The Front Office: Adam Peters and Roster Construction

Yeah, I'm not advocating we operate like Dallas (they are the ones who gave those guys insane contracts to begin with). But I do like the aggressiveness. I'm hoping we see some of our own aggressiveness next week.

I think that Jones realizes that he doesn’t have a lot of time left and that is a large motivating factor in his actions.

And they went all in on Dak and his window is rapidly closing

I kinda like not having to rework the cap over and over again. Maybe that's just me...

His isn’t the only one.

Yeah, Rainn Dakota isn't all he was nutted out to be.

There are times when it’s a useful tool. Definitely not something you want to be forced to constantly do, as a rule

I’d much rather have a talented enough roster to have to worry about the cap. There’s a happy medium, of course. But not having to come close to worrying about the edges of the cap because the team is bad and spends no money is on the opposite end of the spectrum and also bad. I don’t want to be there either

Peters hasn't learned a damn thing from last year.. with the re-signing of Wise and Tuttle. both players over 30 and Wise coming off of injury.

Lotta ways to skin a cat. But you have to hit on your picks no matter what else you do. And some of them have to be BIG hits. Unavoidable if you want to be elite

‘Prescott's base salary goes from $40 million to $1.8 million, while Lamb's and Smith's drop to the $1.7 million range. The differences were turned into "signing bonus" for cap purposes to free up space.

While the moves create cap room this year, it adds to the players' salary cap numbers in the future. For example, Prescott's 2027 cap number now will be more than $76 million.
Link?

Envying the Cowboys is certainly interesting...

Ehhh both guys are depth. Tuttle has started a bunch of games in the league and, while you don’t want Wise starting, he’s decent depth. If we go odd front, Wise has the size to play 3-4 DE

EDIT: Actually, Wise may end up being the other starting odd front lineman with Kinlaw and Payne. The DT free agent class stinks. It is JFM and a lot of meh. (I am not counting on Little Johnny to win a starting job).

Much success to AP but if he is replaced may this fella be in consideration for GM. He has been with Schneider for years and he may be ready to assume the helm. Not saying it because Seattle won the SB but it surely doesn't hurt.

Who?

I’m no cap guru, but the way we handled the Tyler Biadasz situation just doesn’t make any sense to me from a roster-building perspective.

If I'm getting the numbers right, they released him just to save a measly $2.9mil. against $8.1mil. in dead cap money...or, because he "doesn't fit" an offensive scheme that literally doesn’t even exist yet. I get it if you make that kind of move for a player who has basically no value, but the market just proved that isn’t the case.

Dude signed a 3-year, $30 million deal with the Chargers...a raise from what he was making here, and reports showed multiple teams were eyeing him immediately. If multiple teams are willing to pay this guy around $10mil. a year, you cannot convince me that we couldn't have picked up the phone and found someone willing to part with a 6th or 7th-round pick just to jump the line and secure his rights.

Instead, we basically did the Chargers a favor letting them sign a starting-level C before free agency even officially starts, while we get stuck with another roster hole and zero draft capital to show for it.

Feels like we just threw away a tradeable asset for the sake of a "clean slate" that we didn't actually need given our cap space.

From what Kiem suggested, the cut was not about cap but about performance. Apparently, the team felt he underperformed last season. I thought he was pretty solid. I thought the line overperformed expectations in 2024 and was pretty good (especially in pass pro) in 2025.

This operation’s ability to self-scout has been in doubt for a while imo
