The 2026 Free Agency Thread

I reread the Standig article three times now, and some of what this dude mentions isn't in that article, so maybe its somewhere else? But for what its worth heres what he says

On The Junkies, Ian Hartitz (NFL insider/Fantasy football) said he thinks Tyquan Thorton is like an Alec Pierce "light" and called him an under the radar guy.

I loved Pierce before the draft. But he was close to being a complete receiver. I watched Thorton too, at least the college version was super raw, one trick pony, but freakish athlete. I don't think Thorton is another Pierce but I get the thought. Pierce is a YPC down field threat, that's what he majors in. Same thing Thorton majors in.

I don't know anything about Thorton but started fishing around. "Freakish" is dead on, the guy ran a 4.28! LOL

Definitely would add the much needed speed, we'll see...

Ugh. Not very exciting to hear.

Saying they won’t “overpay“ for a tight end tells me they aren’t serious about signing a quality one.

Bringing back old guy Jones at corner would be depressing.

Same for Von Miller. What happened to getting younger???

Much rather keep the spot open for the possibility of drafting Love then to sign a mediocre back.

Tyquan Thorton at receiver? Hopefully that’s not the best we can do with all that cap room.

It’s not all bad, though… I do like that they are pursuing quality young players at edge, and I think we all can agree on bringing back Jacob Martin.

DE/Edge: Signing Mafe, great! Oweh, decent. WR: Jennings, decent, Doubs is good but one concussion from being out multiple games or the entire year, nah. RB: Rachaad White, could be a surprise decent signing has good hands and YAC potential.

There are a few others that if signed on the cheap would be good but AP needs to and I hope lands better FA prospects than go bargain shopping again. After those several I consider the others older, past their prime and let's say "there are better FAs out there" prospects.

Makes a ton of sense to pick up 2 WRs and 2 DEs/edges (we’ll almost certainly add more as camp bodies/competition of course). Still leaves room for a draft pick at both spot (and/or competition for JJB and/or Luke/Lane (and maybe Burks?). I’m good with Jacob Martin as our 3rd DE - he played pretty well for us and has some versatility to his game. At WR, I guess it makes some sense to go after go after a depth player that at least has a strength as a downfield threat. Obviously I’d love a quality 3rd receiver, but that would be a heck of a lot of money tied up at the position.

I can understand returning Johnathon Jones, but I hope we spend on a better corner. We have very little money tied up at the position, you don’t want a weak link at the spot, it’s always good to have high end depth there, a quality secondary will help our pass rush, and it looks like there will be some nice options in FA. Conversely, it seems unlikely we’re going to land a high end DE that makes the corners better. Essentially, I don’t want to settle for decent to pretty good at both units and hope the scheme is a rising tide that lifts them both.

I share your sentiment about overpaying. Don’t waste the rookie QB contract. Fucking pony up.

With regards to running back, there’s no reason they couldn’t sign Tyler Algier or Rashad White and still draft love. Tyler would make for a thunderstorm and lightning situation where Bill backs up Love. White would make an even better backup for Love, because he’s a solid receiver.

IF CRod were given a REAL opportunity to run the ball (I think his pass catching abilities are decent), he can be a bell cow in this O. He's never been giving the opportunity.

This bums me out as well. Hopefully they’d at least add a semi-decent option.

Yep. Unless maybe he’s slotted as our 4th corner?

I don’t mind this one - fairly cheap, still productive, has experience as an OLB - but it can’t be he and Martin rotating as our starting edge opposite Armstrong.

I don’t think most guys we could sign would prevent us drafting Love. We only have 1 back (Bill) signed for next year. A guy in the mold of McNichols makes sense IMO - a halfway decent, do everything (including ST) type of back to fill that 3rd/4th spot. Someone like that could also be bumped from the team to the PS if need be.

I’m not familiar with the player, but sounds like a fine option as our # 3/4. We absolutely need a better option to fill the #2 spot.

In a perverse sort of way, I miss the days of "Fire up Redskins ONE!"

Napoleon sucked, but he made the start of FA interesting...... WE GOT ARCHULETTA!

I mean, where in this plan are we trying to bring in a high quality weapon for Jayden?? Tyquan Thorton running sprints to open up the middle of the field for Luke and Sinnott while Terry gets doubled is the solution? I really hope they are aiming much higher but keeping those names under wraps. But if the plan actually is to saddle Jayden with mediocrity again, they better do a hell of a job fixing the defense!

I somewhat agree here. My concern is how much he offers as a pass catcher. To your point though, he hasn’t been given many opportunities there.

If we miss out on Walker and Hall (very likely), and Love is gone before our pick (looking fairly likely), I wouldn’t be mad about winding up with Bill, Rodriguez, McNichols and then someone like White or Gainwell (ie a replacement for Ekler). It would be a pretty cheap RB room with some proven ability and quality potential from Bill. Wouldn’t prevent us from drafting a running back later (or Love at 7) as we could probably put McNichols on the PS if need be.

That’s fine, but use that money to pony up for a tight end. There will always be mediocre backs available even if we wait until after the draft. Not saying we can’t do it, but a guy like Allgier is NOT going to be happy if we sign him and then draft Love.

I could be wrong, but I’d think Thornton (or someone like Dyami) would be in conjunction with signing a #2. Basically adding a #3 that improves our depth and could potentially be bumped to #4 if McCaffrey or Lane develop, or if we draft a guy.

Agreed.

True. I’d say though that I don’t want to be in a position where we miss out on Love and wind up rolling with Bill and a couple/few mediocre backs. At a minimum, I think we need to add a pretty good 3rd down back pre-draft. A McNichols type could come post-draft, to your point.

He’d be even more pissed if he’s #3 on the depth chart after JCM, lol.

I love these kinds of rumors, but I caution myself that so far people have been pretty bad at targeting who Peters wants. All of these are reasonable guesses, but I think they are throws at a dart board versus a polaroid of a stolen blueprint.

National reporters especially from ESPN as i pointed out on this thread have struggled.

Keim's been good at it.

I know some comeback with well Keim didn't predict this or that. Yeah of course. My point from following the beat guys isn't that there is a reporter including Keim who knows everything they are about to do. That would be absurd. But its if he says he believes they are chasing specific players or a specfic spot, he's rarely wrong.

Standig had a run with gossip like this where he was on fire during the Gruden reign. But no so much in recent years. His recent posts are the most aggressive I've seen from him as to diving into the rumorville stuff in years, we will see how good he's at it, soon enough.

it seems like losing that job with the Athletic has motivated Standig, he seems more on top of things now. But will see.

If its Thorton, I think it would be the 2nd WR they sign. I doubt they'd sign him and call it a day
