The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Understood
Exactly. AP has not found a single obvious stud after rd 1 so far. I’m not talking about a hit, I’m talking about a stud

You may point to Amos and he looked like a competent outside CB but not a stud. Juxtapose his rookie season with 3 guys in the Rams’ 2023 rookie class - Young, Turner and Nacua
Understood, and if that lack of hits/studs carries on, it won't take long for our GM to lose his cape.

Washington has been without a productive and respected safety since Sean Taylor in 2007.

I think if he is available we should take Caleb Downs, he will improve the defense down the middle - an area that really caused problems for us in 2025 with slower ILB not able to cover and safeties without the talent to play the position full time.

Given how running backs can come from nowhere and run for 1,000 yards in the NFL I am more comfortable looking for a RB with that second pick if we can't sign someone in free agency.

Love is likely to be the best talent, the main counterpoint is that teams don’t use resources on running backs, but when was the last time we had a great back? Portis?

Safety has been a problem forever, so I could see Downs. That seems more a need than BPA move though.

If it isn’t Love or a top safety I would be surprised. What else might it be? Maybe a LB?

The counterpoint is for starting running backs, and it's a valid one. I can't speak for everyone, but Love isn't just a starting running back. He's got the ability to be Saquan Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, or Derrick Henry. The view is that he can be one of those pieces that changes the entire offense and raises the floor as well as the ceiling.

I have the exact opposite thought you do. I think Love changes everything for us and I am more comfortable finding a safety in the third. Especially if the Downs ACL stuff is real (I have no idea).

Downs is all over the field but he isn’t a ball production guy, he’s like Kam Curl but blue chip. I love that. If he’s helping the team make stops you don’t need ball production. So I’d be fine with Downs.

But I think safety is really deep in this class and we can get a starting caliber one in the third.

I like Price at RB but he’s probably long gone by 71

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if we forced a receiver if we can’t get any in FA. Right now it looks like Burks is our number 2 with LMC and Lane as 3&4

The temptation to go for a WR at 7 grows. It's probably a bad temptation, but we need some youth with potential at wide receiver... unless Lane and/or McCaffrey are ready to make a huge leap.

I watched Arvell Reese against Illinois and he was fantastic. He is incredibly violent. During the game Cory said that Reese and Leo Chenal from the 2022 class are the most violent linebackers he has scouted, and after watching this tape, that doesn’t feel like hyperbole.

Back from my scouting report of Arvell Reese (see the part I bolded about Leo Chenal).

I was going to say that it's clearly down to Love, Tate, and Downs, but since we are still in play for Chaisson, that means that edge is still on the table if we don't get him

Now with the signings of the past couple of days ALL being on defense I would think we need a major impact player on offense at #7.

So, that puts Love and Tate in play for us I would imagine.

Yup but I expect us to still sign 2 solid receiverss which probably means Love or Downs and if they are gone then we trade down for Delane

Other than Jennings I don't know I see another #2 out there that is a guy that can step up and play #1 for a few games if Terry misses time.

A lot of the receivers left on the market are slot receivers, smaller and speedy, but not outside guys that can beat press coverage.

I am concerned with this also, especially if they do sign Chaisson. There is a chance they have Tate ranked WR1 and he would be gone do they reach for Tyson?

Another thought was if they cannot trade down, (or move down slightly) and fail to bring in a TE like Chig or Njoku, would they be high enough on Sadiq for that reach....I sure hope not.
