen and rumbled forward, first time really seeing him attempt YAC…and I couldn’t believe how lumbering and unathletic he looked. Right then my homerism that he was just a slow learner died. He looked very unimpressive, didn’t pop at all. And I don’t mean a Chris Cooley-esque “looks less athletic than he is”. He moved like an OL advancing a fumble.
Granted, it's a small sample size but Sinnott has averaged 5.1 YAC over his career.

He looks like a TE to me. No more lumbering or unathletic than any other TE in the league.

He’s averaged 8 catches per season so far. That’s pretty close to my average (and yeah, I know he’s got a better body). He has literally been a complete non-factor and that is unacceptable for a 2nd round pick.

He looks like any replacement level guy catching on the run in those clips, so maybe it was just his poor stop/start on the deep screen this season that really threw me. Not sure if he added weight after his rookie season either, since he played 35%+ of snaps this year but mostly blocked

But even in those rookie clips it’s clear he has no special athleticism to his YAC game. So unless he’s developing into a great route runner idk what value he’s bringing. If he didn’t learn from Ertz then he’s gonna bounce around the league for a while at best

Dont love him but like him in the slot, feels like Atwell doesn’t exist even though he is a FA
Yes, he is a stick figure and probably past of the reason he appears to be an afterthought in the FA market. Had you heard something that tied him to the team by chance?

I know they wanted speed which he brings but he'd just be another guy fighting for WR3-WR4 right? He and Hollywood seem like similar players. I know you really liked him back on his draft day

I really thought we'd hear they signed Jennings and Chig yesterday.

It's beginning to feel like Jaydens buds Rachaad White and Aiyuk are the plan

I hate to think going back to BRob ad Dyami

I know which play Conn was talking about, pretty sure it was Eagles. It just looked really awkward.

Yes those clips he looks way more normal.

I don’t know everything that has happened behind the scenes. I think Kliff was maybe a bit rigid in expectation and scheme but I don’t think to the extent that a valuable target wouldn’t get attention.

That said- I have said this many times- we looked worse than we should have with our injuries. So adapting to that situation and available personnel skills, I think Kliff did a poor job. Results showed up in this situation, and revealed what probably was visible to a head coach in 2024. I actually think DQ saw it but didn’t make big action on it.

So I do have some thought that a more flexible OC can bring more out of Sinnott. I tend to believe he will end up washing out, but it is not hopeless in my mind. It is up to Blough and of course Sinnott.

Hollywood has been a disappointment IMO, injuries and seems like a headache. Atwell, don't love him, but like him as a backup idea to slot. He's no scrub. The Rams paid him 10 million last season.

If not him C. Austin sort of the same idea, not great but brings speed, also D. Mooney. None of them barn burners. But for as much as I like what Peters has done for the defense, Right now, he's flirting with having the same bad depth at WR they had last year. And at the moment weaker depth troo at the O line and RB. I assume he will address it but options at WR or RB are small right now. For me its Jauan Jennings and Rashaad White.
