Still crossing my fingers for Shaheed, Okonkwo, Aiyuk, and Love. Our weapons would be as good or better than any in the NFCE, I think, and rival those of the Bears, but granted, without as much youth.

Re Caleb Downs, how much I’d like that pick depends on what they do in free agency. If they are super aggressive and add a lot of real, actual talent on both sides of the ball, I’d like the Downs pick.

James Foster one of the cohosts of the DaftonDraft podcast has access to the in game data. Back in a October or November episode he said Bains acceleration grade is 90 percentile his top speed is 44 percentile. He is twitchy and gets off the ball very well, maybe elite given his size, but his top speed isn't there. He is like a 4.5 RB who has legit burst and therefore looks explosive, but who only runs a 4.5. If you need to get an edge both burst and top speed come into play a little bit.

I feel like Bain is a sneaky athlete in how he has core and lower body strength and he can coil and recoil to convert speed to power, his ankle flexibility to turn corners. Guys can be sneaky athletic. I think Bain is athletic. But I think his forty time is going to be very pedestrian.

He could be. I've won some friendly bets on ES guessing speed/athleticism of some college WRs over the years including ironically Pierce.

With edges, its tougher especially the ones who aren't speed rushers. I am not as confident predicting athleticism without the help of the combine for edge. Watching Bain chase down offensive players, he doesn't look fast to my eyes, whether he's average or slow hard for me to tell.

But agree, he's fast off the snap-very good bend for his size.

My theme about Bain is pretty simple: I don't know. Not negative. Not positive. Too many variables for me that make it hard for me to guess one way or another. I come off more negative on this thread for 2 reasons.

A. I got prospects at 7 that I am much more confident that will be good

B. When some push Bain with some sort of get out of here narrative, he's going to really good -- lol, I push back because I don't see it as some borderline slam dunk drill. Maybe yes. Maybe no.

I've had plenty of prospects over the years, I've been out on. My issue with Bain and to an extent Faulk too is I can see it go either way, and if I am picking 7 I want a safer bet.
 
Ditto as well. That would be awesome, and it wouldn’t break the bank. We would have a potentially super elite offense with still plenty of cap space to improve the D.
 
Bain was rated as high as 2 by the experts before the combine. It’s not like they weren’t aware of his measurements. And I definitely respect KDawgs opinion a lot (even if he has admitted some possible U homerism). I won’t be too disappointed if we take him, but the potential for “I told you so“ if he busts is off the charts. No way I’m taking him over Love, downs, styles, or Tate

I had this same thought. All of these teams already had tape and arm measurements and probably GPS data on Bail before the combine. Maybe his lack of height and hand size are new information. I doubt teams see him that differently after the combine. I still have some hope that some team above us falls in love with him.

You can literally say the same about every single player in NFL history, both good and bad. No one is saying that it automatically makes Bain great. I was just pointing out that it's a plus. It's like someone being trained by Mayweather to learn defense is undoubtedly a plus, I'm sure that you would agree. However, he can train 10 people and at least half of them will be trash.

I don't know how you keep getting my stances twisted. Bain is as much as a crap shoot as the rest of them in this draft. Mostly everyone still has Abdul Carter rated over all of the guys this year if he came out and he basically did nothing last year. So much for being Parsons light.
 
That bench press video is such a non-troversy, since that might be the most useless test at the combine.

Interesting to see Brian Thomas Jr on that list. I wonder if effectiveness vs zone is what limited him this year and teams just figured him out. That might make sense for a big, really fast, linear athlete, who can run past man coverage.
 
Tate vs Love is a very interesting dynamic. I firmly believe you should leave your depth chart out of the draft room and draft the best player. And there is no question in my mind that Love is a better player. But this is kind of a unique situation.

As I said I'm fine with the RB room. I can argue the gap between Love and the other RBs (should they be retained) is far smaller than the gap between Tate and this WR group. On top of that Terry is on borrowed time and they need to find a legit WR sooner rather than later. The best way to find an impact receiver is the draft, they are very expensive in free agency and the top ones are only available if they are aging or have serious behavior issues.

RBs are far cheaper to find in free agency. You won't get a Love type of guy but you won't be getting a Jefferson or Chase level player in free agency either. On top of all of this since running backs are cheaper than WRs and the draft picks are slotted you will end up paying #7 pick money to a player who plays a non-premium position, a position that is normally much cheaper to fill. So his contract will be an overpay before he even plays a down.

I saw him destroy teams in the playoffs. Without looking it up I'm going to assume teams like Ohio State had top offensive tackles.

For anyone, really. True power derives from legs, hips, and core (and possibly from a mandate from the people, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony). Bench press has little to do with actual, functional strength and power.
 
Bench Press is more a test of hard work and consistency in the weight room.

Lotsa guys can squat and even deadlift based on natural strength, bench is a bit more nuanced.

I heard an interview with Jeremiah Smith, he said what he takes pride in most since being at OSU are his BP gains, FWIW
