(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

I think what the organization has recognized is that Washington still needs visual continuity—even if the name and the Native American theme are gone.

In 2022 they strayed too far from what this team historically looked like. At the time, even I thought that might be what was necessary to resolve the issue…while keeping the historic colors. I was wrong.

At this point I think a lot of fans could live with the name change if the team simply looked like the Redskins again in every way except the name and logo. Restore the classic uniform structure, keep the yellow face mask and traditional striping, and hopefully incorporate the spear as an alternate.

Do that, and we can probably call it a day on the “brand”

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”

I think it's why so many were in the tank for the horrid Washington Football Team--they looked the same.

Yup, perhaps you are right.

Now we are rebranding back to Washington “Football Team”..i.e. Washington “oh shit…now what”with an actual name. Many may never like Commanders, but at least it is an actual name.

That's me. Also happy to lean in to a Roman theme as long as it doesn't fundamentally alter the core, classic, style.

Regardless, this Team has a certain look regardless of name and logo - especially when it comes to the years we were the class of the NFL, . Look like that team and I will buy the merch for me and my family.

I don't pull for the Commanding-Skins because they are "the hometown" team- I haven't been a DMV resident for almost 25+ years. I pull for this Team because I am a third generation fan raising the fourth. This franchise has a certain look regardless of the name and the putrid crap the WOS foisted on us, 'aint it. "SB era" designs is.

In the hysteria of 2020 a lot of the opposition was saying it all needs to go away. Now that we are several years removed from that time more rational heads are prevailing.

WHat really makes my eye twitch: that pompous ass Danny Rouhier refusing to say Commanders after standing on his soap box about "being on the right side of history" and needing to change the name. I want to scream at him "This is what you asked for, dick!"

The problem with that kind of two-dimensional thinking is that once you demand change, you don’t get to control what replaces it. They never stopped to consider they may not like the direction it goes.

WHy would they? It's not like they ever admit when they're wrong...but get it right about a UDFA TE getting released, and they'll beat their chest like they found the cure for cancer

Haven’t kept up with this thread so maybe there are other posts about this, but I was at the Dicks clearance store today and they had an abundance of the burgundy and white Commanders jerseys (Terry, Daniels, etc) marked down to $67 with an added 50% off from there making them $33.50. Adult sizes, and not all smalls - all the sizes. Makes me think these things will be extinct very soon. I’m assuming a burgundy SB era jersey is on the way.

Yep, we’ve been talking about it for a little while now. It’s very evident they’re clearing out the old stock for the new. Everybody’s expecting a new jersey reveal around draft time.

I know that a lot of people really didn't like the White Jerseys with the red dots. I didn't mind those as much.

I hated the ketchup and mustard unis. They looked like some bad HS uniform that was dreamed up by a drunk parent who spends too much time on etsy.

I hated them. Hated them hated them hated them.

I do hope they keep some form of the black alternate uniform. I know I'm in the minority, but I think black uniforms look sharp. Ours were ok, I didn't love the helmet, but I like them in concept as an alternative to pull out from time to time.

It's why I think the Saints home unis are always really sharp. The black with gold helmet. Just slick. Of course, their team colors ARE Black and Gold. So, it makes sense, but I think it looks slick.

Couldn't figure out if this was a random thought or a branding, but I am going with branding.

Flew into the DMV this past weekend for my Grandmother's surprise 91st Birthday Party. My Great Aunt (whom I love dearly and haven't seen in quite awhile) was showing my son - her Great Great Nephew - her Redskins necklace and bracelet she was wearing. The three of us had fun talking Skins for a awhile. Saw a cousin I haven't seen in 15 years and of course talk turned to the Skins at some point. Chatted with some other family members about dearly missing another Great Aunt who passed in last month. She was one of the classiest people I have ever known, and a massive Redskins fan who was in the Stadium for our trouncing Denver in SB XXII.

Then before we left on Sunday, my Grandmother gave my son one of her favorite Redskins pieces of memorabilia - which she does every time we visit the last few years as she knows her time with us is growing short.

I know there are untold numbers of people like me with a similar experience. The NFL franchise in Washington has certain feel and that feeling is in the fabric of millions of people's life history. That feel is almost sacred because it isn't about a football team for so many of us - it is about family.

IMO, if they had kept the stripes on the WFT helmets, and put an outline on the helmet numbers, that would have worked just fine.

Let's say that they go with the Championship Era uniforms as the permanent set...

What do you want the home/road looks to be? I know that we had gone back to burgundy over gold a while ago, but I think we should go back to white jerseys/burgundy pants. That burgundy helmet/white jersey/burgundy pants look is CLASSIC. Wear the burgundy jerseys on the road if necessary (Dallas, Miami in September, etc)...

I actually really liked the WFT helmets. I'd still prefer the numbers on them now than that awful taco holder. Oops quoted the wrong post, apologies

A team can wear an alternate uniform four times a season. It will be interesting to see how they use a new alternate ( which I assume would be burgundy also ) along with a new burgundy version of the Super Bowl era jeresy, assuming again that's what we get.

So, we could wear the white at home for four ( five ) games and then the alternate ( burgundy ) for the remaing four games, and then wear white on the road most of the time except for two or three games where the opponent wears white at home, in which case we would wear the " SB Era " burgundy.

I say this because I assume the new alternate burgundy would only be worn at home.

But thats the thing. That would leave us wearing those new burgundy " Super Bowl era " jerseys only two or three times a season.

Or, ... Wear the alternate burgundy four at home. The other burgundy the remaining four or five home games and ...
The white for all road games except when opponent is wearing white, which means six or seven times a season.

And maybe they will still have a black uniform for one game who knows ?

In other words, wearimg white at home doesnt leave much room for a new burgundy " SB era " uni if the new alternate is burgundy also.

We of course dont have to wear the new alternate four times but it seems like we should wear it more than just once or twice a year.

I wonder when we'll get a release date?

The Titans know theirs. The Falcons know theirs.

Let's go!

We didn't get a look at the new " SB Era " uniforms last year until the teams birthday, which is July 9th.
Since rumors have us getting two new uniforms this year, maybe we will get one before that.
