The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Charles Davis latest mock is an absolute worst case scenario for us. No OL go and we are left with Bain. I would seriously take scraps and trade down if the draft went this way. '

I think in this scenario Caleb Downs is the better bet.

Unless Tyson's medicals came back clean, then maybe him.

Hard no to pre injuries or degenerative issues

Is a team really hoping they can get Downs to fall to them in the later part of the first round? How do the physicals work? Can a team release something to see if it tanks his stock?

Remember when Montez Sweat had a heart condition?

It sounds like the "degenerative" report on Downs is just dirty scuttlebutt without a real basis, but we'll see if it continues to flop around.

Teams don't generally get drawn into these kinds of reports, since they get the medicals too. If there's a there there, it'll be reflected in a drop, but it'll be a real concern.

This is getting boring but…has there yet been a reputable source confirming the reports from, at best, questionable social media posters?

I see now why they do it as so many are quick to parrot it along.

Don’t see how it could work given all the teams have access to medicals and do their own on visits. It would really only work on the media, which trickles down to fans. Which really has no tangible benefit

Yeah I bet you would love some proof regarding any of these rumors. I’ve heard it called a “fact fetish”. You freak. You sick freak!

Here’s how we’ll know… if Downs drops like a lead balloon in a swimming pool… it’s true. If he’s picked in the top 10, it could be true but probably isn’t. Glad that’s settled.

It’s Love or Tate for me by a mile and it doesn’t matter which one you prefer because it definitely won’t end up with BOTH being there. We desperately need an offensive weapon and they both fit the bill. Only defensive guy I’m in on is Bailey and he’ll be gone.

If the nightmare unfolds and neither are there, I hope we trade and try to get a 27 1st + a few 26 picks off someone.

7 has major potential to be the first forced reach of the draft.

How many people here want Bain and how many would at least be OK if we picked him? Honestly, as of right now. I think he has moved back to my #1 choice. The more that I started breaking him down, I've kinda done a 180 on him. I could see him being a dominant run stopper and yes, a dominant pass rusher.

I also think that unlike Reese, Bain was actually peaking at the end of the season like everything finally clicked for him and he figured out how to play football and dominate. I think that will carry over to the next level.

I don't care about the measurables. His tools are off the chart. He's got some old school, NFC East game changer in him. Now I want him. Even better if we can trade down to get him but I want him at 7 over pretty much anyone. He's just what we need, honestly. Plus he literally looks like a 2026 Deacon Jones and that's a good sign... Lol

He's not my first choice, but I'd be OK w Bain. Not sure of his ceiling, but he has a high floor, supposedly has great intangibles and at the very least looks good v the run.

Brugler's latest top 10;

OAK-Mendoza
NYJ-Reese
ARI-Mauigoa
TEN-Love
NYG-Styles
CLE-Fano
WAS-Bailey
NO-Tate
KC-Bain
CIN-Downs

He appears to believe the post combine "hype" w Love and Styles both in the top 10

I've always liked high production guys so I'd be comfortable with Bain, Bailey, or Love. Love seems to have it all: high production, amazing athleticism, good attitude, vision. Both of the ends seemed to deliver consistently over the past two years as high pressure/sack guys. I'm willing to design a prosthetic glove for Bain that extends his reach three inches. There's stuff in the rule books against steroids but nothing against bionics.
