The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Oh man...I was looking at a Big Board and trying to think how far back I would feel comfortable trading down if certain players we're less interested in get taken ahead of us.

It is not far. The talent really falls off fast.
 
I don’t think there’s anything they could do at 7 to piss me off, Rivera style. Unless they reach on Faulk or something. But other than that, 7 seems primed to not provide us any true head scratcher decisions no matter how it goes before us.

Move back very much and that changes very, very quickly
 
All of my life I have been quality over quantity, but in consideration of my budget. We are paying the price for Tunsil this year. It is what it is. I hope AP does not trade back trying to get quantity over quality, especially in this draft.

Like many people have said, the quality drops off quickly this year. If he does trade back we can get a bunch of reasonably decent second tier players.
 
So is it actual real news that Tyson cleared his medicals, or just rumors that he did?

If he cleared his medicals, honestly, he's probably the #1 guy I'd want for us. Can start out as the #2 and transition to #1 in 2027 and onwards, makes it a lot easier to backfill the rest of the WR corps in '27 and later. Tate also could potentially do that too, and the Ohio State connection to Terry would be great, but Tyson is a little bit better of a player.
 
I will bet you a good GM still finds pro bowlers later in Round 1 and Round 2.

Trading from this pick down is not line giving up the lottery ticket selection to take an Elway or Peyton Manning.

I do agree though that once a team has been eliminated from the playoffs winning a game or two at the end of the season may make the ‘each game is a war’ type of fan happy but most of the time in those circumstances it’s best to pull back, regroup and live to fight another day with the higher pick.

What I’ve been hearing on podcasts etc, is that a lot of GM’s and scouts only have a 1st round grade on 10 or 11 players. At 7, we are likely to still get a shot at a real blue chip player. If trading back moves us from picking a top 3 running back in the league, for instance, into picking someone that doesn’t even have a first round grade…

Also, I was thinking about the AAV savings argument for not drafting love. I think another issue with that argument, is that I don’t see Peters ever spending 17AAV on a free agent RB from another team.
 
Well, from my recollection of recent NFL history only Barkley has helped lead a team to a Super Bowl from Day 1 of his arrival with current team from the running back position.

Adrian Peterson ran for 2000 yards and never won a Super Bowl.

Derrick Henry has the most yards of his generation and he hasn’t been to one.

Jahymir Gibbs, Christian McCaffrey? No Super Bowls rings.

Kenny Walker helped Seattle win this year and was the best player on field but he wasn’t a top 10 pick and split the position during the season.

I’m not cherry picking anything. I literally just provided you with the WRs with less production than Tate going into this draft. I literally provided you with facts. And news flash, a lot of these front offices are piss poor at talent evaluation. I’m confident a group of us from this board could put together a better draft strategy than at least half the NFL teams. I’ve said my peace about Tate and this is my last post about him in this argument until draft day.

Would love Love at 7th if it isn’t Styles or Downs, but good points made here. Might be best just to go the FA route at RB.
 
Logan Paulsen I think finished me off Bain. I was already leaning against him. But he's done a deep dive into the player. In his latest podcast, he explains in detail as how as a blocker as a TE, long arms were a big deal to go against. In his mind watching him, Bain hands usage is just OK (also by the way he has small hands) and relies heavily on his forearms and shoulders to swat defenders arms down and he doesn't feel that translates well to the NFL.

Just kidding. :) But, I am not a trade down guy I think in this draft. But if they did trade down, Tyson in that mid first round range would be on my list, assuming his medicals check out.

Logan Paulsen said on his podcast that he heard Tyson's medicals weren't hot. Then we saw another tweet yesterday that his medicals are clear. So I don't know.

But I do think Tyson mid first is a good value. But I am stick and pick right now.

I was going to ask you where you are now on Tyson with the news of him doing well with his injury reports.

I can see him at 12-15. I can see someone taking him or one of the other WRs earlier due to the poor FA market and all of the WR needs
 
Digesting all the buzz for what its worth, and maybe its worth nothing but that's all we got.

QB, probably one O lineman, Bailey, Styles, Reese probably gone before 7.

So that leaves one spot for: Tate, Downs, J. Love. I think its a toss up whether its Love or Tate that goes. Love the better player. Tate the premium position that fits some needs.

Feels like the Titans and Giants are the biggest wildcards.

For me personally, if its between those three players, I'd go Love first. Probably Tate a hair over Downs. But I dig all three players.

I'll start with I am not sure yet about his injury clearance. I posted on that as what Paulsen said.

But even if he's 100% healthy -- I still think Tate is the better player. And I think Lemon is a better player. But Tyson not a mile behind either player.

Lemon, as to the weird interview and he decided not to run makes me wonder. He feels more like a wildcard to me now. I want to see Tyson run hopefully in his proday.

I think Tyson is a good player though. If his medicals check out and he runs in the 4.4s at his pro day -- to me his 40 time is more important than Tate -- and they trade down he's one of my fav trade down candidates depending on who else is there.

But right now I don't love the idea of trading down. I don't hate the idea. But I don't like it either.
 
It's weird to say but feels like we want the Giants to either sign a good FA RB or have Styles drop to their pick, if we want Love. It feels like they are the biggest threat to take him.
 
clskinsfan the flag waving fan for K. Faulk. As I've mentioned before you got a friend in Logan Paulsen. He does like Bailey more, he loves Bailey. But he does like Faulk over Bain.

I have to watch Faulk more. I see the potential don't get me wrong. But among other things I've been burned on betting on projects and picking 7 doesn't feel like a spot to pick a project.

I am still having a hard time with Lemon, the interview deal just left me with more question or caution.

If there were no injury concerns with Tyson he would be my #1 WR. I guess that will not be the case through this process. I'd love to run in the mid 4.4s but have my doubts that it occurs.

I still believe the sign one of the Jennings/Doubs/whoever group in FA to ease our WR needs even though it is not a cap value. They just can't risk the same dumb mistake as last year

Faulk is definitely a sneaky player to slide into the top 10. With all of the Bain talk, some teams are going to be more intrigued by Faulk but regardless he was a sneaky player for that group.

This is where the talk of the GMs having only 11 players graded 1st rounders is deceptive. They are not all the same 11 players. The reality is there are at least 16 probably in that area with others that border that group. If Bailey, Reese, Styles and maybe Bain are gone Faulk is next man up but has more value due to size and game in some schemes

I see Woods also in that group based on teams needs and what he brings.
