He's right but IMO what Peters didn't do in 2025 to build a winner is part of the reason why this isn't a sexy destination spot. He had it in 2024 but squandered it IMO,
Ya so… I don’t agree at all with Standig.
Where he and Wale have a point is that it’s still too early to be mad for not getting some of these guys.
But if they don’t want to come here the question becomes: why?
It’s very likely not the owner at this point.
So it comes down to factors like coaching staff and record.
Dan Quinn is almost definitely on the hot seat. He fired both coordinators. And he was allowed to bring in Blough, who may be amazing, but has no experience and let most of the experienced coaches go on offense.
We got a quality DC, but he takes over one of the worst defenses in the NFL.
That is a major red flag.
Peters stuck with Quinn. I may not have. And it would have had little to do with Quinn himself, who I like.
But when he moved on from Kliff I was frustrated but if we brought in a McDaniels or someone like that I would have thought we could attract some FAs and have some experience.
When it was Blough that fast…
Again, it’s still too fucking early.
But this is what these moves mean.
When you fire both coordinators after a bad season it should really mean the end of the HC, too.
For better or worse, Peters stuck with DQ. And now I think their fates are intertwined.
If I’m AP, I’m overpaying some guys to come here now. The record can’t be what it was last year or a lot of people are going to be uprooted.
As an aside… I bet AP and DQ could leave DC and find all sorts of success elsewhere. They don’t stink. And may still turn this around.
Just this was a real tough destination to begin with and the early success may have hurt more than it helped.
